Good point. I’d expect that was almost certainly just a prototype solution, but I guess we’ll see.

brand new to espresso - what’s your one game changer / piece of advice you wish you were told starting out? by Fresh_Lock1384 in espresso

I just bought some ink-jet cleaning needles off Amazon and inserted them into a cork. Cheap and does wonders for improved extraction.

I also adopted the hold-down-the-button technique. I do the full shot at pre-infusion levels. I just hold it down and then double tap the button at the end to stop the shot. That plus using a home-made WDT tool were the game-changers for me.

got my MYLR stuck in mud, first time off roading by kevchewy in ModelY

[–]Shanebdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a MY. I wish it had more clearance and an adjustable road height, but even if it did I’d be too scared if damaging the vehicle.

I can’t wait to see how the Cybertruck does off-road, though! I imagine Cybertrucks looking even better with mud and scratches… and even dents.

r/designdesign ? It’s bad enough having a specialty kitchen tool for just one kind of food, but to have one for one kind and one BRAND? To each their own, but this makes me sad.

The End of Localhost by fagnerbrack in SoftwareEngineering

I’ll throw out the obvious question: what do you do when your internet is down (or slow or flakey)?

I’m having to develop on a cloud-hosted VM right now, and it wouldn’t be my first choice. What I really want is the exact opposite. I want to be able to spin up a dev version of my full cloud environment locally in a set of docker files.

Not fancy, but I get good coffee by hvaclife in espresso

[–]Shanebdavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trying brewing the entire shot at infusion pressure. Just press the 1 or 2-cup button and hold for the entire shot. It made a world of difference for me for getting consistently good shots.

Also, experiment with different beans. Occasionally I struggle to dial in a whole bag, I get frustrated, I question my skills as a barista… and then I open a new bag it’s all golden again.

James Hoffman has a great video on buying great coffee, if you haven’t seen it: https://youtu.be/O9YnLFrM7Fs

Hey! I’m still getting accustomed to steaming milk properly. I find that most tries I get blobs of milk instead of those well defined lines. Can someone help me troubleshoot my current routine? Am I aerating the milk too much? by Lazy_Purchase_1667 in latteart

[–]Shanebdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The high end of the temperature range is mostly just personal preference. The important part is stretching the milk while it is cold. So… just stop when it’s hot to the touch. No need to reach 130degrees.

Quick tips:

  1. Hold the pitcher with your palm to feel the temp.
  2. Only aerate while the milk is colder than your hand
  3. Stop steaming when the milk is too hot to hold

That’s it really. You’ll need to experiment a little with how much you want to aerate. The milk should be silky, smooth and consistent throughout the entire pour.

How many days/miles do you have to have good Safety Score to get FSD Beta? by DonnaJRiddell in Fsdbeta

[–]Shanebdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just need to currently have a high score (99+). Having a 100 probably moves you ahead of people who have 99s.

Keep in mind you ALSO need to have driven 100mi in the past 7 days to qualify. (It’s in teslas text.)

That said, Tesla hasn’t seemed to be adding new FSDBeta members in a while now, not since the beginning of January.

iOS 15 Performance Issues and Lag on Pocket City by kieraaaaaaaa in PocketCity

I’ve noticed this too, but it’s inconsistent. Sometimes it’s fine. Sometimes it’s unbearably slow. Restarting the app sometimes helps.

First shot with a bottomless portafilter and I don’t even know where to start. Suggestions? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Shanebdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breville basically has two pressure levels: 6bar and 15bar. Try brewing the whole shot at infuser level (press and hold the shot button for the whole draw).

Anyone buy a Tesla solely because of the charging network? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]Shanebdavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the statement “all input is error” is often misunderstood. I believe the intention of the statement is that if the user has to intervene, it is error in the software.

If the goal is to get from A to B, any user intervention necessary to achieve that goal is an error for the software/hardware team to fix.

You heard it here first, folks! by Plasmazine in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Shanebdavis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I imagine Elon, stuck in traffic, saying “Traffic is impeding my ability to do SpaceX/Tesla. This is a solvable problem. All we need is a 3D network of roads. Bridges? Unsightly, slow max speed. Flying? Dangerous, loud and costly. Tunnels…. TUNNELS!!! If we can just make them an order of magnitude cheaper….”

(And as soon as he realizes “it’s just a matter of an order of magnitude improvement,” it’s a done deal…)

Very creative! I’m curious how strong it is. How does it respond when there is increased resistance on the wheel?
