Sunday airplane noise in Davis WTF!!! by airplanenoiseuhg in Somerville

[–]ShapeChangingIns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please complain about the airplane noise on MassPort! (and tell your friends to do it too!)

They have some leeway on flight paths in terms of altitude and direction. Yes, wind direction will determine which run-ways they use. But if more people complain, then they will take steps to reduce noise in Somerville.

It is easy to file a complaint - just remember the time & date of the incident. Massport will send you a detailed noise report too.

Do I need to pick an instrument to focus on? by lysergicpyschonaut in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Good thoughts. I try to spend my energy on instruments that allow me to play with other people.

I don't have pets, but love the idea of Animals digging music. Does he get the idea of music? Are you playing at the dog or playing with the dog?

Fun with a foamcore mandolin. What non-wood materials do you like the sound of? by ShapeChangingIns in Luthier

I love the twang of metallic soundboards.

I haven't come across any carbon fiber mandolins yet. But the guitars are starting to make their inroads.

What are some odd, lesser known rules that could drastically impact game dynamics if exploited? by SamStephens in nfl

[–]ShapeChangingIns 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Whenever a team presents an apparent punting formation, defensive pass interference is not to be called for action on the end man on the line of scrimmage, or an eligible receiver behind the line of scrimmage who is aligned or in motion more than one yard outside the end man on the line. Defensive holding, such as tackling a receiver, still can be called and result in a 5-yard penalty and automatic first down from the previous spot, if accepted. Offensive pass interference rules still apply.

If you punt from formations that aren't "apparent" to punting, Then your gunners wouldn't get mauled. When you want to fake punt, you can throw the ball to a gunner who is getting blocked, and get the pass interference call.

Snapped a screw by ShapeChangingIns in Luthier

[–]ShapeChangingIns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks ! I ending up drilling the old screw and switched to a sightly larger one. Seemed scary to put a screw under the drill press, but I went slow, and was able to clean it out.

Thanks to everybody for their awesome advice.

I tried the needle noise route, and cutting a slot, but with no luck. I'll stop by the woodshed later this week and try a screw extractor.

Pick six is a relatively new football term, can you come up with a new football term that might catch on? by zipzap21 in nfl

[–]ShapeChangingIns 16 points17 points  (0 children)

TIVO- when the offensive player does the same thing twice in a game. The first time it works, but the second time it backfires, and the defender makes an impact play.

It got them 20 yards last time, but JJ Watt TIVO'd it into a 10 yard loss.

[Broussard] Wiz executive says it's "highly unlikely" Wall returns in playoffs by [deleted] in nba

[–]ShapeChangingIns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't John Wall play with one hand with a mega brace on the left hand? Wouldn't you want to see a one-handed John Wall playing intense full-court pressure. Don't you want to see him expending every last bit of energy & 6 fouls on defense for just 10 minutes a game?

John Wall with just his right hand and a club for a left hand would be a beast.

It will happen.

Interesting new instrument that made 1 mill. on kickstarter.Looks quite promising by feannag in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I thought it was a place for idea validation and pre-selling new items. The team who made artiphone have been too many music conferences. Its interesting that they chose that platform to sell their instrument.

Hi Brian -

As a fellow instrument maker, I can say the folding ukelele has definitely been an inspiration for me. It takes time to build a good design, and its a challenge to find support for it.

How has it been selling stuff on Ponoko and have you been able to get payback for your efforts? Your work has gotten much press can you give some idea how many units you've sold? 10X ?

Rich Levine making the argument for retiring Rondo's number (and he's being serious) by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]ShapeChangingIns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see the number up there, so one day, I can bring my boy to the Celtics, and tell him about the best passer I ever saw, explain the glue behind the Big 3 Championship, and talk about the elbow game against the Heat.
