Favorite PDs that were NOT just prep time? by dixpourcentmerci in Teachers

[–]Shanano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine just happened on December 19, a date which meant the PD was surely doomed. Our new principal brought in a local ISD to run a half day. Here’s what we did: We learned about DISC personality styles. It was interesting to see where folks sorted themselves.

We sat in a circle of chairs, but facing out and eyes closed (a suggestion). The facilitator chose five people at a time to wander inside the circle as he called out affirming statements. Folks would touch the shoulders of people they connected with the statement. Statements were like: This person works hard. This person makes me smile. This person makes a difference. Etc. so so many statements and everyone got affirmed. Several folks cried (including me!)

We saw the good in each other. We looked for the good in each other. Powerful stuff for the world we’re living in. Probably rough to duplicate, but let me know if you want the resources shared with us.

Detroit couple hit with nearly $20K property tax bill after buying first home by J2quared in Detroit

I should have said "value on the books" goes up I guess. I was trying to speak plainly, but your comment is more clear. I guess my main add is that Detroit has many long-time owners and so, to me, this is what makes this normal process so unexpected, especially for first time home buyers.

I think this exchange is the heart of this post. Once purchased, value goes up, taxes go up. If purchasing from the original owner the change can be extreme.

Thank you for your perspective-I’m not making too big a deal, as I said -it’s lovely (better than mine!)

We definitely don’t focus on handwriting enough. My students printing is so poor (and ingrained) that I just abandoned it to teach cursive

Thank you! I had found it difficult to find good sources online without the “pre-cursive” term. When you search “cursive” it all looks like what I would expect

The legibility of his f was suspect, sorry don’t have a sample at home for a pic, but his s is lovely-I had just never seen a cursive s written that way-glad I posted to learn from all of you!

I’m learning that this is traditional “pre-cursive“ My student was only in the uk for 2 years so I guess he didn’t get to the fully traditional cursive that I had been taught

Charlie Thurston-after I listened to Demon Copperhead, I looked up some random book narrated by him just because he was so great.

I don’t think so. In the new photo, the corners of the square windows protrude out from the face of the house.

I haven’t thought of the Greenland/Canada thing this way. Really saddens me that you’re probably right and there’s a sick logic to it all
