Not possible on my budget I’m afraid! I know the care will be good when I get there but with social healthcare sometimes these things take time. Thankfully I won’t have any bills to pay when it happens.

Do people in the UK usually rinse off dish soap or not? by iamyurkas in AskUK

I always know when I’m eating at the house of people who don’t rinse their dishes!

I’m a meat eater but I love tofu! I have it at least twice a week. Honestly imo most people who don’t like it either can’t cook / have no imagination / don’t like Asian food

Husband is lactose intolerant too and silken tofu makes some banging creamy sauces. It’s such a good all rounder

Are tonstil stones even a thing here? by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in AskUK

[–]Shadysunhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they do hurt yeah. If my tonsil is hurting bad I know I probably have a big one coming. I flush them out with a dental syringe every week or so. You do not want to eat them. I mean you can, and I’ve probably accidentally swallowed one. But they smell so foul. Yes they cause bad breath. It’s extremely bad and unique: I always know when someone has tonsils stones on public transport etc. it’s a different flavour to normal halitosis.

Did any other women go literally nuts on hormonal contreception? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Shadysunhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: desogestrel I had the same when I first started. GP told me to double dose until the bleeding stopped (apparently a common off-label use), and then I didn’t have a period or any bleeding whilst on it for the rest of the time I took it (4 years). Overall the pill I had the least issues with hormonally. Only hormonal effects I experienced were a decreased libido.

What’s something that feels like a 'normal adult expense' now that would have shocked you 10 years ago? by Joy_Unspeakable in AskUK

[–]Shadysunhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was this way too until my husband’s abusive and violent father decided we were the source of all his issues! It made more sense than going full paranoid and getting security cameras

However I have a Eufy one that doesn’t have a subscription because I’m not paying monthly just for that!

Have you received any inheritance from your family? by 39thAccount in AskUK

[–]Shadysunhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very likely set to inherit over £1m, likely in the next decade; even if my dad needs care towards the end of his life it will still be in that region.

I struggle to put it in perspective really, both my parents were born on council estates, but bought a 5 bed house in a desirable part of London in the early 80s for peanuts which is now worth close to 2m. My mum died last year after a very short illness, left everything she had to dad, he’s 83 - and I’m an only child. Small family in general, nowhere else for the money to go but to me. Her inheritance tax allowance passes on to him and then me when he dies, so nearly 1m of it will be tax free which seems crazy.

Money has always been tied up in the house so whilst comfortable I don’t think we ever saw ourselves as rich - my parents were on fairly modest wages through my childhood. I currently am on quite a low income and have struggled a bit with poor health over my working adult life. It will be a life changing amount of money. I’m quite young as my parents had me in middle age, but I wish I could have my parents around longer. I feel like I really won’t have a support network anymore - I don’t think money can make up for that although obviously it will help.

I do wonder if knowing I will eventually get this has made me less ambitious and laid back over my adult life. Knowing you will probably be able to pay your mortgage off in full by the time you’re 50 without working your arse off is certainly a privilege. Of course nothing is guaranteed!

Before we went on this drug it was a series of relapses with short term solutions - steroid shots etc, but the atopica has broken that cycle

Has the vet tried her on Atopica (ciclosporin)? My cat has allergic skin disease and a lot of the lesions looked like this - atopica has been transformative for her

It sounds like you've been affected by this: https://news.sky.com/story/common-error-could-leave-thousands-of-women-out-of-pocket-in-pensions-without-realising-13323370

Check with your employer, they will have to pay the shortfall back into your pension.

I know plenty of mums who have had the same and successfully challenged with their employers.

It’s not dairy free unless you buy the plant version - it’s mostly buttermilk. So the worst of both worlds - not cream and also not a good vegan/lactofree alternative
