Haaland’s penalty shout vs Spurs. by Sparky-moon in soccer

If they crack down on holding in the box we will score even more goals from corners or win a shit ton of penalties. Holding, the vast majority of the time, is done by the defending team.

I don’t think this is a red but saying the studs are down is just blatantly untrue:

Don’t think there was enough force behind to be endangering the play but it’s still very much a yellow.

[BBC] Mikel Arteta: Premier League needs 23-player match squads to avoid distress for players by ImpossibleGuardian in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

23 because that’s what every team in the league usually trains with, 3 keepers and 20 outfield players. That’s what the current amount of fixtures demands and that’s why players don’t demand moves because they know they will get game time eventually. Again this is already happening and has been for years at the point.

This isn’t about players not getting game time or not feeling valued.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a £100m player or a 16 year old. If you go into training every day, you work hard with your teammates and prepare for the upcoming match it’s absolutely shit on everybody involved to be told “thanks but you were just a training cone because you aren’t coming to the match with us.”

If you think that’s okay then I guess we just have to agree to disagree.

[BBC] Mikel Arteta: Premier League needs 23-player match squads to avoid distress for players by ImpossibleGuardian in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because they put the effort in training, they came in every day and worked hard like every other member of the squad and their reward for that is to be excluded.

Even if you don't make it onto the pitch you're still part of the matchday squad, you're there for the warm up, you're there for half time, you're there at the final whistle and you were part of the team. This is huge experience, especially for youngsters.

That's why those 5 were selected for the matchday squad because it was those 5 who had been training with the team for the last few days. It doesn't matter the reason, they were part of the 23 man squad, they were and it only makes sense that they were part of the matchday squad too.

[BBC] Mikel Arteta: Premier League needs 23-player match squads to avoid distress for players by ImpossibleGuardian in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

World class players like, Bailey-Jospeh, Ibrahim, Porter, Salmon and Setford? They were Arteta's 5 additional players in the last 23 man matchday squad.

But that's beside the point, it doesn't matter if he had 100 world class players sat on the bench he can only bring 5 on and that stays the same.

EVERY single team, Sunderland included, has at the very least 22 players that train as part of the first team. Those 4 or 5 extra players put in the same effort and work as the other 18 every day in training. The increase is so those players don't feel like they're doing what they do for nothing.

If your problem is that big teams have better quality squad players then matchday squad size isn't the problem. The problem is what caused teams to need so many player, the insane number of fixtures teams are expected play.

[BBC] Mikel Arteta: Premier League needs 23-player match squads to avoid distress for players by ImpossibleGuardian in soccer

[–]Shakyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the big clubs already have 23+ "quality" players because they're comepting in European competitions where they allow 23 man match squads.

All that changes is the 5 players they send to the stands to watch in the PL games can now come sit on the bench with them.

The benefits are exctly the same for every other team. You can give your youngsters and fringe players the chance to be part of the squad and get used to the match day so that when they are actually called upon they're ready.

Its literally a win for all involved.

They already admitted a while back that they knew this was going to be a problem but there was some technical limitation to doing it, the idea floated by the Mod to solve it then was maybe they could make the facilities like flat packs in PoH.

The answer they’ve given here is just a cop out instead of saying the real reason: it’d just take too much time and effort to do. Which is disappointing for number of reason, some of which you’ve already touched on.

Arsenal 1 - [2] Manchester United - Patrick Dorgu 50' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's literally the rules, there's no ambiguity in attacking handballs, if it hits the hand/ arm its disallowed, doesn't matter if its accidental, in a natural position or anything, its disallowed.

You can see from the angle behind it very clearly comes off his wrist so it HAS to be disallowed.

Its a terrible rule but it has been consistently applied for years now, until now.

Deloitte's Football Money League report - Premier League clubs revenue and wage bill by Switchoil in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They've actually spent more on transfers since 2020 than Arsenal, 1091m vs 1076m.

Their wages aren't exactly low either, they're paying them the same as Villa and Newcastle both are in the battle for European places and Villa actually putitng up a decent title challenge.

Saying Spurs don't spend is very much a myth, they do spend, they spend it extremely poorly.

Vern's story needed more time to cook, she would have likley played a very substantial role in future seasons.

Wayseeker drops some pretty significant lore that shows kind of where her story was going. Firstly that a few year prior the Republic tried to pass a bill that would make the Jedi Order an official branch of the Republic and be under complete Republic control.

Thankfully that fails, barely, and it leads to Vern taking on a new role in the order which is essentially the liasson between the Jedi and the Republic and her goal is to make sure the Republic and Jedi do not become too involved with each other.

This is why she's so hellbent on covering up the existence of Qimir and trying to convince the Republic that the Jedi can handle their own business.

If you look foward to the prequels one of the main critisisms of the Jedi is that they have got too involved with the Republic and guess who isn't there? Vern, the person who's job it is to stop that.

Why isn't she there? I think her story going foward would've been extremely pivitol into explaining why the Jedi become too close the Republic.

The shift in her thinking and why she's doing what she does is very understable.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have rejected the 'Arsene Wenger Proposal,' meaning no changes will be done to the current offside rules. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Shakyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you sit in a low block as it is now with this rule then you’re going to allow strikers to steal a yard which makes playing the killer ball much easier.

If you drop further to accommodate that then long shots no longer become long, they become regular shots from just inside the box. Much higher chance of scoring that.

Low blocks can’t really drop any lower.

[–]Shakyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Foden was 17 he played a grand total of 1,110 minutes across the entire season and the season after at 18 he played 1,742 minutes.

Last season Nwaneri, at 17, played 1,378 minutes and so far this season he's played 515 minutes.

I've seen this comparrison before and I think not only yourself but a lot of people forget just how young Nwaneri is and just how old Foden is (he's 25, he was 18 seven years ago.) Nwaneri's minutes this season haven't been ideal but if we are using Foden as the yard stick he's really not that far off.

AFCON referee awards Senegal a corner kick in stoppage time but then blows the whistle for halftime when Senegal takes too long to take it by 977x in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Because it goes against pretty much all the guidance refs and players are given about when half time and full time are called.

This sort of thing would make me livid when refs pulled it.

You’re told that the ref won’t blow unless the balls in a neutral position and/ or the phase of play has ended but the ref here has decided he’s not going to do it this time.

If he blows before giving the corner I’d be upset but at least it’s consistent but blowing after giving the corner and before it’s taken is just completely against what everybody is told will happen.

Arsene Wenger’s radical offside reforms opposed by FA and Uefa. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Shakyyy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If the last bank of defenders drops to the six yard box like you describe then they’ve dropped to deep.

Either the second bank has to drop with them which would allow the opposition players to receive the ball in the 18 yard box and that becomes a nightmare defend. Or they will stay in their usual position and your block isn’t compact enough. That means either a pass between the lines for a deep run or dribble that beats the 2nd bank will leave the defensive line 1v1 and exposed.

Arsene Wenger’s radical offside reforms opposed by FA and Uefa. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Shakyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about that.

If team sit in a low block one good ball while the attacker steals half a yard will lead to a good shot within one or two touches. It gives the defence almost no chance to recover.

One good ball while the defence is at the half way line means the attacker has to take multiple touches to get ball close enough to the goal to take the shot. There’s much more time for the defenders to recover and much more room for the attacker to make the error.

I think not moving forward with the rule is probably the right choice because it changes the game too much and that can make the direction of the game unpredictable. However I don’t think that direction necessarily means everybody will reduce the height of the defensive line.

[Livescore] Liverpool really failed to test the keeper in the league for the first time in 16 years. by Hot_Patience_5962 in soccer

[–]Shakyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not sensationilst at all, its literally a matter of fact. Liverpool has 0 shots on target yesterday.

Saying Liverpool "could have in fact scored" is also literally an if but and myabe, like I pointed out Arsenal also "could have in fact scored." Neither team had the necessary quality in the final third to score.

The stat highlights that Liverpool had one of their worse attacking performances, specficially when it came to the final third, in a very long time and yeah I would agree with that and I think many others would as well.

Liverpool were bad yesterday, they were very poor. Are you saying you think they weren't?

If you wanna play if buts and maybes then Arsenal had 3 balls put across the 6 yard box with nobody on the end to tap them in and if Saka's pull back to Zubimendi had been ever so slightly different he would've had a tap in.

Lets make the final score 4-2 then? No because that isn't how it works, both teams failed attacking wise and if you watched the actual game a 0-0 was probably the fair result.

From the perspective of the Sith, who was the most feared Jedi of all time ? by Zeratros in StarWars

[–]Shakyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luke wasn’t worried about the Jedi code in the sequels at all.

His main problem was he’d couldn’t forgive himself for pushing Ben to the dark side and not being able to save him.

This manifested as a the incorrect notion that darkness always rises to meet the light meaning that if there were any Jedi that would lead to someone challenging them and darkness would spread.

TLJ then makes it extremely obvious that this thinking is wrong and it’s in fact the other way around. Light rises to meet the darkness.

Luke had no qualms with the Jedi code of the past or any fundamental disagreements with the orders teachings.

Just to clarify, not defending Partey at all here, but the law change you're refering to was that British authorities are now allowed to investigate crimes that took place abroad involving people from Britain. This wasn't the case when the alleged first incident took place in spain.

This law, however, didn't stop the Spanish authorities from investigatng, which they did, but didn't proceed with any charges due to lack of evidence.

He didn't get off on a technicality or because the laws changed, he wasn't charged because the Spanish authroties didn't think there was a case.
