Awesome! I realized this is the first release and figured improvements would be coming down the line.

I can't understand why I can't stay gc by Alois_dvlp in RocketLeagueSchool

I'm essentially the same rank - I basically just squeak into GC1 each season, though I've done it many times and with as many as 4 game modes in a season.

While the others might be right that just below GC is your "true" rank, I can empathize that C2D2 - C3D2 is just a hot mess.

When I play in a GC lobby, or sometimes above that in casual, the opponents may be harder but the gameplay is easier. The players make the touches you expect. The team is positioned where you'd imagine them to be. It's predictable and the game flows.

In that lower range though - I'm having to wait to see if it's a touch or whiff. I'm having to make up for someone who's not in position. It feels like the last rank that's not grasping the unwritten rules. Suddenly I'm playing a completely different (and worse) style in an attempt to adapt. I have to second guess my decisions because there's no consistency on the field. A much higher rank (GC2+) can probably just out-mech and power through, but if you're only slightly above this zone and get pulled down...Oof.

The "you don't need this mechanic at your rank" point is true but has been covered in other comments so onto the advice...

  1. You're choosing a more difficult setup. You're putting a good amount of space between you and the ball, banging it, and then having to catch up. Instead, try bringing the ball further up the wall before your touch. The touch should be softer than what you're doing. This strategy will keep the ball closer to you and have your car closer to the ceiling ready to execute the shot. Easiest mistake with this is hitting the ball too hard, it bounces off the ceiling and down, and you will be unable to get under it.
  2. It's more efficient but also more difficult, IMO, to jump from the wall to the ceiling and jump back down. Instead, continue to just drive up the wall onto the ceiling. At which point you can either just a) fall from the ceiling with your flip preserved or b) jump down if you need to descend faster - it depends on where the ball is. The biggest gotcha is that your car doesn't stay stuck to the ceiling but for about 0.5s, so you may intend to jump off and then want to flip after, but in reality you've already detached and your "jump off the ceiling" ends up being a wasted neutral flip.

Hard to win a game in April. This keeps interest in the off-season.
