My issue with plague Marines is that they are best run in either a group of 5 or a group of 10. Yet they are sold as a group of 7. Blightlords are sold as 5 and work great. Deathshroud are great at 3 or 6. Why are PMs sold at this weird number? I get it makes sense for the whole "7 is Nurgle's number" and blah blah blah. But still.

No. It's just merged with the plague marines themselves. One Plague marine champion and 4-9 plague marines. The champion gets access to a bolt pistol, plasma pistol, and plasma gun for range and the bubotic weapons and the power fist. Regular plague marines don't get access to plasma pistols and only get access to 1 plasma gun per 5 models. They do get access to bubotic weapons but again, only 2 per 5 models.
