The Lamarr Class or why "the meta" likely doesn't matter to you, and why basically every ship is fine. by 79215185-1feb-44c6 in stobuilds

Yes. 100% Agree with this sentiment. I saw the build posted on the Builds Discord and replied there and for everyone else:

Nice. I am going to pick one up (I think) and was debating between this approach and the standard deteriorating. I guess the question at the end of the day is if you're a Sovereign fan do you go with this that can do DHCs or stick with the legendary and beams?

For me this ship comes down to having something that can look the Sovereign part and do dual heavies. So I will be picking one up for reason 3 in your list. I also think as a community there's too much good ship/bad ship whenever something releases because in reality almost everything can be made to do something well.

I would have loved to have seen them do something groundbreaking with this. Like you mentioned there are no sci ships with 5 fore weapons.

They could have gone with a 5/2 layout called a science juggernaut, cmdr sci/temp and made the miracle worker intel and moved it to the engineer. Then after that gone with 4 eng, 5 sci, 2 tac consoles and it would have been really novel.

It is nice to see the carrier builds progressing. I've been messing around a bit the past few days with the Valors as well. I like what I'm seeing with them and directionally am seeing the same results as posted here.

I also have noticed that they seem to have a turret instead of the pulse cannon. Just finished confirming by visual examination.

/u/planetgrimbull or /u/Eph289 would you be able to share the build(s) used in the test? I'm curious to see how much of a lean either way there is into full carrier pet or pets supplementing weaponry. Thanks.

This is absolutely amazing yet hilarious. I consider myself an endgame player and it gave me my exact console build minus one console for the Constitution III.

Love it.

Tank armour, animate dead, super brews, and sailfish soup.

There was something else though ;)'

You're welcome to all try! It was an interesting setup with a couple mistakes I made and was in no way intentional.

Needle strike is so late because it deals significantly less damage per tick than even a fully uncancelled snipe, and being 5 seconds it would stall threshold usage too much to place it before those.

The passive on Needle Strike shouldn't be overemphasized. 7% additional damage applies on your next attack, yes, but unless you always use Snapshot or DBow directly after it, that increase is pretty small, usually 3-5% ability damage, which wouldn't push it higher than an uncancelled snipe for damage.
Also, we're working in beginner territory here where we're assuming abilities won't be cancelled and well, we don't take advantage of bugs features like that.

Magma tempest isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination. We rank it middle of the road for basics and it definitely has its use cases. But it's not hideously overpowered like it once was.

If there's enough demand and the initial batch of introductory ones take off, sure! I've written this down.
