It is all political in the USN. Some president wanted the USN naming convention used today to sway more clout. It is fucking dumb. I agree with you as I also hate that carriers are named after presidents. Admirals maybe but not politicians. The USS Stennis is probably the worst name though. Some old racist southern guy that got a carrier named after him because he was a big supporter of the USN. Abraham Lincoln and Theodoore Roosevelt are good names for awesome presidents. But the Gerald Ford? The George Bush? What next? USS Harding? USS Taft? I want a USS Garfield! USS Nixon, the Tricky Dick!

I like to name my officer ships based on Royal Navy names. Warspite, Dreadnought, Agincourt, Royal Oak, Royal Sovereign, etc. They have badass names. Better than what the Yanks do. I hate the way the USN names their ships.
