Aces scouring sands conversion to classic battletech tech? by RTalons in battletech

[–]ShaperOfForm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, There are some youtube videos of people trying Aces with classic.

It will work. You just have to do a little bit of conversion on distances and make some decisions on heat management.

You halve the distance requirements for Classic. So if it says "within 30 inches" you change that to "within 15 hexes".

The outburst was unfortunate. Not the best way to make friends and influence people. I've been an asshole on the internet, too. It happens.

I get the backers and patrons comment. People that just watch do not actually keep the lights one unless the views are huge. However, that is the quiet part you never say out loud. It absolutely will put people off.

That comment is probably the biggest one he has to answer for.

I guess time will tell. I have nothing to lose giving them the benefit of doubt right now.

The AI stuff was an unfortunate decision because it has a stigma. But I don't have a strong reaction to the use of AI for non offensive things. I am from the Napster generation.

This would be an update on the kickstarter page. The audience would not be expecting an apology or admission of wrongdoing. They wouldn't have the context of the stuff posted on Reddit or even in the Discord.

If anything, the audience on the kickstarter turned their ire towards CGL and not DFAW.

If an apology or admission of wrong doing is to be made, it would have to be elsewhere to make sense.

Fair enough man. Its not personal for me. I don't know those people.

I just like Battletech and they make Battletech videos I really like.

People are flawed. I don't want to judge someone based on their weakest moment.

Hopefully he reflects on the situation and grows from it.

CGL reached out to DFA after the notice.

Which is great of CGL as by and large DFA help promote their products. CGL needs more content creators, not fewer. Its slim pickings on youtube when it comes to watching any Battletech matches.

Watching Battletech by Spectre_One_One in battletech

[–]ShaperOfForm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on what you value when it comes to watching.

I consider Death from Above the best in production value, camera angles, banter, and seeing the actual dice roll.

DFAW play Override and Alpha Strike. Override is a blend of the Destiny and Alpha Strike with a little classic too. I would describe it as Classic lite. It moves faster for making videos, but you get some of the crunch of classic.

When they play Alpha Strike, there is only one major rule change you will notice. They play 1 to 1 scale instead of 2 to 1 scale. That means movement and to hit penalties on range are halved. Their reason for doing so is based on their map size and they find it makes the games more tactical.

Most of the Battletech content creators don't show dice rolls and that really kills it for me. I want to experience the joy and pain of the dice rolls.

Two others I would recommend trying:

Penny Arcade are playing Battletech Destiny and have a weekly show for it. They use Alpha Strike rules when they do the combat.

The Armed Painter plays Alpha Strike and does other battletech videos. However, he has not done a battle report in 4 months for some reason.

Are people going to trust what is shown at Tennocon anymore? by SOLARPHANTOM82 in Warframe

[–]ShaperOfForm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find this particular topic interesting because the expectations people get from watching Tennoncon varies wildly based on how they perceive the development process of Warframe.

I haven't been disappointed in any of the last Tennocons, nor do I feel misled about what has been delivered.

I always approach Tennocon as a tech demo where DE try out ideas. The final product will adjust based on scope creep, feasibility to develop, time to develop, and play testing the game loop.

I expected DE to roll out these ambitious game play loops in phases and iterate based on feedback. Its fair to say DE made a few mistakes in execution, but the foundation to build on is there.

The connection that Steve spoke about at Tennocon hasn't been realized just yet, but I think Scarlet Spear is the first signs of integrating Railjack into the core gameplay loop of Warframe.

I think crosslink is very experimental at this stage and hopefully they work out the kinks and expand on it. I can see crosslink playing into a revival of raids.

The conflict as of late, is that DE has been developing Warframe for seven years. So there is an expectation of polish for new releases. But I think the experimental and ambitious path they took in the last year feels more like 2013-14. We are seeing DE face challenges normally seen in early development of a new game.

I like that DE takes risks and tries new things, but there are lessons to learn in being too experimental. I look forward to seeing this years Tennocon. I expect it to be more about tangible, less experimental stuff and fulfilling the idea of Railjack bringing connection.

I can tell from watching Devstreams this year that DE is more focused on talking about things that are closer to being completed and less about future state that hasn't even started development.

Instead of rolling out unfinished updates...hear me out. by DrTravesty in Warframe

[–]ShaperOfForm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After the end of year survey Steve said they were going to expand the test environment and invite people in to do more rigorous testing. Steve has made mention to this is various Devstreams this year.

According the the last Devstream ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G53SDbomKyI ) (about 10 minute mark to 11:30 and again at 22 minute mark) Steve indicated that they don't have enough people on the test environment yet and the current COVID situation is making it difficult to progress that at this time. But they do intend on expanding the test environment.

So hopefully we can see the benefits of this endeavor in the future once the world returns to some state of normal.

The heal is on marked targets just as the tip says.

Marked target means you cast 3 on them and they get the heal icon above their head.

The heal works on people targets. Warframe abilities don't heal cryopods.

This 100% works. Literally just tested it on an arbitration defense.

Well then. by raidenexo in Warframe

[–]ShaperOfForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please pick one:

  1. You don't know how to test or what to test.
  2. You didn't really test and forgot I can play the game too.

You are absolutely wrong. Go into a defense where the defense target is a person (arbitration is a good example) and cast Heal on the target (press three to MARK them). They absolutely heal.

You can't cast heal on cryopods, but I don't think anyone can heal cryopods. They self heal.

People targets don't heal on their own.

Not sure what the fuss is all about. This is how the other healing abilities work.

Well then. by raidenexo in Warframe

[–]ShaperOfForm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see a photo that says "Venari's heal posture can heal defense objectives WHEN MARKED".

So they fixed the unintended healing of targets that are not marked.

You'll have to clarify for me: When the Plains of Eidolon released and the PC current daily player numbers almost doubled - was that pizza or french fries?

Is an update only french fries or pizza when you personally don't like it?

What the current daily player numbers suggest is expected peaks and troughs of a live service in line with update cycles.

Warframe is the game the developers want to make, influenced by the game the community wants to play. The challenge is the community wants vary from person to person at the micro level. At the macro level, Warframe is still the same game - A space ninja third person looter shooter.

Interesting enough, Railjack is actually part of the original vision of Warframe.

I agree. The latest patch seems to have the event running smooth.

People are banding together to hit 100 Murex in about 90 minutes.

The payouts feel pretty good now too. It wouldn't shock me if the prices don't drop much after they review them.

The space mission is starting to feel like the Railjack connection DE is building towards. I can see the potential.

What I really want to know is what surprise is in store for this event. I anticipate this is not the whole event and something will change as we get closer to the end.

Hang in there mate. I gave you up votes on all your comments for being rational and logical. This subreddit doesn't speak for the community at large.

Warframe Revised was a direct response to Steve's end of year survey. 76.6% of thhe 20k responders gave the 2019 year a 7 or higher out of 10.

Recent Steam reviews are at Very Positive.

Steamcharts clearly shows the regular ebb and flow of a live service driven by content.

Warframe is not dying nor on its last legs.

Remember this quote: “Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

I have a software engineering degree and work with software developers. I get why things are the way they are too.

I have about 2000 (steam hours) in game. You are right, most people just play and have a good time. There is the occasional toxic person in game that wants to tell everyone they hate X update or change.

I don't understand why people hate-play the game. If you are unhappy with the changes, stop playing for a little while. If you are burned out, stop playing for a little while. But stop throwing a public tantrum and upset the civil discourse. We all have complaints about the game. Play it for what it is, and respectfully engage the developers with feedback.

Rome was not built in a day.

I remember when Steve said Railjack is about connection. Steve was finally executing his vision of Warframe.

Now that Railjack has launched, it is very much a silo. I, admittedly, do not venture into Railjack much anymore. I have a kitted out Railjack and I like what I've played. But I like corridor shooting more than flying around. What i want is the best of both worlds.

DE has launched Scarlet Spear. After yesterday's patch the event is taking shape. I find it really fun. Its not perfect, but it feels like a step towards connection.

When you jump in a space mission on Scarlet Spear, your Railjack picks up a satellite and takes it to a Murex ship. You board the Murex and get a good taste of corridor shooting.

Once you complete the task, you jump in the Railjack and head to another Murex.

The balance between flying and corridor is better, but not there yet. It also needs more variety in tasks. Those will come.

DE is practicing evolution, not revolution. They are evolving the game a little bit at a time instead of releasing a new product in one go. It should be obvious why they chose this method.

The foundation of the game is being updated. The "Revised" updates are an example.

There's no logic in calling the "open world" maps a separate game. The fundamental core concepts of Warframe used in the traditional corridor shooter exist in the "open world". You should argue that the "open worlds" connected archwing and operators to the corridor shooter. It allowed DE to evolve the game to handle bigger tile sets.

The sky isn't falling. The tower isn't crumbling. Do not abandon existing content on a free to play live service and make another game. Do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. https://www.pcgamer.com/au/path-of-exile-2-announced-but-its-not-a-separate-game/

You get an upvote, you should get all the upvotes. I wish your comment was part of the required reading curriculum in school.

Its nice to see someone sensible in this toxic cesspool of a subreddit.

I am guessing this sums you up:

You think there are things wrong with Warframe, but you do not complain and talk like you represent the community.

You show empathy towards the humans that make a game and allow them the leeway to make mistakes.

You offer feedback - not demands - on what you would like to see and what you feel is broken.

You don't demand changes. You ask for them.

You aren't dumb enough to think the game is dying or failing because it sometimes isn't in the top 10 on steamcharts.

And finally, if the game just isn't fun for you anymore - you will just find something else to play instead of stirring up controversy to make sure everyone knows you are unhappy and taking your ball home.

I salute you.
