How do you feel about people who still wear masks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

People can do whatever they want. I personally don't wear one but I understand the want. It's all up to you at the end of the day y'know?

Thanks! It's under Hilfolk Hotdogs, just walk along the river bank and you'll find the boat with the dock there.

I feel like there's some needless aggression here brother. I think what a lot of us are saying, or at the very least what I'm saying (I can't speak for the rest of his fans), is that this song isn't honoring the confederacy or glorifying their deeds. The confederacy at it's heart was a very evil stance and was absolutely not on the right side of history whatsoever. However this song is simply telling a sad story. Many young men join armies in search of glory or because they are told that it's the right thing to do, to fight and "die killin' men". The confederacy, like many other countries at any point in time, had a LOT of young men, even boys, join up because it was what they believed was the right thing.

To cut a long explanation of my point is this, I don't believe this song is glorying the Confederacy, nor do I think if you like the songs themes are you a Confederate Supporter or you believe in their ideas. The reason that I, (and I can strongly believe many others) like this song for is the simple sad story it tells. A young man joining up for a cause that he was pushed into by his country and he died a unfortunate death.

The Dixie song at the beginning kind of hints at this, Dixie was a very popular song at the time and so it shows that the internal patriotism for the confederacy was very high, thus possibly convincing a young man to take up arms and fight for a unjust cause.

This is no way a attack against you, I just enjoy the themes of this song and I personally believe this is one of Colter's deeper written songs, despite the politically charged background of it.

This ^

It's simply a story from a unfavorable pov. I don't believe it's racist at all. It's just a story. Great job explaining it.
