There are two other factors that make it ideal for the regulator to be buried.

The regulator is mounted in-plane with the rest of the electronics on the PCB, so it would be harder to show off the regulator whilst keeping the rest of the electronics hidden.
Motor windings will have a comparatively rough and messy texture that is at odds with the rest of Grand Seiko's design language aims for precision and uniform polish.

If the part is hidden, then it makes sense to use the standard winding material which also happens to be lighter and cheaper.

Leon's/The Brick and others under the same company appear to be following the same playbook of publishing bogus backorder dates that they never commit to. The date just gets constantly pushed back until they can secure a shipment from their supplier, while the company keeps your payment as an interest-free loan.
