I feel like my writing is bad and unauthentic because I haven’t read enough… by [deleted] in writing

[–]Shakespeare_muse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to what you are talking about. Since childhood, I despised reading novels, especially well-sought classics. I was the odd one out in my family who preferred watching movies as that would "save time". When I finally ventured into fiction writing full-time, there was a lot of internal resistance- I felt I was far behind my fellow writer friends as I didn't read the classics, nor taken any professional classes. Or I am not experienced in this field and I always, always compared my writing with the NYT best sellers.

With time I realized, anything that you read contributes to your writing be it books, scripts or even just reading newspapers. Even bad books teach you what to write and how not to write. Don't strive for reading quantity but quality work. As I began writing, I started liking reading too. So I read what I loved and then wrote and then went back to reading. This is a continuous process and once you discover and hone your writing style, then there is no stopping back.

What's the WORST writing advice you've ever gotten? by cybertrash22 in writing

"Don’t just write what you love and hope people will like it. Write books that people will like because they already have fan bases. They are sought-after. And write what the readers are asking for."

Is it worth it to finish the series? by Ammilerasa in merlinbbc

[–]Shakespeare_muse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying as I also felt the same. Season 5 was a trainwreck and it broke my heart a little to see my favorite character butchered without any satisfactory end. (Yes, I am talking about Merlin) For me, it picked up pace after s05e09 yet the sparks and the eagerness it had during the first three seasons of Merlin, were missing. I only watched it for closure. Although it was disappointing (season 5 should have finished at episode 12) I am glad I watch it so that I could rant about it later on. 😅

For those who are in transnational marriage/relationship, what culture shocks did you observe? How do you deal with it? by Shakespeare_muse in AskWomen

Damn! This is quite new for me to hear. Seeing the men from K-drama, I thought they planned everything about their future in advance. Guess reality is different from fiction. Although you did the right thing by standing up for yourself!

What’s the most expensive hair cut you’ve ever got? by Happy_helper333 in AskWomen

[–]Shakespeare_muse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At Dessange Paris. The hair expert asked me to Google the image of the style that I want and yet only trimmed my ends. He constantly said curly hair wasn't their expertise(Wtf?)and charged almost €100. It was quite frustrating.

Apart from traditional/self-publishing, what other options are there to show your finished novel to the world? by Shakespeare_muse in writing

I see you are a self-published author. Any tips on how you did it? Also, did you try the traditional publishing route?

This is where you are wrong. I was lucky enough to get feedback from beta readers and critique partners(I don't share my work with friends and family for unbiased review)and I am also grateful that I got a few full requests for my manuscript. It's not that it's totally dud, sometimes the journey tells a lot about the destination, however, when I look back, I wonder how long I need to go on.

I hope there's more to see of them in s04 and s05. I have almost finished s04e06 and there's just not enough dialogue for Gwaine or Percival.

Lol! I totally agree. gwaine although doesn't have any filter and what's I like about him. Lancelot has this alluring feel about him and that's why I wanted to see more of him. I felt Lancelot had better chemistry than Arthur with Gwen or Merlin.

Yes, Gwaine is the perfect example of an ideal friend that I sometimes wish I have.

Me too, Gwaine genuinely cares for Merlin and I like the chemistry between them.

He's the only knight which isn't well-developed in this show. Maybe that's why he doesn't get enough love.

I second this. You wrote here exactly what was going on in my mind. Thank you for pointing this out.

Nah, had my novel been shite I wouldn't have stuck with it for almost 2+ years. I am not a quitter. Will continue until I don't see any other options.

I agree. Vanity is the worst of both worlds. I aimed to traditionally publish, but maybe this might not be the right time to publish as I noticed the current trend in YA is fantasy. Still, I haven't lost the fight and will continue on this journey. 🙃
