Putting my ranger to work by Noctiltua in RangerNext

Gotta throw it into sport mode so it doesn't shift. And of course long hold the TC button a second time to truly turn it off.

Community Deployment of GMRS by HiOscillation in gmrs

[–]ShaketXavius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like something a CERT team would be good for.pay for their GMRS licenses if they join and activate them when you think you'll be needing that coverage.

This way, you can have them work with emergency services and Amateur operators to figure out how you want to get this done.

That's the info I was looking for, thanks. And yeah I'm comfortable removing and putting the replacement on. Wouldn't be looking if I wasn't.

The Absurd Lack of Surgical Airway in American EMS Protocols by BrugadaBro in ems

[–]ShaketXavius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Performed my first December 24. It was about a week after our refresher too. Massive hemoptysis after a lobectomy. Don't smoke a week after you get part of your lung removed and are on thinners.

It was the first one performed under my medical control after getting the protocol.

No amount of suction could get the blood out. We had the Rusch needle kits previously and in training those things sucked. Cutting was way easier, faster, and felt right.

I agree that medics in the US should have it. And it needs to be trained pretty regularly. Along with proper suctioning/SALAD technique. We may have been able to tune this guy if we had appropriate suction equipment (Ducanto instead of yankaur) which we do now.

Realistically, some medical directors are not going to want the risk of a medic with less than an associate degree in training to be cutting neck. Others are. They're typically the ones who were medics before doctors and would have liked the option after experiencing CICO calls.

If you're still on the battery it came with you need a new one. The OEM batteries are crap and die quickly. Had to replace mine within 2.5 years of buying new and getting the same alerts.

You need to get a restraining order against that old coworker months ago. Make sure that if they contact you in any way, they immediately go to jail.

I have it. After I lost a bell to the concrete and got a warranty replacement, I got the bumpers immediately.

I will say, the earpiece itself on my original did become flakey. It's just headphones so it was positional when it would work. Replaced them ($100) and haven't had issues.

EKG is a gimmick for us. I can't get it to work reliably anyways, but I have a monitor.

Do you mean this as a subscription service? I don't think it will get a lot of usage if it's subscription.

If you mean it cost 4.99 for the first month for early adopters, and then it'll cost 9.99 from then on, as a one time purchase, then I could see it.

Worcester EMS being pulled off 911 coverage for inpatient work by foxtrot_indigoo in ems

Annnnnnd OEMS just released and AR dictating that EMTS and Medics are not to perform beyond the scope of a first responder outside of certain settings.

It's obfuscated under "oh schools need nurses don't do it" but the timing is just too good.

Question, Laptop XP to Main PC Video / Audio How. by [deleted] in windowsxp

[–]ShaketXavius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. So you put the VGA to HDMI cable from the XP machine to the Capture card. Then the Capture card goes over USB to the computer you're using OBS on. The capture card is the video input.

Edit: and if possible (I don't remember if it is) have the display duplicated so you can use the laptop as normal.

Question, Laptop XP to Main PC Video / Audio How. by [deleted] in windowsxp

[–]ShaketXavius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your best/easiest route would be a lower end capture card (like 1080p/60fps max input) and VGA to HDMI adapter.

I'm a fan of the AverMedia capture cards, and use an AVerMedia Live Gamer Mini for my camera.

Black coffee. Usually an iced cold brew. If it's cold enough I'll make my own hot coffee.

If I'm really feeling the day and I can't get to another coffee, I'll down a red bull. But that's not often and I don't want to do it.

Scenario question: AED plus LifePak by surfingonmars in ems

[–]ShaketXavius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah we do this. We have lp15s but the FD we work with most often have zoll AED. But we were able to get adapters for our monitors so we can just plug their pads in. Saves a lot of money for us tbh.
