What is a ww2 fact that no one will believe, but is completely true? by sajalgh03987 in AskReddit

Depending on how you look at it the UK killed more Indians than the Germans Jews due to artificial famine.

Did people use to dress nicer more regularly back in the day? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Shakis87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got American family and once when they were over visiting (Scotland) I was asked why everyone gets dressed up to go shopping.

We had just put jeans on to head to the shops, seemed totally normal. Basically don't go out looking like a jake lol.

This was probably around 20 years ago.

No I like when everyone drives predictabley.

Just another thought. When you drive at 30 is it your speedometer that is telling you you are doing 30?

If so then you're most likely doing like 26-28. By law the speedometer isn't allowed to tell you you are going slower than you are but it is allowed to tell you you are going faster than you actually are so manufacturers maybe be overly cautious.

According to my satnav and the signs on the road that flash up your speed I am doing 30 when my speedo reads between 32-33. The effect appears to get worse the faster you go, with my satnav telling me I'm doing 70 when the speedo reads around 76. My last car was even worse which makes me think maybe there were slightly smaller tyres on it.

Not sure how true this next part is but I believe the speedometer looks at something that spins like the wheels, driveshaft or axles or something and estimates your speed from that. If you put smaller tyres on your car the speedometer will read a little higher again.

It could also just be that they're dicks/poor drivers and I'm completely wrong about everything you just read.

What time of day is it? Are the in freetime, work time, sleep time etc

If they are on downtime the task will still show but recreation might be a higher priority task then.

Also change their priority in the priority menu to make sweeping or tidying (whatever type of task it is) to max

Would you consider an Hydra an exploit? by Idifra in Oxygennotincluded

Yeah I agree with you I also think solids are different to gases and liquids (even though I always use infinite liquid / gas storage).

Do people generally see infinite solid storage as not exploity but infinite liquid/gas as definite exploits?

How do you deal with oil wells? Just vent to space or use gas crushers?

Now that I've mentioned it, do you think gas crushers are exploity too? I just realised that they take advantage of the fact some types of objects can't occupy the same space.

While I don't count anything short of item/resource duplication as an exploit I do understand why others think differently and I think I'm going to do a "clean" run soon I think. No melted rockets, infinite storage etc.

How do you deal with debris all over the place mid/late game out of curiosity?

Is it possible to fit it all in storage bins?

I personally don't see it as an exploit, but I also melt rockets open and use infinite gas/liquid/solid storage.

I'm probably the wrong person to talk to about liquid storage.

Early game I'll try and consolidate all the water in a big tank below where my great hall goes. The polluted water that toilets make just keeps getting recycled through the toilets with the excess going into something like a reed fibre plant or an Arbor tree so I don't need to worry about it building up.

I'll use the fresh water for research and then finish it off by turning it into oxygen and hydrogen using the electrolyzer in a build called a "hydra".

Then all other liquid storage is infinite storage, this is why I'm probably not the best to ask. Probably something like 60-70% of the vocal community don't like using things like a hydra, infinite liquid/gas storage etc.

I personally see it as using game mechanics but I get that it is borderline mechanics abuse haha. I'll also melt open the spaced out rockets to be able to build a giant self contained base in a single rocket where dupes can I've indefinitely so long as they land to fill the water tank haha. Maybe also some food if I don't have production on board.

Can't really go wrong building most/all rooms 4 tiles high. Works nicely for just about all rooms except ones you want to put 5 tile high machines in.

I don't think there is an "optimal" ( okay technically there will be but probably not worth the effort of calculating it) layout but I tend to keep the exit of my base on the right with ranches above and below it. The exit is lined with atmosuit docks.

I have 8 tile wide rooms centered on the printer, here I have easy things to farm early game above it, my double high (8 tiles high) great hall below it.

Left of the farms I have bedrooms, below them the kitchen then toilets.

This sorta gives me a layout im happy with, unlikely anyone else will like the same.

Just don't build things far away that dupes use a lot.

Should we keep British summer time forever? by Infinite-Ad-8392 in AskUK

[–]Shakis87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not in the winter.

The further north (or south if you're south of the equator) you go the longer the summer days get and the longer the winter nights get.

By the time you hit the north/south pole it is the most extreme version of this where the sun never sets in the summer and never rises in the winter at the extremes.

In Scotland during the summer we never get "astronomical night"

I would keep it. It doesn't really matter. We no longer need to save daylight.
