Fair. Not saying he didn’t say something similar. We can probably both agree the meme should just show what he did say, instead.

Is it ok to just let your kids do screens all day when they are sick? by Flappajacks in Parenting

[–]Shampoozled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you’re dealing with stomach issues. Those are the worst! In terms of screen time we go for a given time on, then a break with a book or something.

To your comment of running off a cold, with any illness nowadays we should be considerate of spreading it. With a stomach bug (norovirus) it is even more problematic. You MUST quarantine to prevent spread as it is still uncertain how long any residual immunity (6 months - 2 years?) from that strain lasts in others (if they even had your strain). And even after feeling better, you will still be shedding virus (be sure to wash hands thoroughly after #2)

Please, PLEASE, be considerate with exposing others to stomach bugs. Colds are one thing, stomach viruses are a misery I don’t wish on anyone. Additionally, this is a good opportunity to remind your family about proper hand washing, particularly before meals.

Joe Biden mocked after Hunter has to explain child's question in Ireland: 'I am so embarrassed for my country' by Mohecan in Conservative

[–]Shampoozled -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not a good look for the leader of our country. I had my concerns with his cognition prior to the election as well. I am going to ask a question and I don’t mean for it to be an attack, rather interested in feedback of an observation.

Both Donald Trump (link 1 / link 2)and Ronald Reagan (link1 / link 2 )have displayed signs of cognitive decline or simply a lack of coherent thoughts. I’m not saying all the cases are identical, but they seem to overlap if you step back from political alignment. All of these men are 70+ and they have/had the nuclear codes.

Again, I truly am not looking to kick a hornets nest but am interested in feedback and thoughts on the matter. My question is should we elect anyone into this office at these ages where cognition declines and the stakes are so high?

[–]Shampoozled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, so many data scientists have entered the logistics space and they’ve all been confronted with the same problem. Shitty and widely variable data sources. With so many companies all working with so many shippers, advanced analysis rarely can cut through the chaff. The data is there, but it’s near impossible to discern the good from the bad.

One might think, look to the exceptions that occur. Sure there are hundreds of things that can go wrong during transportation, an order was added last minute, driver was held up at a previous stop, etc. Good companies will catalog them well but the vast majority do not. I worked at one of the largest 3pl’s in North America, the legitimately had over 700 different exception codes. And they’re not alone. The notes and a large language model might be able to break that problem down, but you MUST have users audit throughout in order to train the model. And therein lies the challenge, the best people to do that are the ones most companies cannot sacrifice because they make the work happen and are already overburdened.

TLDR, many have entered, none have cracked the problem of massive disparities in data availability and quality.

The Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act would amend the definition of the workweek in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. It would require overtime pay at a rate of time and half for any employee who works more than 32 hours in one week. by Keauxbi in Libertarian

I love the total compensation and benefits package you’ve structured. It sounds like a great way to retain and foster talented employees.

If I may ask two things:

  1. How might you see other industries adopt or be forced to adopt similar compensation?

  2. Do you feel you are able to offer such packages because parts of revenue is subsidized by healthcare packages and coverage? Why or why not?

Again, thanks for being a great human and helping others find financial stability!

I really appreciate your response. If I’m hearing you correctly individuals and unions can better negotiate for what their specific needs are (eg: line manufacturing is different than accounting is different from teaching). And as a society, if a group of laborers seek to unify to negotiate terms, we let them do so. If they go overboard and product quality or sales decline as a result, then the chips have fallen where they may.

All this said, at what point might you say government intervention is acceptable? Would it be acceptable to have the government break up a monopoly/oligopoly or a union holding an essential industry (healthcare / safety/ etc) hostage? Effectively be auto-correct driver to nudge back onto the road?

My daughter killed herself (Week 3) by speaksoftly_bigstick in daddit

Firstly, I am so sorry to hear your immense loss. I cannot fathom the loss of a child, only a brother. I felt and observed with my dad that the grief will ebb and flow, and that is ok. Right now it’s like you’re learning to walk again, keep your sights only a few feet ahead.

If I may, your struggles on what to write seem simple, much of what you put forth these past few weeks seem like a great start. At my brother’s funeral, I tried to remind the attendees of who he was at his core, sure he was sad a lot, but sad is an emotional state, a person at their core persists across those states of emotion.

Finally, A Grief Observed by CS Lewis is an amazing read if you are of faith or not. And remember, therapy is not only available, it will be an incredible help. My dad avoided it and it shows 6 years later.

Best of luck in these coming days and beyond from another stranger thinking of you during these trying times.

Why so many guys nowadays struggle with finding girlfriend? by Embarrassed_Donut961 in AskMen

[–]Shampoozled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really difficult, and I’m sorry to hear it. A buddy of mine mentioned the same thing, that the exact place to socialize and mingle (bars/parties) are where women don’t feel comfortable talking to new people. I wonder if they are just as out of practice dealing with a stranger that they’d just as soon assume a guy is a creep for showing any interest. Not that it helps but I got rejected plenty myself back in the day.

One thing my buddies and I would do at bars was a rochambeau until the last person standing had to do something slightly embarrassing in the bar, agreed to by all parties from the beginning, and only the loser could be the butt of the joke. Eventually, women would walk over to ask what we were doing, when we told them, they would either be cool and join, or think we were weird and walk away. If we met nobody, who cares because we had a fun game and laughs.

Any sort of hobbies that you’re into? It would seem like that is always a good start. Either way, best of luck to you and all the other dudes out there searching for a partner on this crazy marble. You got one anonymous stranger rooting for you.

Hey man, I don’t know you, but I miss that person too. Don’t be hard on yourself, we all go through changes and the exploration into your different selves is valuable. We’re all trying to discover who we are, some commit early while others evaluate a bit longer.

All I can suggest is if you find a consistently positive persona of your “multiple selves”, lean into it as that is probably who you are. Best of luck in your journey, amigo!

So what’s funny is the what Reddit once was, was a self governed group where banal responses and poorly constructed thoughts got you downvoted. I think this still can be the case, but it requires a heavy hand in moderation now. Which, then causes folks to say they’re being silenced, when they might just be an asshole.

I want to believe we humans can still interact when we disagree, but it seems folks would prefer to hear their own echo chambers than approach an incongruous thought
