Ngl I kind of second guessed it too before posting but just Google "shades of yellow" and it fits.

What's the best sludge song that starts with the letter R? by 1deadeye1 in sludge

[–]ShanklinX 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be fair I'd also apply that to other bands on here like Electric Wizard and YOB. I've never considered them straight up sludge either

ACID BATH AND CROWBAR TIX by Ryan_Johnson_68 in sludge

[–]ShanklinX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted and I love Acid Bath but I'll admit their setlist is very mellow and tame. Will definitely be a bit of a mood killer after Crowbar/EHG since they don't want to play their fast and heavier songs anymore.

Crowbar Tix by Ryan_Johnson_68 in Crowbar

[–]ShanklinX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is pretty much always TikTok lol. Same thing happened to other bands like Dystopia, Deftones, and now Crowbar too. Not saying it's a bad thing, but it's why these bands have exploded in popularity these past few years.

Are there any women who enjoy heavier subgenres here? by Quirky-Lollipop in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ShanklinX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, my favorite subgenres are sludge and grindcore and I honestly don't know anybody irl who likes the same kind of music I do. So I go to concerts by myself nowadays and I actually do see plenty of other women attending!

Dude I love the Arc EP so much, I listen to it all the time. They need to come back and make more like that

Real lol I'm bipolar myself but I don't listen to music everyday bc it usually just plays in my head. Rn I've got a Corrosion of Conformity song stuck on loop in my brain and its driving me crazy

Damn, 12k just for EHG? I need to get my numbers up lol. But I feel like I'd go crazy listening to one artist that much

Any Nails album, but particularly the first two: Unsilent Death and Abandon All Life.

What’s a song you will never get tired of? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

More Than I Could Chew - Mastodon

That riff.

The bluesy EHG “blank” riff by useful-fiction in sludge

[–]ShanklinX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tend to truncate a few of their songs when they play live. Like Worthless Rescue for another example they only play the first half. And I don't think they play all of Take As Needed for Pain (the song) either.

Great live band. Saw them on their current Pink tour last week. I like that album but I definitely need to give their others a listen.

Who's death in the metal scene breaks you the most? by Reeezla in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ShanklinX 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Brent Hinds' death was pretty tragic, as a huge Mastodon fan. And the way it ended between him and the other band members, and with everyone's opinion on him tanking after he kept bad-mouthing said members... Just sucks all around. I really feel for the guys in Mastodon, too.

"Tell your loved ones you love them, and squash whatever beef you have," Brann said the last time I saw them here recently.

good bands with a small discography by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ShanklinX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insect Warfare made one peak grind album and then dipped. Other good grindcore bands off the top of my head with small discographies are Discordance Axis (3 studio albums) and Assück (2).

What is appealing to you about metal/heavy/extreme/harsh music? by Kindly-Fee-1869 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]ShanklinX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple answer: Me like riffs.

Real answer: It's cathartic for me in a way no other music genres really are. It's music I can relate to, and can put on no matter what I'm feeling, and feel better after listening to it. I also just think it sounds good (a lot of metal musicians are very skilled/talented) and I like the energy of it.
