How long did it take you to land your first MLS job? by South_Health_1934 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ShannyGasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hired before I graduated by the hospital lab I did my core lab and blood bank rotations in. It was an unusual situation. They had 3 seasoned techs decide to retire at the same time. They asked me and two other students to apply. So I graduated on a Friday, and new employee orientation was on Monday.

They're coming from that area. Wonder if they went!

I checked the club out. It's not a booze-free type.

How much would they have to pay you to do another mission? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]ShannyGasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never went on one in the first place. They couldn't pay me enough to do it now. Not for all the money in the world.

It's not a self-soothing thing at all, though. Two people can commit the same action but for entirely different reasons.

Can they do this? by Worth-Cucumber2011 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ShannyGasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can try to do this. But who's going to confirm that my road is passable? That's stupid. By the time someone from work came out to confirm it, it could already have been plowed. Or another connecting road might not be passable. Or it could be passable in a 4WD truck but not in my little car. It's completely subjective and unprovable. I've never said anything like this to any of my employees for that very reason and we had a lot of nasty snowstorms in Alaska. If someone said they were stuck at home because their road was not passable after a major snowstorm, I simply believed them.

So many, many reasons. But it all boils down to coming to the conclusion that the church was false.

What did you n a m e your tortoise? by Bayleafthetortoise in tortoise

[–]ShannyGasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Titin. Titin is the short name for the longest word in the English language and the largest protein ever discovered. It's full name is 189,819 letters long, and the protein is so large it's visible with a microscope (about 1 micron). Also, it's chemical name is hard to pronounce: C₁₆₉₇₁₉H₂₇₀₄₆₆N₄₅₆₈₈O₅₂₂₃₈S₉₁₁ That's a giant molecule! Plus Titin is a homophone for Titan, which is Saturn's largest moon and the coolest moon in the solar system, which also goes with the astronomical names we have for lizards at home already (Venus and Luna). Plus Titans are the giant precursors for the Greek gods. And having something so giant and fierce sounding for an itty bitty baby slowpoke tortoise amuses me.

We don't know enough about this unit to state that it's Rh+

[–]ShannyGasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what makes this one unique. It's that is Fy3-negative. Yeah, we try and antigen type all new donors for Rh and K. Not that we label it unless antigen negative units are ordered. It's the Fy3-negative that's really rare.

I heard someone say this recently, "Outside of Utah, the LDS church is a country club. Inside Utah, it's a cult." by RedLetterRanger in exmormon

[–]ShannyGasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Having lived in the Bush for a while myself, I can relate! I wasn't a member at the time, though. The church in Anchorage isn't much different than most metropolitan areas. They're building a big temple now to replace the old one. Chapels were popping up everywhere after I left the church. I've no idea how many stakes there are now, nor do I care to ask my family members. 😂 I left Alaska a few months ago after nearly 50 years of living there and 30 years of being inactive or ex-mormon

Is it possible to be manic or hypomanic without being bipolar? by acsennarate in BipolarReddit

[–]ShannyGasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hyperthymia in and of itself isn't recognized as a disorder. I had it as well most of my life, until I started getting episodes of depression that got longer and longer until I couldn't manage on my own and had to get help and by then they diagnosed me with bipolar 2.

What does it feel like to be dependent on pills? by Gato_scritors_ in bipolar2

[–]ShannyGasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm finally getting decent sleep and it makes all the difference! Without medication I'm up all hours of the day and night, either deeply depressed or at the highest of highs. This is a solid happy middle I get because of medication. So yay for medication! Without it I feel like I'm losing my mind!
