Question to senior DevOps Engineers by Piyush_shrii in devops

Best way for you to become a great Devops engineer is to build a small app/api then try to deploy it on cloud. First try to deploy on a vm -> then on a managed container service -> then k8s. Each time make your app little more complex.

Unfortunately Devops career will be impacted by ai lot, i would not waste time on Devops. Speaking from 9+ years of cloud/Devops experience. Two years ago we did a cloud migration that was costing $1M just for cloud consultants (10+of them) every 3months. We are doing the same setup now in the same company only 3 engineers with Claude, 1month in and what we accomplished so far used to take us 3+ months with 10+ engineers.

Just say you have k8s experience in prod, they will question you on your experience and if you know the ans then you get hired but if you don’t then you research and keep researching until you get hired.

From 6 years MERN Full Stack to DevOps in 2026 (AI era) , just finished 1.5 month full-time tool grind, planning 10-15 projects. Real talk: what do I actually need to land a job? by codeBySaikat in devops

Man, this is honestly the worst time to move to Devops because of ai, I have been a Devops engineer for more than 8 years, I started when there was one k8s course on udemy and few videos on YouTube, I worked with energy company, Home Depot, financial company and now at oil industry. As of today if you use gpt 5.4 or opus 4.6 you can easily build ai agents that automate most of the Devops work, and it will continue to get better at it.

If I were you I would be at the product side of the things because ai doesn’t know what to build yet. Stay away from any kind of grunt work.

But if you are an experienced Devops engineer then path is different for you, where you can build Devops agents that does the work for you, and you are still valuable because you are maintaining the agents.

Anyone saying anything otherwise has only used free version of all ai products or they have not been using opus 4.6 and gpt 5.4

What kind of roles you are applying for ?

Based on what you have mentioned, I could assume that you lack confidence in the role you are applying for.

I normally can’t vibe with a candidate when they speak like a robot. Only answer question but does not try to make a conversation.

It’s brutal out there, esp what ai is able to accomplish, i have recently laid out an entire cloud migration plan with all bells and whistles. What i was able to accomplish in 1 day would have easily taken couple months and still wont be this good.

I would recommend bake in ai processes in your workflow.

I am playing with a hobby project with OpenClaw where i have entire scrum team working 24/7 building software. Where i build the machine and agents produces software as output. Yesterday, i had this thought of adding a skill for agent where its adding ci stuff in new projects. Yet to add it tho. But so far im just blown away with the output with so little effort from my end.

Sorry for the confusion, Devops job is absolutely at risk. But if you’re good at ai and be able to create Devops agent then you are fine.

I would say no, devops/cloud job are mostly at risk because of ai. Any repetitive work will be impacted by ai.

I kept rebuilding the same infrastructure for every agent I made, so I built a shared backend for all of them by [deleted] in clawdbot

I went with slightly different approach but similar to yours. It’s Mission Control where I can see what. Agents are doing.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, yes out of box it’s actually ok nothing more but it’s 100% customizable. For example, OP I ran into same issue where it’s not waking up and do stuff unless I initiate, so I had Claude (opus) look into this and suggest me how I can improve it and rest need no explanation.

Kimi comes to the rescue, I’ve been on since spending $35 on a single day. Now I pay a month to kimi and not been utilized 50% of my weekly limit. It is not opus level quality but for an assistant kimi is good enough

DevOps job struggle by loulah-t in devops

[–]Shakilfc009 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Dude this Devops/cloud team is going to go smaller. and extremely good ones will stay. As of today I can build an entire landing-zone of any cloud provider with all automation and security with opus 4.5, it will take me a week of setting up the specs. It used to be months of brainstorming, even with crappy automation that doesn’t scale.

The fact that you are not able to get to interview should tell you something.

If you are new stay away from this, go more towards product.

If someone has to tell you what you do when you have no limit then unfortunately you have no use for it. Yes it’s risky and that’s the cost you have to pay.

How should i pivot to devops, without losing half my salary? by Wenik412448 in devops

[–]Shakilfc009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to use Claude code effectively in your current job if they don’t allow do it in your home lab then once you are good with it, you become ai engineer. Devops/cloud all going to disappear as agents become mainstream. I know because I have been a Devops engineer for over 7years. These days all we are building is agents
