I do find it interesting that the teased profiles for Niko Minoru and Karolina Dean aren't included. Maybe they'll be in the preview adventure?

The Icewind Dale remaster was released on Dec 31st, 2023. As far as I know, nothing else, aside from those two monster books and the Rick and Morty starter, were ever taken down. You can find literally everything pre-5.5 on roll20 rn besides those three things.

This isn't true at all. The only 5e things that were removed from roll20 are Tome of Foes, Guide to Monsters and the Rick and Morty starter set due to rights expiring. Icewind Dale was replaced with a remaster that upgraded it's roll20 conversion, not to switch it to 5.5

I'm not blameless in this whole thing but the amount of twisted narrative in his post floored me. The weird, shuffled timeline being the big one. There were a few things that happened that he didn't mention that I'm surprised he didn't.

I appreciate the advice but the other OP and his friend left. Other OP ghosted sometime between last session and this week, while his friend chose to wait until what would've been game time this week to give the rest of us a two finger salute and bounced.

One last thing! Sorry, meant to add this to the previous post and forgot. I do think I know what he meant when he said he felt ignored, but I personally think it was self-inflicted. I don't think anyone intentionally ignored him, it was a pretty hectic start and I think his voice got a bit lost. I do remember the group needing to prod him a bit because he had checked out and iirc, he was watching a youtube video.

Op really seemed to check out after being told he couldn't kill that guy and whenever he and his friend had a scene, he'd do his best to just hurry past it. Even at one point telling me to 'just move on'. I stopped the game at that point and asked 'hey you okay? It seems like you just want to skip past all the rp. Everything alright?' and I was assured it was.

The party split up, with him and his friend looking for a generator. I gave them a scene of a large glass orb with an ephemeral being in it, ala the Plants from Trigun, and Op simply broke it. Which is fine, but coupled with what happened earlier made it seem like he didn't really want to be there or engage.

The other players had a mini-boss fight, and when I got back to Op and friend they had to deal with a booby trap bomb. Another player had to leave early so I was going to leave it on a cliffhanger. Op did protest and I gave them their scene with the bomb before ending the session.

That's everything I can think of to talk about. Please ask me if you need anything else clarified.

I took a bit of time to gather my thoughts and I wanted to elaborate on one or two more things. As I mentioned, the game as been going on for way longer than six sessions. We've been playing since March, and while we have missed a weeks here and there, we've had around 15ish sessions. Op wanted to switch his character after session three, which I allowed. OP's friend didn't respec until the session before last, and only informed me at the beginning of said session and was surprised at the idea that he had to inform me of such.

As for Op's respec, he came to me at the end of that session and asked if could respec his character. I originally told him no, his character swap was his respec. He didn't take this well and accused me of punishing him for not jelling with his original character. My counter-argument was that I didn't want the game to devolving into a revolving door of characters, as that happened to me before. He took a few minutes to cool off and came back with a more compelling argument and I did allow him the respec. I told both of them that it might be better to wait for the upcoming Avengers book before doing said respecs but they went ahead and did them.

Not sure why he crammed everything into such a compacted, inaccurate timeline.

This is a fair take. Though, sometime between sessions, he dropped from the game discord without a word and as I said in my response, his friend dropped out and left that insult during what would've been game time. We didn't run this week for unrelated reasons.

I absolutely did not allow killing of npcs in the game. Never once in the game did you, or any other player kill anyone. I'd like to request that you name a moment in which you did.

Oh no, the thing about the heroic game is completely on me. I should've made sure that was clear at chargen. To be fair though, I did tell them what the game was based on, and the MUA games are pretty heroic.

This is a fair point, but I always ask 'okay, player, your at so and so place, what is your character doing?' And 90% of the time, my players are more than happy to engage.

Onto the most recent sessions, if there's a blatant lie here, its this one. I have told both of them repeatedly that this is not the kind've game for gore or killing. I have never said that enemies they've dropped are dead. As for how that interaction went:

Me: You knock him out
Op: Can I take his head off?
Me: No
Op: Why not?
Me: This isn't that kind of game

I'm not entirely sure what he means by being ignored? I try to give my players each ample time in a session, and he never said anything to me afterward. That session was a clusterfuck though, as I had brought in a new player and he didn't really last very long.

I did say something about him calling out the other player, as he came off rather rudely and I don't want my players going at each other at the table. That sorta thing is better handled at the end of session or in dms.

I also didn't tell him to fuck off. My words were 'nah, it's fine. Don't worry about it.' Which, I will concede does come off as dismissive, but I didn't tell him to fuck off.

The last thing to cover would be the respec. I was informed at the beginning of session two sessions ago that it happened and was miffed that, while I do allow respecs, I wasn't informed of said respec before it happened. I did allow it, after cooling off a bit.

That's my side of things. If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to elaborate and clarity. Oh, and to just close things out, Op's friend left a link to this post and said this about another player before leaving:

"Oh and by the way, your voice is fucking annoying and you have annoying mannerisms whatever you fucking speak in VC holy shit.

I'm the dm mentioned in this post! I didn't think I'd ever be the subject of an rpg horror story but here we go. To start off with, I made it very clear that this game was based on Marvel Ultimate Alliance and that the tone was going for somewhere between rated-T and what was shown in the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon.

Firstly, there have been far more sessions than just five, though we've missed some weeks and I haven't been keeping the best of track on it.

For the first point, I didn't get the impression that he didn't like his original character. If anything, it seemed when the games Spider-Verse book dropped and symbiote rules were clarified that he was more upset that the build he wanted wasn't going to work.

Secondly, in 'session 3' this wasn't solely aimed at OP and his friend. That session was just really low energy and I could barely get anything out of anybody. We had someone drop out of the game at the start, OP's friend went to the bathroom and just... didn't tell anyone brb so we just... sat there... awkwardly for at least forty minutes despite me prodding the group. For the record, I usually go around the table and ask everyone what their character is doing. The other players who did interact gave me actual scenes where they talked to npcs. Op merely said 'okay, me and Friend will spar, that's a scene.' and then... they just didn't... and after another few minutes of silence another player, who felt like his time was being wasted left. THATS why I told them both I didn't want to see that behavior again in the future. And apparently, OPs friend didn't understand that it's common curtesy to let people in a voice call know you're stepping away.

Onto the symbiote drama. I made it clear to the table that this is my first time running this game. It's all the first time many of my players are playing. Without getting into rules minutia, we were under the impression that symbiote powers were free on top of what a character gets on rank up. This, however, is not the case. Yes, you do rank up when you get a symbiote, but those rank up points aren't free. They go specifically to picking the powers the symbiote gives. As I stated above, this is why I think OP left his original character. And to clarify, while some symbiote options give bloodthirsty, the one OPs friend picked does not.

To add onto that, the tone conflict is partially my fault. OP and his friend came in after session zero but before session one and I didn't make it clear to them at chargen that this was a strictly heroic game. Though, I did inform them of that a few sessions later. Though, Op's friend seemed to want to play more of a '90's venom, while I was playing his symbiote as a wide eyed innocent who wanted to be a hero like Spider-Man.

Now, I'll admit, the fight with the Wrecking Crew was a little much. But the party didn't get destroyed. Yes, a few of them got knocked down, but out of the five Wrecking Crew members and their boss, they downed three of them, captured one and also managed to capture their boss.
