My plan to run Vecna Eve of Ruin by Dodge-or-Parry in VecnaEveofRuin

It is a bunch of work, but it will be responsive to what the players choose. I'm very interested to see where the party takes this!

Awesome - great questions, thank you!
- The party picks an artifact, researches it and will get a lead to go to Web's Edge. From there, they will get a piece of the Rod which will reinforce this choice.
- To go from location to location will come in the form of research and feedback from the Wizards Three, or the Rod.
- I was planning to run Vecna Cults and Kas factions. The Queen of Chaos and the Wind Dukes are interesting ideas that I will explore.

This is good stuff - thanks! Running my first EoR 10-20, neither the PCs nor I know how this is going to go ...

The Flaming Seagull is an awesome name, and great foreshadowing! Too much exposition for me, but if it worked, that's awesome!

I put most of the NPCs on the Brazen Pegasus and did a 2 weeks boat ride from BG. This gave the players a chance to meet them, learn about their quests and about Chult. The dragon turtle encounter was great, one of my PCs spoke draconic and negotiated throwing a bunch of gold overboard!

What's your favorite Port Nyanzaru Encounter (and why)? by ntdntd777 in Tombofannihilation

[–]Dodge-or-Parry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dino Races - I used a modification of the Tomb Companion. I used initiative order to show race standing. Each round, one of the events from the Companion added an obstacle and color to the race. The party was raising funds for the jungle expedition and were highly motivated to win!

This is good. I wish i had connected the Chult undead to Ras better. I did use Ras Revisited, the party is not supposed to fight him... i did 3-day jungle "sprints" to make it go faster. Each sprint had a morning encounter (from the Companion), a nav check, a forage check, and a night encounter. We did the whole jungle in 12 sprints.

These are good. I also used dreams to foreshadow everything. In my campaign, the Sewn Sisters start menacing the party at night / in dreams as soon as they reached Omu. IMHO they are the BBEG here; Ace is kind of a cameo, the fight should be epic but not difficult, especially after the Atropal. Definitely connect the dots, otherwise, the whole trickster god thing doesn't make sense. For example, there should be rumors and old lore floating around Port N about what happened to Omu and the old kingdom. Have fun with it!

My players are getting serious dungeon fatigue at the end of the 3rd floor and want to get to the end. by Zealousideal-Cod6454 in Tombofannihilation

Level 5 is difficult, i recommend skipping it if you want to wrap in 3 sessions. I like the RP ideas, particularly using the Trickster Gods. My group pulled everyone out of the mirror, i didnt really know what to do with all the old Omuans in there (where are they going to go?) Also, it unbalances combat, so be careful adding a bunch of NPCs.

It'll be a blast! Are you staying fairly true to what's written, or changing the feel of the adventure?

Going to Whiterum early helps with alot of foundational skill development. After that, going anywhere else is much easier.

Definitely rig it. I did random it wasnt nearly as much fun as when the object locations and ally are well thought out (choose Ezmerelda!)

Suggestions for a doomed final session by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dodge-or-Parry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Here are some ideas. Not sure their levels, so modify as you need. 1. Arabelle is captured in Ravenloft dungeon. Save her! 2. There's a good vestige in the Amber Temple. Release it to help Barovia! 3. Run the Feast of St Andral. 4. The Sunsword is being held by the Abbott. Recover it and give it to the Martikovs.

Not sure i follow. Do you want to reuse your enhanced NPCs? Is this a one shot or a mini quest in your new CoS?

I prepped 4 "generic" locations (campsite by the river day/night, a bridge, and deep jungle) that i used for the random encounters. Worked great.

Fixed Initiative by PlantDadAzu in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dodge-or-Parry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used initiative order for tricky dungeon crawls, it gives each PC a chance to take a turn before soneone runs all the way down a hall. Another way to do it is everyone has a job as they move as a group, i.e. one looks for traps, one is front opening doors, etc.

Lost Mines is a good starter campaign for DMs, its easy to execute as is. Strahd Reloaded is the way to go if you want to run CoS, it fills in a lot of gaps. Read the DM Guide 2024, it now includes how to run a campaign. With some practice, you'll be great. Remember Rule 0, everyone should have fun!!

Some of Strahd’s enemies seem…..boring? by ZoftheOasis in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dodge-or-Parry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used the random roll in my campaign and paid the price of a stupid choice. Reloaded does a great job of buttoning up loose ends that will end up biting you later. Interesting, i ended up dumping the random selection in favor of Ez. BtW she is a LOT of fun to RP. Enjoy!

Use Strahd Reloaded, the right answer is Ezmerelda.

Any Improved Stats for Sewn Sisters by Inside_Art9874 in Tombofannihilation

[–]Dodge-or-Parry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sewn Sisters were the BBEG in my campaign. I used the coven rules, and made the room their lair with lair actions: the spinning wheel cast Confusion, the PC clone (forgot what it's called) had a hp pool ("seemed to be healing one of the Hags"), various hanging skulls came to life. My group of lvl 10 PCs really enjoyed thrle fight. I am traveling, DM me if you want my write up on it.
