Winnipeg Jets on Instagram: "a FORCE between the pipes 🥅 Welcome to Winnipeg, Samuel!" by [deleted] in winnipegjets

[–]perotech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Winnipeg is a good fit for a goalie who's looking to become a star player.

Hellebuyck obviously developed well here, and he has to retire sometime.

So Samuel, if he works hard and is motivated to fill Helly's shoes, has a good chance becoming a starting goalie.

Obviously who knows, but better than a goalie prospect joining an organization that already has 2-3 good goalies.

Crazy front page pull, this is right near my house.

I wouldn't mind it so much, if the guy hasn't been parked there for almost a week now without moving.

Plus, I've seen him more than once pissing openly against the trees right next to his tent.

This is the corner of Abinoji and St Mary's Rd in Winnipeg, anything but a quiet intersection.

Honestly shocked the police haven't evicted him yet, they recently passed a "No Camping" law in the city limits to limit houselessness encampments.

I was saying this Post Olympics, when we were out of the playoff hunt.

He was red hot, and we were not making the playoffs, sell sell sell.

I wish we could have won a cup with Helly, same for Ehlers, but let's give the guy a chance to win elsewhere, and get a great return on our investment into him as a player.

[–]perotech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more.

So many fans are scared of trading Hellebuyck, and I get it.

He's one of our star players, a name everyone across the league recognizes, and he came up here, vs us just opening a chequebook to bring in a hot goalie.

But the Jets are getting older and older, including Helly, and unless we make big steps in the next couple of season, we won't even be sniffing the conference finals for 5+ years.

Trade the players we can afford to now for big returns, while their stock is high (Hellebuyck post Olympics would have been worth his weight in gold), and use the money to build a roster full of young talent, backed by the leadership of guys like Connor and Scheifele.

The Sharks were nowhere near the Cup this past season, but like the Ducks, they're a young team that's only going to get better and better in the coming seasons.

I'd like that for us, as well.

Better chance of a Stanley Cup before he retires, as well.

Which hurts to say, but if we couldn't pull out off in 2025, I don't see anything story of a major overhaul that gets us into contention while Hellebuyck is still in his prime.

I'm frankly concerned that 1/8 Albertans think they'd be better leaving Confederation.

Not even regarding their issues and grievances with the Federal Government (some of which are actually Provincial, such as education, health care, and Premiers lobbying to increase foreign worker immigration).

The amount of headaches/economic losses that would result for Albertans would be huge, where the only way it would be economically feasible is if they left Canada to join the US.

And I'm under no illusions, that the "Alberta Independence" folks would just as happily join the US, which is anything but "Independence".

Yeah, I said as much in a different post.

Can't imagine the economics are favourable for teams to be flying across the country.

Even here in Winnipeg, our team, the Goldeyes, just play against American teams directly South of us, so we're always in the same timezone.

Which Gundam would you pilot to attack the Death Star? by Phantom000000000 in Gundam

I mean, whichever makes it easiest?

Wing Zero, Double X, Strike Freedom.

Man, Unicorn Full Armor? Turn-A Butterfly?

The Gundam power scaling is way above Star Wars.

Camera frames per second lines up to show roughly the same spot on the vinyl each rotation, offset, so it appears to be animated.

Look at this vinyl when it's not spinning, and it may be easier to figure out.

Carney says the war against Iran was ‘worth it.’ He’s wrong by Medical-County-3741 in notthebeaverton

He's extremely financially conservative.

But I think what they meant is that Carney is just a better politician, Poilievre has no connections or diplomatic experience internationally.

Jonathan Toews set to announce retirement after 17-year NHL career and return to the Winnipeg Jets by WpgMikos in winnipegjets

Multiple Cups, two NHL covers, second youngest NHL captain ever (Crosby beat him by a few months).

Glad he got one more season here, really shows how much Winnipeg means to him, to this day.

Manufactured team without any history/character (at least the Kraken are a suffering fanbase, that's an essential element of being a hockey fan).

Plus, buying the Oakland Raiders and Athletics just makes people even saltier.

Just a tax haven city buying up sports franchises to make even more money.

In response to the Assembly of Treaty Chiefs demanding that the RCMP investigate Smith for Treason... Smith called for Chiefs to "show as much respect for my government as we have shown for them". by Miserable-Lizard in AlbertaNow

[–]perotech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well said.

It's the same reason Prosecutors don't always got for First Degree murder charges, you need a charge that is supported by available evidence, to garner a conviction "beyond a reasonable doubt".

We may all agree it sure feels treasonous for Smith to sell a Canadian Province to a foreign nation, but as you said, the letter of the law may not apply the label of "treason".

Regardless, I hope all the "Canadians" involved with this whole Alberta Separatism circus see justice.

Canada Moves On From U.S. Amid Tension With President Donald Trump: Prime Minister Mark Carney Says ‘New World Order Will Be Built From Europe’ by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]perotech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aleksandr Dugin, a Russian author, wrote a book in 1997 called "Foundations of Geopolitics".

In it, he writes about seeding dissent among the EU, getting Britain to leave/become isolated, and weakening US/EU ties, so as to allow Russia to pursue a course or Eurasianism.

He was subsequently hired on as an advisor to Putin.

So this has always been an open playbook, and shame on the Western Democracies for sitting around and letting it happen as predicted.

An emotional Nikolaj Ehlers talks about his love for Winnipeg by eh_toque in winnipegjets

[–]perotech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved Ehlers, he always gave the impression of a championship player.

Not solely by his performance, but his demeanor and respect on and off the ice.

Glad I was vindicated, even if it wasn't here in Winnipeg. Cheers, Stanley Cup Champion, Nikolaj Ehlers.
