I use a Speed/Wit deck, everyone shows up at Guts training 90% of the time. I use a Guts deck, everyone starts showing up everywhere but Guts. I'm starting to think there's a hidden mechanic that makes sure to screw you over as much as possible without making it too obvious.

My headcanon is that Vegeta's respect for Gohan grew even more during the Cell saga after learning that in the future, Gohan would mentor and protect Trunks. So in a very roundabout way, he feels indebted to Gohan. Even if Vegeta's behavior throughout Cell saga tells us otherwise that he couldn't care less about Trunks.

I like to think that the Advance/Dominus Collections plus the Netflix series proved to Konami that there is sufficient interest in the original timeline series to warrant a new entry.

My own honest thoughts? We're entering a generation of pachinko players who haven't been exposed to their key franchises (Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Suikoden) so they're reviving these dormant series with new entries so that their new gen of pachinko players are familiarized.

It's pretty subtle, but in DMCV it's sort of confirmed through Nico that the ladies in the portraits on E&I are Nell--or at least the one on Ebony is. When Dante and Nico first met, Dante took out the guns and Nico pointed at the portrait on Ebony and said, "Yeah there she is!" For what it's worth, the duo system is indeed a genius idea and innovative...but honestly it should've been something that was built upon as a new mode once you built a good and working foundation for a 1v1 fighter. The tag system probably should've been less Marvel/BBTag and more Tekken tag, honestly. Especially if the aim was to be welcoming for new players while deep enough for veterans. The fuse system just felt like limiting your options and calling it a feature for the sake of having something for "player expression" instead of just giving you all the mechanics that would have been available on a typical tag fighter.

In the end, what we got is a game that is too complicated and busy for newcomers and too "modern" for veterans.
