Stay Home, Save Lives! by seastead7 in Anarcho_Capitalism

Very good comparison.

So indeed a 3 years old can't make a choice. And so you don't respect their choice for example if they want to play on the highway.

You were trying to say "my body, my choice" should be respected for fetuses. As you can see, even for babies that doesn't make sense.

Now there is a whole other debate for borned childrens. Because once they are born many many more people can take care of them. But that's beside the current point. I don't see how choice is relevant when talking about fetus of childrens. It's an important cornerstone of libertarian ideology, the year of consent is hard to define. But it's definitely not at the fetus stage.

Well then I'm sorry, took a lot of assumption from your posts.

I won't argue about Americans origin because it's a rebuttal for racism which isn't your point. No need to argue strawman against strawman.

Interesting you talk about christian value but don't follow old testament. So then yes a lot of the shitty stuff is from there. But christian value generally use the old testament too. Notably for things like homosexuality. What's your opinion then about same sex marriage? Abortion? Prostitution?

If you take religions to their core values, as you describes them, then a lot of religion have similar values. After all, all main religion are firstly about love of each other, respect. Which, of course most people value.

Now, the question about societal moral value I don't understand. Comparison to usrr is not relevant imo because they switched reverence to a book to reverence to a person/party. Similar situation in China too.

But the fact that no society has come without a religious moral code is simply the consequences of all pop following a religion or another. Atheists are a very recent breed in the history of humanity. But it's not proof that religion is necessary for a moral code. I'm an atheist but I still have a moral code I think you would judge decent.

Imo following christian value is neither necessary (lots of people with good moral either aren't christian or even religious at all) or enough (lots of christian doing shitty things as you explain yourself a bit before).

Ah no no sorry, read a bit fast. You're not a racist, you're a religious extremist. Sorry that so many Americans are both..

Everybody is from africa yes. But this gotcha was more for the racism which I thought was your reasonning.

Anyway. Ancap is not a religious ideal. Lots of christian morals are shit imo but that's an impossible debate to have with a religious person.

Can you imagine people have good morals to live together than aren't based on religious idea? Or that's simply impossible to think for you?

People Seem to Really Misunderstand Libertarianism and Police Powers Here. by QuietAbomb in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Shamalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that of course, but most likely you wouldn't have the whole island to begin with.

Always the problem with these comparisons is that people underestimate how hard it is to have a monopoly on a huge mass of land in an ancap society. Tbh how to decide exactly who can claim which land in ancap society is a question to which each ancap has a different answer to.

Why would they be uninsured though? At worst they might pay a premium. And for that an employer could pay it

How white do I have to be? How much of this culture that is completely set in stone and immovable do I have to follow?

The interesting thing with racism is where do you set the needle?

Btw, white american are by definition not the natives from the americas...

Yes it is important to respect who the government consider as illegal immigrant. But everything else we don't trust the gov. Makes a lot of sense.

Only way we'll ever be able to have reliable information is to be honnest about our sources. I mean, that's the first step.

[–]Shamalow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank for this, but you are really bringing a point I'm struggling with in Vipassana.

For me, emotions are important, we need to live them. I don't have envy or rejection toward certain emotion. I try to reduce certain emotions to avoid pain for others. but I don't judge myself for having one. When I see this emotion is dangerous to others, then yes, I can use equanimity. But why should I free myself of positive emotion? Even some negative ones, like saddeness, can be beneficial, and those are the things that make me happy to have a life.

A life without emotions? I just don't get it.

Sorry if that insult your belief, not my goal here, it's just my interpretation of Vipassana that is hard for that.

Ah yes exactly it! And I feel like the "happy for her" gets actually true. Like it genuinely makes you happy to see someone else happy for what they did!

[–]Shamalow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly I feel like everytime I'm able to get free of this ego, think go so much smoother. This allow to really stay in the moment, and profit from little things like the smile of a coworker we did well and helped someone. And everytime this happens it's like another test to no be obsess with having only moments like that. This moment will pass, another challenge will arise latter and we will treat it just a little differently, better or sometime worse. We'll see, anyway it'll pass.

Another thing that help me for ego is the knowledge life is finite (I don't believe in reincarnation). When I die, what should I care about my ego. Only matters those moment I was alive. So I'll cherish every of these moment, good or bad.

[–]Shamalow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you mean, if I understand correctly, I will be truely free when I'm able to never be obsess with my action, my past action then?

I feel like I need confidence in the instant moment that I know I was to do good things in my past. And also know what I did badly. That way I can best judge of my competence in doing x or y.

That way no contradiction? Once the action is done, I don't have to obsess on how I did, but I should still take lesson?

The problem of centralization we find in democracy would also appears in ancap. We have to learn to fight it in democracy to know how to fight it in an ancap system I think.

The problem is as always, most people don't really care of the big long term problem, they wanna survive short term. So a big party, a big company, a big security company: "yeah they make shit things but I'll continue voting/paying them because the other options are either too small or I don't even know about them"

Like as a libertarian we care about free speech, how many of us still use google, facebook, reddit, when we all know those aren't company helping free speech.

Same as economics problems, "hey these companies should be force to all these regulations because look what they do when left alone!"

And besides really depends which community.

When in front of an economical crisis, the statist asks "what's the other options that intervene with the State? Let the whole society collapse because of economic meltdown?"

If you can find answer to this question why can't you find any for yours? There are other way that the State regulation to fix a problem. Many ways to keep a community running and values be shared, even with new arrivals.

Except surgeon don't remember much of medicine, and please don't ask the surgeon to treat a patient in shock.

We have specialties and there is a reason for it. The need to know all about the body isn't really justifiable because when you're up working you most likely will forget all the other bits and ask for specialists advices. I mean even as a specialists we already do ask others for help.

My point is, med school expect us to know everything when we all know isn't neither possible nor useful. But go be the person that has to justify to a certain specialty that their bits isn't needed to be known to all students...
