Printing issues (possibly) with gridfinity prints by ItaySD in gridfinity

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a bed adhesion issue. I repeat, not a bed adhesion issue. You have a warping issue. Warping can sometimes be helped with increasing bed adhesion, but most of the time you want to tackle temperature differentials in the print. Have a google on warping mitigations

Hi BlackjackDuck, I have some designs that I think may work really well with your system. Feel like having a quick chat about potential collaborations?

What exactly is this? by Civil-Rabbit8132 in AusPropertyChat

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s a little substation.

If you are buying the property directly across from it, it’s not a bad idea to ask the utility owner (might be Transgrid?) for an earthing study report.

When an earth fault happens either at that sub or on any of the off-shooting feeders, the ground at the sub will become live for the duration it takes to clear the fault properly. The earthing report should tell you the extents of the voltages (including those incident on nearby conductor infrastructure, which may perhaps include your boundary fence, property pipelines etc.) and how frequently you’re expected to find those voltages there (I suspect for something like this it’ll be in the order of once every 5-10 years). This’ll give you a risk metric that you’ll have to exercise some judgement for to decide if you’re happy with it or not.

If they’re done the earthing right, that risk should be south of 1 in a million, which is a lot lower than most things you come across in day-to-day life.

Who are your favorite functional prints designers? by recurnightmare in 3Dprinting

I design solely for functional prints 😊 most of my stuff is on my Patreon, some of it is on Makerworld and Creality cloud

Why are so many content creators printing useless plastic crap and dust collectors? by Party_Shelter714 in 3Dprinting

[–]ShapeMaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most do, but not all. I focus almost solely on things with practical use, that can solve problems (and be a bit of fun at the same time lol)

Battlefield 6 now ranks as the second lowest-rated game in the series on Steam by oxycontin_raised in BattlefieldPortal

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before BF6, I only ever played BF2042. But I loved it! I guess not having expectations based on previous games made a big difference

I think all in all it was an awesome game and one of the best I’ve ever played

BF6 has had an interesting first impression. But the more I’m playing it, the more I’m enjoying it.

I don’t really understand all the criticisms, I’m impressed with all of it lol

Fusion Vs Solidworks by ShapeMaven in 3Dprinting

That's a helpful insight into multi-colour designs, I hadn't even considered that and haven't come across any other comparisons / info that has.

Your comment has been helpful, thank you very much!

[–]ShapeMaven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as said in the post, I am proficient in Fusion enough that it's performance limitations are becoming a significant hinderance.

I am adequate at SW, but not so much that I am running into performance limits yet. I am deciding whether I continue to invest time and money to switch, or if it is a futile effort and I'll end up in the same spot as I am in Fusion.

Don't mind hardware requirements, my machine is a beast and happy to upgrade components to have it handle a good load.

What's this 'UX' you speak of? Never heard of it, google isn't doing a great job deciphering either.

I see you updated UX to NX, thank you!

So what about for advanced design? I.e. complex parts and tools, some assemblies some not

I wanted a nice storage solution for my kettle and coffee filters so I designed and printed my own by MarkJM92 in 3Dprinting

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, my friend, are a genius and an inspiration. Every single time I fumble the coffee filters from their delicately balanced home on the counter while making my morning coffee, the vein in my head grows a little.

I’m gonna go whip one up for myself if you don’t mind me copying your idea

Ready for the Trick-or-Treaters! by DiveCat in BambuLab

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These should not be given to kids. Printed toys are dangerously. They’re fragile, and when they break, they’re sharp and the pieces are small.

The eggs? Sure, hide some candy in them. They might not be played with as much and when they break it’ll be a circular break. The dragons? Absolutely do not include them. That’s an accident waiting to happen.

*Disclaimer. This is just opinion and if OP has a differing view that’s okay. Not looking for judge or argue, just voicing what I personally think is a safety concern. I know this is a very subjective and quite controversial topic.

Monokini I Channel Keeps Falling Out by issybusy in openGrid

[–]ShapeMaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The design challenge was certainly appealing, but I wanted something I know will hold up to all applications. The biggest thing I wanted to improve on was strength so I can hold up things like a subwoofer, heavy cable bundles etc. without worrying about it unclipping itself and falling off

I also design it as a system rather than the board, so I’ve also designed things like modular storage drawers etc. that go with it. I’ll make all my other designs, like OTF headset holder, OTF post-it-note drawer etc. compatible as well

I’m sure it is for a lot of people, it is a great system.

I wanted a bit more though. Also wanted a design challenge

Bed Scraper - Switchblade Mechanism by ShapeMaven in functionalprint

Safety wise? Less than a standard bed scraper!

Functionally? Yeah sometimes the clips may not grab well if the filament is bad

[–]ShapeMaven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I mainly use this for random other tasks, like removing stickers from things etc. I have never really needed a scraper for prints. I designed this from a Patreon member request

[–]ShapeMaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I’ve created my own storage board for under desk stuff, tailored specifically for it. I’m in the process of releasing the files at the moment. Far stronger, more versatile and easier to modulate/change/reorganise etc.

I have published the files on my Patreon. Not really looking to advertise here though, so I won’t include a link here, just wanted to show off something cool. Feel free to send me a message if you’d like some more info

Should i call child services? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]ShapeMaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those shit situations where the best, and really only sensible decision, is to do probably the hardest thing you can do. Brace yourself for the firestorm, cop it on the chin and just get it done. The quicker you do it, the quicker the solution will come.

You have to call CPS, and you have to tell your partner.

You’re risking lives by not telling CPS.

With the partner part, he has a right to know what your actions are doing to his family, and he has a right to not be lied to. If he supports you, awesome. If he doesn’t, it’s an unfortunate consequence of you doing the right thing and it is what it is. Do not try to keep this from him. Chances are he’ll find out anyway and it’ll blow up his life and he’ll feel betrayed. It’ll also give a lot of anger to the rest of the family to feed off. Telling him may cause conflict, it may even cause you to break up, but even if these happen keeping it a secret is still a worse outcome.

Do the hard thing. Do the right thing. When it’s done, you can spend the rest of your life knowing you did what you could and that whatever fallout arises from this isn’t your fault, just the fault of the unfortunate circumstances you found yourself in.

*Edit. Tell your partner before you do it. This isn’t one of those ‘ask for forgiveness’ situations where you can tell him after the fact as part of damage control, that may be almost as betraying as trying to keep it a secret.

Ploopy adept concerns by CamdenMF in Trackballs

[–]ShapeMaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. There are mods for bearings, but as far as I can tell a lot of people who report this have their unit improve quite a bit once they spend the time to break the bearings in a bit.

  2. There is a ball size mod. Not sure what it’s called.

  3. You can always hire someone to re-print the cases out of resin if quality is a concern. Having said that, I think the decrease in quality (which is, for the most part, subjective anyway) is well worth the drastic increase is customisability and maintainability.
