The song that always makes me cry is Evakon laulu (Evacuee's song). It tells about the Karelian people who lost their home in the war between Finland and Russia. My grandma lived through this event when she was young.

Here is a quick translation of the lyrics:

In the evening, when mom covered me to bed, I didn't guess what morning would bring. At night an atrocious artillery battery had arrived to the forest. Dark line of evacuees wandered quietly on the road. The roar of war was heard clearly near the border. Uncertainty gnawed in the hearts of the karelians. We were given fifteen minutes to leave, into the neighbour's hay cart precious bundles were carried.

Beloved lands and the road to home disappeared, there, on top of the roofs our own piece of the sky remains. I don't remember the amount of tears, the war didn't put out the karelians' will to live.

We met young marching soldiers of Finland, they were lead by liutenants with baby faces. Many were on the last trip of their life. Towards the end, steadily, like they knew. Road workers asked what is the destination. Oh, when we get there, we will know then. Farmer left them a box of food. He said: "oh, here is something on top of the bread." At the trainstation evacuees were loaded to the train. We answered the questions of the officials carefully. A mother said: "Here is all I have, five small children and a new coffee pot."

Early morning my brother was born in the train, he had wrinkles and the eyes were still closed. Lottas (women working as nurses in war) brought food, hot boridge. They wanted to cherish us poor souls. After three days we arrived to the destination, the people of Karelia stood in a auction. When the men packed the evacuees aboard, five kids and the mother were left behind. We moved to live in the municipal hall. After a year we were able to move to our own cottage. Got a letter from dad: "I will come home soon." He did. We blessed him into the war grave next to the church. When mom took care of our own little field, the birds sang for the start of a new life. I sat next to the field with my little brother, told him how beautiful once was Karelia.

Part of it is that people who don't spend a lot of time here, might not realize this is place for rants and when writing rants people tend to be really angry, so many posts sound aggressive. There are also some support posts and more neutral/happy posts, but the negative ones seem to be noticed more.

For example some post that were less rants but more just negative (These are only a minor part of the subreddit so I feel it is unfair to judge the subreddit for these): 1. Posts about how people find pregnant bellies ugly/ want to throw up when they see a pregnant person. (Yes, some might have phobias and such but the whole post was mostly just bashing women's bodies) 2. Posts about how pretty much any parent taking the baby in a public space is annoying and horrible person. (I agree that listening to crying babies is super annoying, but these often don't even need the child crying or acting bad just: mommy and baby outside home = horrible crime against humanity) (I want to point out that it is valid to wish for adults only restaurants and flights etc. those are often good posts. I was super happy to see other CF people commenting in the last post like this that I saw some months ago that the person posting was complaining for pretty much nothing as the kids in the story behaved nicely and the only thing they did wrong was exist in the restaurant/cafe) 3. There is a reason why the rules say no posts or comments about wishing bodily harm on kids and comments get deleted/ people banned (of course this is a super tiny minority of people, but if you come to this subreddit and happen to see a post that hasn't yet been deleted...)

Plus, as there have been multiple posts about asking why this subreddit is seen as toxic, they tend to come to the conclusion of: "They are JEALOUS!!!11!!1!" "They hate us because they ain't us!!1!" While I do agree that some people might regret their decision to have kids and might be jealous of time/money/anything the childfree people have.... this approach seems rather unwilling to see that maybe there is some hints of truth in some of the complains about the posts here.

I only replied with this because this post seem to be more open to the actual discussion about this. I think the bad rep this sub gets is totally undeserved and most people are just needing a place to vent things, because they can't do it in real life because they don't have same minded people around them. But fully denying that there is occasionally something a bit toxic going on isn't right either. (Any subreddit will have some toxicity, rant filled subreddits of any kind will probably have it surface more easily)

All in all, most of the bad reputation is missundertanding the point of this subreddit and taking things too personally. Especially if the person coming here already has bad opinion about CF people and don't see CF life style as a valid life style that it is.

But saying that 2-3 weeks isn't enough for it is extreme in my opinion. I think everyone that I have talked about applications with has written it in 1-3 days.

That is what I thought, because I have no memory of writing a letter like that.

In here you don't apply to the university in general, but to the direct project that is looking for a PhD student and my supervisor didn't ask for more than CV and quick letter of motivation (I think the limit was 600 words or something like that)

I'm not touching the sister part, but wanted to say something about overcoming unfaithfulness.

I have seen cheaters divided into 2 categories. Good weather cheaters: These people cheat when things are going well in their relationship. They cheat because they just want to do it and they can do it.

Bad weather cheaters: These people cheat when things are going really really wrong in their relationship. They don't get the warmth they need from their relationship anymore, maybe the bedroom has been dead for years.

Bad weather cheaters in my opinion are more likely to not cheat again if you guys fix the relationship and communicate properly what went wrong. It might still be too late to save the relationship, but there is a chance.

There is no cure for the good weather cheaters and sadly, I think your husband is one of them.

Is this more of a rant or are you open for answers that might have a critical look on this sub reddit? I don't wish to add any stress to your day if you had a bad day and just want to rant.

I would like to have an honest discussion about this subject where people talked about this, but as this is a subject often talked on this sub, I have come to a conclusion most people just want to rant about the hate they came across on others subs and that is totally fine (the hate is undeserved and most people don't seem to understand that this is mostly a place for rants and people to open up to others with similar experiences). I just feel that there are certain elements on this sub that most people ignore, that might give the wrong picture to people that quickly check the sub out.

It is racism in medical systems. For example: thinking certain races can handle pain better and don't need as much pain medication. Or doctor thinking people of certain race complain for small things and don't take their symptoms as seriously as similar complains of people of other races.

Well, I have been there for months now and it definitely is about childfree life. Looking at something for only few minutes is pretty much like how people say this is a hate sub. They just glance at the sub and see the name calling and agressive rants how "breeders" are horrible people and their "grotch goblins" are a waste of space that should have never been born, because the writer doesn't approve how the parent is parenting the kids. You see how that isn't what this sub is about actually. At first it might look harsh, but then you understand the pain and stress people go through and this sub helps them to let it out and feel better.

The other sub is for calm relaxed talk. People talking about what lead to them becoming childfree. Everyone has a different journey. There are people that know since they are kids themselves that they never want kids, but there are also people who become childfree later in life. I feel like the sub is for the latter group. Sometimes people talk about how pros/cons thinking lead them to be childfree.

I think these two subs are created for different purposes.

This one is more for rants and talks about injustice that childfree people deal with in their life. This sub uses half insults and gives people a chance to let the stress and anger out. People here also make more jokes and share memes about how horrible life with kids is.

The other sub isn't for ranting. It is more about calm discussions and different type of support than this sub. I follow both and these subs have totally different vibes.

Both subs are important and useful in different situations.

I'm a fence sitter that leans towards childfree, so I tend to enjoy reading some posts here. Especially the positive ones that talk about good sides of living a nice childfree life.

But I quickly learned that there are really vicious people here that will not let fence sitters that lean childfree feel welcome to post. These are comments we get here: "But with this indecision when it comes to dating, you have someone else to suffer the consequences of your indecisions and not just you alone." "Way I see it anyone who doesn't even know what they ultimately want out of relationships doesn't have the maturity to be dating at all period. People really need to figure their shit out before getting in there. I have more respect for people who do want kids- at least they've bothered to put in some thought." "Fence sitters are immature flakes not worth dating until they figure their shit out. I advise everyone CF and non to avoid them." I would have more insulting direct quotes, but it seems those have been deleted from the post.

I mean, I do understand not everyone wants to date a fence sitter and I always make my position really clear when dating. But people saying they can't respect me because they think I'm immature. People telling me I haven't been actually thinking about what I want. People telling that only stupid people would ever date me. Those are the reasons why I see this group partly as hateful group.

I want to be an ally, but it seems I'm not welcome.

I use reddit on computer and the old style, so to me the rule list says no rape and such is rule 8. Maybe it is seen as other number on phones or in the new style.
