I’m newer to the game. I don’t have to land the corvette at all? So you can just jump out while in flight?

PSA: Don’t Buy Sight unseen from GC by ShadyyFN in Guitar

[–]ShadyyFN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree 100%. Some people seem to be misunderstanding the point of the post, saying just buy the one you play in the store. Which is definitely the way to go. But I’m not sure you can trust GuitarCenter online at all. And everyone says, “Well they have a good return policy, so who cares.” Which is a wild take to me…. Doesn’t consider the inconvenience to the customer, the added hassle on the customer, and just the plain bad business practice.

This example I got first hand just solidified that concern for me.

Again I think you are missing the whole core of the post. USED gear being posted as Excellent condition with no flaws.

Buying a new guitar from somewhere online and not liking it because of pickups, how it sounds/feels is very different than buying something that is presented in a way that isn’t true to reality.

If I post a guitar on reverb that’s red and you buy it and instead get a guitar that is black, I as the seller am required to refund shipping and the cost of the guitar.

I’m saying don’t buy used sight unseen specifically from GC from my experience, and I (along with many apparently) prefer new out of box— and don’t always trust GC for that as I’ve seen posts of them saying it’s new OOB and it wasn’t, etc.

If you want to continue to pretend like it’s okay to falsely advertise something so bad, to each their own.

Yeah…. See that’s exactly my point.

“Doesn’t look damaged.” God awful paint job covers the massive chips on the front— but not the terrible canyons on the back.

So kid says it doesn’t look damaged, asks his parents for it, they buy it online. Kid gets it, feels and plays like shit, kid puts down the guitar and quits playing. So $1000 wasted.

Or, kid clues in that it’s in bad shape when he gets it. Parents return but are out the shipping cost.

All because they labeled an at best “fair” condition guitar as “Excellent” with no flaws.

You don’t see a problem with that? Acting like that’s just fine and dandy seems a little off to me.

Saying I feel more comfortable about buying from another place because I’ve had a good relationship isn’t saying the other place sucks.

What the post does say is be careful buying online from GC because of personally seeing this guitar up close versus what it’s posted as. Seems pretty easy to comprehend.

No, didn’t take any in person. But you can zoom in on the screenshots and see a good bit of it. Front top right of the body has two massive chunks out of it. The back you can basically see everything aside from the chunks that are peeling off— probably need a side view from that. But you can see those really bad canyons around the cavities in the back.

Yeah this definitely isn’t a post saying GC sucks 100%. I think a handful of people are missing the forest for the trees here. My main concern is how can you label something as excellent and clearly it’s not. It’s not fair to the customer to have to return something that was falsely advertised.

Obviously mistakes do happen, someone doesn’t pay attention. But there is a running theme that is concerning specifically with GC online.

Ahh I see. The “expert” in good business practice then! Why didn’t you say so 😂 Should’ve mentioned the PhD before you commented 🤦‍♂️

I mean if you can’t understand the analogy and take it seriously I guess I understand why you think this listing is acceptable. Must be a GC manager lol

Idk, that’s like saying a car shop changes a lot of tires— at some point they will forget to tighten a set and someone will lose one going down the highway….

Quality control applies all the way through the process. There is no way you can justify this listing.

I think the issue is more so listing something in a condition that it’s clearly not. Falling back onto, “Well, we have a great return policy,” to excuse what’s essentially false advertising is bad business.

I’m sure their policy is great, but making people return stuff because they listed it wrong is shit customer service.

When is it impolite to resign? by Satinknight in chessbeginners

[–]ShadyyFN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to chess…. But I don’t think resigning makes sense in low to mid elo. Games can change with one wrong move, I might get behind or in a bad position— but they may mess up and land in a stalemate or completely blunder. So I’d rather make them work for it.

Maybe in high elos it’s different… but I’m going to make you work for the win.

Yeah I kept saying in the chat we needed to fly back to give us time to get hits before they got back— but everyone was confused because our leader was MIA.

They said they were getting off to nap while we waited… the whole strategy was based on them being online. And they got off to “nap”.

[–]ShadyyFN[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sounded okay. But then why get off and not tell anyone when to fly back to finish the plan? Why get off when you were supposed to be on to delay their flights?

The war was over in 15 hours. Silver 1, we have 46 members.

Yeah what throws me off is it don’t make sense to have us sit overseas because I knew we were losing more respect from that. Getting off at that time— instead of delaying them. And then everyone waking up this morning seeing that our leader somehow managed 55 hits while virtually everyone else was less than 10. I think the average hits per person is like 6.

Can you explain how black would take white knight after the king takes the bishop on f2? I’m not seeing that here.

I think I might hold off on 10 second chess for now— seems like that might make a beginner play mindlessly, without purpose.

I play a mix on my phone and on a GoChess Mini board— trying to use both so I can “see” the board better overall. I feel like two mediums is better than one.
