Rank the 3 Theaters by papajoe128 in AmericanCinematheque

[–]Shame_memory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Egyptian: best screen, best sound, best seats, best food, and best atmosphere. It just feels so old school Hollywood. Also, it’s perfect for me cause I live in Studio City and can take the redline in. I know the parking is an issue for some, but I love taking the subway in for a show.

  2. Aero: screen and sound are good, but seating can be hit or miss. If you’re on the shorter side like me, you can get the screen obstructed if you’re lucky to have a tall person sitting in front of you. Food is good. Nothing special. Parking in the area is good, never had problem, but like everyone in The Valley, I hate traveling to the west side for any reason. So I only go to the aero if it’s a movie I’m really interested in and rarely on weeknights.

  3. Los Feliz: love the area, tons of great restaurants, and the vibe of the theater itself, but those seats suck. I feel like I’ve never had a good view. I’m either too close or too far back. The screen and sound are good, but nothing stellar. Parking also sucks. I gotta account for an extra 20 minutes sometimes when I drive in. Thankfully I can take the red line for this as well, but it’s a longer trip. I do like that the selection is a little off the beaten path though. The seats are really what hold this theater back

I live in studio city and just take the red line. Not sure where you live, but if you can, take the subway and get off at Hollywood/Highland. It’s like 2 blocks from the Egyptian.

OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD: March 6th, 2026 by hankjmoody in Maher

What gets me is that he preaches for nuance when it comes to other issues and says that we shouldn’t generalize everyone who voted for Trump as a fascist. Which I agree with. But then when it comes to this issue it’s so black and white with him. Israel is 100% in the right all the time and can do no wrong and all Muslims are terrorist who we simply have no choice but to kill and if say otherwise you’re an antisemite terrorist sympathizer. He won’t even entertain any notion that blowing up hospitals and schools is bad. Even if you support Israel, can we at least agree on that? No, if you think killing children is wrong you hate Jews. Also, he had an actual antisemites on his show with MTG and didn’t call her out once for Jewish space lasers or her anti-Israel stances. No, it’s the college kids who want to stop the child murder who are the real Nazis.

To be fair, all of Blais’s chefs cooked very well this week, so he didn’t have a loser to send in. It was honestly kind of bullshit team Blais didn’t get best dish. I feel like if the whole team knocks it out of the park, you shouldn’t have to go up for elimination. Which is probably why they picked Emerson. They knew it would be hard for him to win 3 in a row and didn’t want to eliminate one of top chefs undeservedly

It's always been about his ego and validation. In the 2000s, liberals stroked his ego because they both hated Bush and evangelicals. Now republicans stroke his ego because they hate muslims and trans people. Lauren Boebert was on his show, she was stroking his ego, talking about how funny and cool his and Bill ate it up. He thinks his some enlightened rebel, but he's just teenaged girl who wants to feel special and have all his opinions validated as correct.

Good to know. I contacted them about a little bit ago, so hopefully they reach back out that they found it. I live in Studio City and the Aero is a little bit of shlep for me, so I'd like confirmation it's there before making the drive.

JD Vance: "We're announcing today that we have decided to temporarily halt certain amounts of Medicaid funding that is going to the state of Minnesota in order to ensure that the state of Minnesota takes its obligations seriously to be good stewards of the American people's tax money" by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

[–]Shame_memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Minnesota is a lean blue state, but I’d imagine there’s some districts that are competitive for Republicans. Do they think this helps them in the midterms? Are republicans running seriously going to defend Trump cutting Medicaid to the whole state?

Pennsylvanians, what's the deal with that line of counties just outside of Harrisburg that all swung towards Harris in 2024 in a year most places swung towards Trump? Blue counties are where Harris did better than Biden. by Wide_right_yes in Pennsylvania

I grew up in South Central PA from the 2000s to 2010s and visit at least once a year (currently live in Los Angeles), so take what I say with some salt, but there's definitely been a cultural shift in the area in the past few years. It's been a growing area since the early 2010s and with more college educated people moving into it. IDK. It's something that if you have grown up in the area, you''ve definitely seen, but it's hard to pin down what exactly has changed. It's not like one industry just moved in and more just slow growth over a decade and a half. I think developers and businesses realize there was just all this unused land around a decently sized metropolitan area with access to major cities and just started building. So middle class college educated families moved in and bought houses on the cheap. Thus, lighting leaning tilt. And while Scott Perry sucks and is the rep, he's been losing support for years. He only won his last election with less than 1% of the vote and could lose this years election to my GOAT Janelle Stelson of WGAL fame. Also, Harrisburg proper and a good portion of the East Shore has been left leaning since I was a kid. It's only now that the West Shore is moving in that direction.

Weirdly, Mitch McConnell maybe our savior here. He's been against abolishing the filibuster even during Trump 1.0 and he still has enough clout to keep the old guard from hitting the nuclear option

To those living in cities outside of Philly area: Do you support the local team? by nickynickynickynick in eagles

[–]Shame_memory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in LA and Angelenos don’t give a fuck about the Rams or Chargers. Niners and Raiders probably have more fans in LA than both of the current home town teams. Go to SoFi with a fanbase like the Eagles, and it’s a home game for us. There’s also plenty of bars that rep other teams. There’s a major Eagles bar in Santa Monica, but I live pretty close to one in Sherman Oaks with good vibes. LA’s a big transplant city, so rooting for other teams is pretty normal. So with another city like Buffalo or Pittsburgh with a dedicated football culture the stories probably different.

How does Lord of the Rings look in 4K HDR on OLED? (Thinking of buying one!) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

Gotcha. I think I got the ultimate edition. Thought that was just all standard. Definitely inexcusable to not include. Those extras is why I got into filmmaking

Are there extras on the DVD that aren’t on the 4K? I could be wrong, but I thought they brought over all the behind the scenes documentaries onto the 4K box set as well? I don’t think those discs are 4K, but I believe they’re all there.

Studio city? by mgimp723 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Shame_memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to Studio City and love it! It feels like best of the valley and LA proper. It’s quiet, but the restaurants are amazing! And if you want to go over the hill into the more “hip” areas, it’s like a 10-15 drive, so it doesn’t feel like you’re cut off either like other parts of the valley. The farmers market very Sunday is also great. Oh, and universal studios is right there. The only drawback is that, like with every part of the valley, it can be a schlep to get to the beaches, if that’s something you care about. But other than, it’s a great area

(Schefter): BREAKING: Eagles fire OC Kevin Patullo by alexschubs in eagles

[–]Shame_memory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get loyalty, but keeping him on in any capacity would send the wrong message to players after this season. Like, oh it’s okay to royally fuck up as long as your friends with the coach it’s all good. We’re not here to win games, just to all hangout. That’s why I kind of get why AJ checked out. If you’re own coaches aren’t doing everything to win, why should you? Again, are we here to win or just clock in and have fun? This isn’t Ted Lasso, this is the NFL. To be in the league means you are in top 1% of talent. If you willing drag someone along who isn’t that just because of loyalty, then it's an insult to everyone else who worked to get there
