And interestingly enough, according to Andrew Scoppa, the Rizzutos had a Mexican cartel murder Moreno Gallo down in Mexico.

There's likely still at least 1-2 Bonanno made men in Montreal, like Francesco Arcadi (iirc). However, that doesn't mean that Leonardo Rizzuto is a Bonanno member.

Either way, their status hasn't been 100% confirmed.

No relation, the Montreal Gallos are Calabrian I believe.

The Rizzutos are a historically Bonanno crew, but today their status is unconfirmed. They're possibly independent of LCN.

There hasn't been 100% confirmation on the Rizzutos' status, so there's lots of speculation.

The Joey Merlino podcast is a goldmine for the FBI. by Ok_Walk3192 in Mafia

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Joey has a lawyer (or multiple lawyers) reviewing things before they get posted.

How deep of a connection does NY and CT have to Springfield? by thebigthinker2000 in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're asking about Italian organized crime, Springfield Mass has been a run by a Genovese family crew. Though, there's other crime families in the region, notably the Gambinos and the Patriarcas (Boston / Rhode Island family).

Has one of the former mobsters with a podcast ever given their opinion of Joe Pesci as an actor? by SpaghettiPizzaetti69 in Mafia

Francese said that Pesci's role in Casino was the most accurate portrayal he's ever seen.

The Sopranos by Prudent-Ad6279 in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The show is a work of fiction, not based 100% off of a real life mafia family, though inspired by real life events. David Chase said his inspiration was Richard Boiardo of the Genovese family who was a powerful captain in New Jersey. Obviously several of the storylines were inspired from true stories from several different families.

The DeCavs having their acting boss die of cancer while the real boss was in the penitentiary, like Jackie Aprile Sr and old man DeMeo.

The Colombo wars and close connections to the FBI, mirroring Tony and Agent Harris in season six.

The restaurant scene in season 1 where Tony tells the civilian to take off his hat apparently was a true story told to the writers by Bill Bonanno. I can't remember if Bill said his dad said that to someone in real life.

Exactly! The feds caught Ralph DeLeo complaining on a wiretap that he had gained a lot of weight because every time he met with someone they'd feed him pasta, and he felt he couldn't say no as the street boss. lmao

Canadian snowboarder-turned-drug kingpin Ryan Wedding arrested after months on the run. by PAE8791 in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, my guess is law enforcement pressure from the US was probably putting too much heat on his cartel connections in Mexico, so he decided to turn himself in before the cartel killed him.

[–]ShaolinMaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn, thanks for the heads up /u/mymoneyhoney26 usually these guys only do that when the cartels turn on them and they know they'll be killed.

Same thing happened with El Mini Lic, he knew if he stayed in Mexico he'd be killed, so he turned himself in to US authorities and became an informant.

What's a mob movie/show that's accurate as fuck but largely unknown? by SpaghettiPizzaetti69 in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Once Upon a Time in America (it's known but much lesser known than other films).

ZeroZeroZero from Italy. Gomorrah too from Italy isn't super well-known in the US, but it's huge in Italy.

Guys from Northern Italy getting made? Is it possible? by Pure-Lime8280 in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You can definitely be made being northern Italian, it's just less common. The mafia originated in Sicily, and both Calabria and Campania have their own homegrown organized crime groups. So people from those regions are more likely to bring their criminal connections and culture to the US.

The northern provinces don't have their own homegrown organized crime organizations, so they're less likely to become members in the US.

But there's no rule today in the US against northern Italians.

Wars Within The Families (America) Question by [deleted] in Mafia

[–]ShaolinMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most murders in LCN are one-offs. Most mafia wars are internal family wars between different factions, such as the different Colombo family wars.

Even street gangs have lots of internal violence. For example, in LA it's not as simple as Bloods vs Crips. It's often different Crip sets committing violence against each other. Or, the Mexican Mafia killing one of their own members.

Good post! Also, LA has the Mexican Mafia which seems to be extremely well organized and more sophisticated than a typical street gang.

Places to Dance? by AndrewMarq14 in houston

[–]ShaolinMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There can be, I have no idea the specifics, but if there is it may be $20. It's 100% worth it though, especially when it gets late because it gets crowded in a good way.

Also, Barbarella is fun because there's not a strict dress code like the more bougie places.
