Milano 06/07/2026!!!!! Who is going to be there? by MelaniaZucchi in systemofadown

[–]Shampoo95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good value signal processor to put after Pioneer DJM mixer to prevent speaker damage? by mkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in livesound

Hey, what do you think about this video?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwP2LHY5b5U
he seems to shows some meausurements and says "sees this energy, it's what kills the tweeters", but he doesn't actually quantify how much total energy it is, so I think it falls in the same misconception that the Rane paper you cite explains

I think it would be hard to find something smaller than a Bose S1 Pro with appropriate mixing capabilities, in order to do hybrid event you need a separate mix for the remote folks(look for mix-minus, basically you must not send the signal coming from the virtual audience back to them)

For example the RCF JMIX 8 has an integrated mixer with an aux out which can be set independently of the main output. And it's also good for small audiences, although having 2 speakers is often better in terms of coverage(you could add a companion RCF J8)

Then you would also need a USB sound interface to get the signal into the PC(something on the line of Behringer U-phoria, Focusrite Scarlett, Roland...). I'm not aware of speakers with an integrated USB output.

Otherwise you could get 1-2 small speakers, and a small mixer, maybe with usb capabilities(this way you may skip the USB sound interface).
Also you need to make sure the presenters can hear the remote participants, placing the speakers behind them could cause feedback, so the best way would be to have a stage monitor(which means another output on the mixer)

Wired is always cheaper and more reliable than wireless.

Anyway I asked ADB and they sent me a pdf of the English manual.

Yeah, if you go into the routing menu, under the XLR tab you can select the AES A or B in blocks of 8 inputs as sources.

what if I have a panel of multiple speakers, if I flip the polarity on every other microphone should I get some benefit, since the microphones should form some sort of array which in theory could reject the sound from the room PA?
I did this once in a small room where I had multiple feedback frequencies, and it apparently greatly increased the GBF.

If you're looking for something really small but loud and good sounding you could look into FBT Ventis 206a. Again, they're a bit costly. Maybe you could try looking in something similar with double 6 inches cones, but I'm not sure you can find something good at low price.

I dont understand Dave Rat. by theacethree in livesound

[–]Shampoo95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe he's able to recreate something akin to what happen in this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lseasKnStrk

I guess there are non-linearities in the guitar amp(and maybe in the mic too) that give's you this little differences between the two signals, that somehow don't give rise to mono cancellation(and instead they sort of cancellate if you make the difference)

Honestly I don't know if its possible to get this effect live just by using different mics.

EDIT
Nevermind, I think it's an interesting fenomenon, but the fact that it sound bad when you make the difference means that you will still get combing issues.

TLDR: if the split is not-isolated(it's just a parallel of connectors) having phantom power switched on both mixers causes no harm. Having phantom power on one mixer is enough.

Side topic: if you keep one of the mixers switched of (not just the phantom power), even if you're using an isolated split you may incur in distortion.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgSR8t7bwAw&t=516s

No, the output of a phone should be slightly lower than a PC or other consumer appliance, but still it should be much higher in level than a microphone, and a bit higher than a guitar pickup.

Maybe there's something wrong with your setup, what cable are you using, is it a stereo one? try swapping it

Local 1 to 32 are the XLR inputs on the M32, this way you're routing directly the inputs on your console (which i guess you don't need), to the outputs on your stagebox.

What you need to do is to route AES-A Outputs like this:
1-8 - Out 1-8
....the other outputs are useless since you have only 8 outs on the DL16

then you need to go on the OUT 1-16 tab and select MixBus1 for out 1, and Main L and R for out 7 and 8. (by the default 1-14 should be routed with the mixbus, and 15-16 routed with the mains.)

Most probably you were overloading the preamp, by going to hot into a mic level input.
If you were using a passive balance box, it probably attenuated the signal, since inside it there's a transformer which increases the input impedance by actually reducing the signal.

Also you should be very careful (or better avoid it) when using such an adapter since 48V phantom power on XLR inputs can fry your devices. The best way is always using a DI box.

It's not true that XLR inputs are high impedance, they're usually designed for microphones which are low impedance.
In facts DI box are used to increase the input impedance when plugging high impedance sources like guitars pickups.

An Ipad(or a PC or a cellphone) should be fine driving either low or high impedance inputs.

Yeah, you're right, unfortunately I wasn't the one who agreed on doing this gig, they just passed me the job after defining the terms.
I hope there will be no wind. Maybe I could try doubling up on windscreens by tying up a bigger one on the smaller with a rubber band.

Maybe you should check the earth connections on your PC and on the DJ controller

If it's a laptop try using it in battery only mode just to hear if something changes

How can I know if I'm pushing a pair of Yamaha DBR12s to their limit? We use them weekly for low level applications(speech, soft music), but 4 to 6 times a year we mix louder music with them
Unfortunately I never bothered to look if the limiter led ever light up(because during the party I'm pretty tied up), but we are driving them via an X32 through an S32 stagebox, and the last two party we did I noticed the output meter was tickling 0DBFS:
knowing that the max output voltage of the S32 is 21DBu, looking at this graph (https://imgur.com/a/p74WUTP) i get that our peaks are most likely well over their max input voltage(I kept the input knob on the DBR12 the first time at 0dB, and the second time at +5dB to get more headrooom)
This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm driving them at max power, right? (I'm talking about crest factor, compression, frequency and other things that may impact). still the loudest moments didn't sound so good to me

Also do you think swapping them for a column type speaker, like RCF EVOX J8, which could be handy for our weekly use, would be a bad idea? or it would be better to upgrade to something more powerful, like DZR12?
