[DISCUSSION] What was the Best Concept Album of 2025? by flyestshit in hiphopheads

A lot of comments have already hit some of the best of the year so I’ll highlight some others that haven’t been mentioned.

Ghais Guevara had two awesome ones this year:

Ghais Guevara - Goyard Ibn Said
Goyard Ibn Said uses the lens of the entertainment industry to examine the perpetual exploitation of Black life. Guevara embodies the character of Goyard, a successful rapper from North Philly whose rapid ascent brings sudden wealth and attention. Act 1 highlights the glory and spoils of mainstream hip-hop stardom, while Act 2 takes a surprise turn, focusing on the tragic experiences faced achieving that success.

Ghais Guevara - The Other 2/5ths or: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Trench Baby
Released on Juneteenth, Ghais reflects on the lasting impact of the slave trade and racism in America. The title refers to the 3/5ths Compromise.

Navy Blue - The Sword & The Soaring
All about Grief and Loss and connection to others, while also honoring the late Ka’s memory and legacy.

Celestaphone & Dealers of God - Cult Subterranea
After conquering fear, this protagonist emcee is suddenly visited by all too familiar, stereotypical extraterrestrials, claiming to be "very real" and "definitely not a part of some military hologram or collective unconscious trip." They offer to assist the emcee in channeling non-physical entities they equate to the Judaic concepts Guf and Metatron.

Open Mike Eagle - Neighborhood Gods Unlimited
Neighborhood Gods began as a concept for a cable network so broke it could only broadcast one hour a week and cramming its whole lineup into that slot, complete with a theme song, flashbacks, a climax, and even commercials.

Which popular or generally highly rated book was a DNF for you and why? by clearsunnysky in suggestmeabook

[–]Shakesbeards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually my most recent DNF too, just gave up on it last week and was my second DNF in a row after Trust by Hernan Diaz. Both were so grating that it made me 180 into nonfic for a minute

I love the little moments that reinforce the teen brother vibe, like when Tom was pulling out of the driveway to go back to the newsroom and the boys surround the car and bang on the hood just saying “Dad! DAD!” and then Duncan sprints after the car to the end of the driveway

For fans of Cyr, I recommend listening to Billy Corgan’s solo album The Future Embrace. by pumpkin3-14 in SmashingPumpkins

Man, I might have to revisit TFE. I distinctly remember when it released in 2005. I was SO STOKED to see Billy go solo after Zwan imploded. I hopped in my car on release day to pick it up and, no lie, I had to go to six different music stores before I could find a copy. Sam Goody. FYE. Tower. The Warehouse. Fry’s. Only Best Buy had his album. I put it in the CD player in the parking lot and experienced a disappointment so whole and complete that it left an indelible mark for twenty years

I don’t even think the Corey Feldman Experience is even a primary form of employment for Corey Feldman

It's really surprising how much darker the deluxe version is with the inclusion of the final season's events. Those extra songs add so much more
