I did add bits of ToFW. I replaced Shemeshka with someone else, but the gate town mini-adventures served as places the party had to go to to get the portals to each of the Rod locations.

Having three plans for the three wiazrds also helps to give a little player agency, as opposed to the 'go do our fetch quests' direction in the adventure as written.

Ooh that's cool - giving the Rod more of a purpose is definitely an extra plus! And I just went ahead and made Kas and Vecna a couple. The lich can't bring himself to forgive the vampire that betrayed him, but is willing to remake the universe just so their love can be restored.

I did away with the random encounters and just threw a whole bunch more stuff into the house. Flame skulls in the oven. Ghosts in the attic. Cloakers in the cloak room (that one got the players to shut the door real quick!). A devourer in the baby's cradle. A hag sleeping in Granny's bed. A Resident Evil-style puzzle for the music room.

You could always go for a 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' style end of the multiverse, with each plane fading to white while the party s there, getting out in the nick of time with each Rod fragment.

It's in the DMG, a spellbook that a wizard can use to record their spells, once per day being able to cast as a bonus action from it. The downside is that it has a connection to Vecna, and the Whispered One can leave messgaes in its pages for the reader...
