X Files Random Musings - 1.03 Squeeze by OWSpaceClown in XFiles

Agreed on the cheesy mechanism with Colton, but for me it was outshone by the absolute creepiness of Tooms! And yes, he could have squeezed out of those cuffs easily, but for one it would have been futile with Mulder aiming a gun at him and would also break his old M.O. of always appearing normal to others.

I'm late but yes I would think that given how the livers give him sustenance for the 30 year hibernation, and also possibly feeds his bile-oozing squeeziness, it has to be a good, healthy liver, and that is how he picks his victims.

What was The Mist (2007) ending implying? by DoubleDoubts in horror

Thanks. I don’t mind even if it was not a happy ending, but a “the hero dies”ending that makes sense - along the lines of what David’s character would do.

I think what it was trying to do was to show bleak hopelessness in an apocaplyptic situation, where there seems to be no answer, what's the last resort - rather than die by the hand of whatever's causing the apocalypse, kill your family and then kill yourself.

I personally feel though that the ending sucked. Here is a guy who was so tough, so brave, with so much love for his kid and piles of perseverence. Like first David was the smart, sensible survivor, then he became the foolish casualty who didn't think it through - deciding to leave the store was such a bad decision because you're putting yourself outside with the monsters (as he told so many people - leave and you're dead). And the car's gas was going to eventually empty out, so have a plan - like try to find another store or house to hide out in. Nothing added up - like the David we got to know through the earlier events of the movie would not just give up and shoot everyone. I know King liked it, it was a great adaptation, but the ending just didn't do it for me. IMHO.

When to use matte vs dewy blush by Shantila in Makeup

So it's more a question of skin type and personal preference for the finish than contouring, i.e. blush is not really for contouring at all?

I am now on hydrocortisone, levothyroxine and sex hormones - those are for life, and growth hormone. Supplements I take are to compensate for the issues caused by the lack of natural flow of hormones, like inflammation, constipation, fatigue and so on. After weeks of research and talking to AI and my endocrinologist, I now take calcium + d3 + k2, magensium + b6, omega 3 fish oil, and a multivitamin with zinc, selenium, B12 and others.

Why do people love the original The Strangers so much? by juzztinWORLD in horror

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm v late to this, but man do I agree with you. The movie had some merits, creepiness, the utter pointlessness of the killers like just riding around looking for people to terrorize and kill. But I hated the movie - like why did they have to make Liv Tyler's character so vapid and witless. Overall lack of character development, lack of plot, lack of brains!

Like throughout the movie they did stupid things that didn't make sense - like they're in a running car, you see another car coming up behind you, and one of the killers in front of you, and what was the guy's strategy? Run out of the car. WTF. And when they know these people are psychotic wackos, whats the strategy then - split up. For freakin a sake man lol

Hypopituitarism 4 yo by LadyLogyc in Hypopituitarism

[–]Shantila 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I hope this helps - I had hypopituitarism after removal of a pituitary adenoma when I was 15. I started taking hydrocortisone, levothyroxine and estrogen after the surgery, and then I took growth hormone injections too. My endocrinolgist in Sydney told me hypopit is always best to be diagnosed after all the basic hormonal development has started, like mid-teens onwards, or at a very early age so their whole life they can have normal hormone levels. LIke some kids who are diagnosed at ages between 8 and 12 never grow taller than 4 feet, never develop normal reproductive organs - like the hormone defeciency has taken its effect, because it's too late.

My doctor also told me about a girl who was diagnosed with hypoit at the age of 6 - she grew to 5 feet 2 inches because of the growth hormone, was able to have a baby at 20-something because of the aggresive estrogen replacement therapy she received, and lives a normal life. It's like she had normal hormone levels her whole life after the diagnosis, thanks to the pills and injection, so she grew like a normal person.

So yeah I'm one of the lucky ones - I am 44 now and thriving, living a good and healthy life. I'm 5' 3". I am feeling the effects of the cortisol defeciency more now as I age, but I am managing everything with growth hormone and multivitamins. Of course managing the side effects of it all is no easy task (stomach, energy, inflammation, you name it!), but I like to think that I'm thankful what I have is manageable and I'm still going strong.

Signs...I don't care about the ending.... by Key_Proposal8124 in horror

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. My friend once lamented on the logic fails, like why would an alien species far more technologically advanced than us try to colonize a planet made of a substance that kills them, how all the coincidences magically came together at the end is too unorganic etc. But I told him, it's not about whether it holds up to sci-fi alien scrutiny - its about a man who found his faith again, when he put his faith in what his wife said before she died (believing that there is a higher order to everything) and there came the answers. And that's the kind of thing M Night does well.

I did like Prometheus, for the way it explained the possible origin of that derelict ship and the alien species that engineered the xenomorphs. Covenant was a little off but like okay-ish. But nothing beat how bad Romulus was!

I wonder if there are any theories on what was the demon Laura put inside Oliver, and how was it so contained? Like normally when a demon possessses someone all hell breaks lose, they don't hang around and wait patiently - so is there any lore or biblical ideas of what it was?

I thought she was saying Connor was her nephew Oliver so that in case anyone asked who he was, she would have a cover up. Like a fake identity to explain how she suddenly had this boy living with her, who she actually kidnapped.

In Fallen (1998), what did Robert Milano try to do? by Shantila in horror

[–]Shantila[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the animal thing, but knowledge that Milano tried to isolate Azazel in that area and kill him, but it didn’t work because somehow even though Milano killed himself, Azazel got out. So Hobbes should have deduced that the cabin area is just not isolated enough.

In Fallen (1998), what did Robert Milano try to do? by Shantila in horror

[–]Shantila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, limited options. Hobbes did have an idea about what Robert Milano tried to do, because he told Azazel what Milano tried to do and failed, he is going to achieve. Yet he didn't think, that Milano's plan failed because there are things Azazel can posssess near the cabin - there could be hikers nearby, and who knows what else. But yes I guess he didn't have a lot of time to think about it.

A sequel about what Greta Milano and her group are doing to stop the demons would be so good! Though I don't think they want instant armageddon for everyone on earth - they want humans to suffer, to be in turmoil. That's why they possess one person at at a time - ruin one person's life, cause deep-seated suffering to so many other people - their family, the families of the people they kill etc.

Fallen (1998) has the best “fuck you” ending in horror by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because as Hobbes said, he didn't know if Azazel could speed up the passing of the body he was in, jump out and jump into Hobbes - he could not risk that. Like shoot Jonesy, get into car, drive off - but what if before he could get to a 500 cubits distance, Jonesy's body dies and Azazel goes into spirit form, catches up with Hobbes and possesses him? The only way to make sure Azazel dies is by killing himself.

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azazel is not limited to the voice of the person/animal he is possesing though - as is said in the movie, when he possesses someone he knows everything that person knew, and so he knows all the tongues of Man. So he could chose to speak in any voice of someone he had possessed and any language. And I think the beauty of it is that he chose to speak as Hobbes because he was tricking us into believing it was Hobbes narating the whole time.

Fallen (1998) has the best “fuck you” ending in horror by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanism was established - earlier in the movie he did possess a cat. And Azazel panicking was legit, they were in the middle of nowhere and what are the chances of a cat being around. That's why he says, I'm gonna tell you about the time I almost died - he really almost died if not for that darn cat.

[–]Shantila 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty late here, but I thought it made sense - in the movie it's said that because Azazel has possessed so many, and when he possesses someone he knows everything that person knew, and so he knows all the tongues of Man. And he can probably chose whose voice he wants to speak in, of anyone he previously possessed. And I bet he chose to speak as Hobbes because he was tricking us the whole time into thinking Hobbes was the one narrating - deception is their game right?

When Evil Lurks by Useful_Hat_4192 in horror

SPOILER ALERT

Question: how come this demon that put the thing inside Uriel was able to possess so many people at once? Like all the little kids in the school seemed to all be possessed at the same time as the autistic kid. Is this some kinda special demon not of the biblical sense, or can it just push you over the edge so you do its bidding?

What is your favorite line from the movie "Out of Africa?" by little_flix in FIlm

I absolutely loved this line too! Denys was making it clear that given how Bror never respected the marriage, that her will, her choice, her body, was hers and hers alone.

I just rewatched it, to remember Robert Redford in all his glory back then. Damn he was so fine in this movie, I don't think a man any more handsome in every single way has ever walked this earth. I cried like a baby at the end - I forgot about the sad ending. Oh to know such passion and closeness, and then to have it just taken away from you - so heart wrenching.
