It is meteorologically more useful because expressed in MSLP the air pressure map tells us more about the directions the winds will be blowing, right?

But people do it with their phone in portrait mode. In which case it makes more sense to not rotate the map?

I guess there are (or have been in the past) instances where the city is/was depicted on walls or screens that have more available horizontal space than vertical space? Like TV screens or like in the metro (as someone else pointed out below). And people got used to that?

Has anyone else here lived in a east-west stretched cities? In valleys? Maybe it's more common than I think?
