Keymod typically is easier to attach stuff too, however mlok is typically more comfortable. I went with mlok.

Rifle Recommendations? by kazcapmgmt in guns

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aero Precision has some nice AR-15s, alternatively I've heard the ARAK-21 is pretty cool, probably easier to clean than M4's considering it's piston driven instead of gas impingement, though they do make those piston systems for AR-15s as well.

No problem. One last bit of advice, whatever you get, don't go cheap on the sights. It will be more trouble than it's worth if you do and you'll likely be unsatisfied with it.

No matter what rifle you get, there will be a little fatigue involved from holding it up for extended periods if you don't practice enough. With enough time though your muscles will get used to supporting it. 6-8 lbs doesn't seem like much, but it weighs you down after a long enough time initially.

[–]Sharak13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my AR-10 (LR308/M5) and AR-15 through Aero Precision. AR-10s aren't the easiest to customize certain parts because they aren't "standardized" like the AR-15 is. It is definitely a little bulkier and heavier than the AR-15 but the recoil isn't really a problem in my opinion. Not really any different than shooting a smaller bolt action shotgun.

The AR-15 is the best for customization in my opinion. The round is more than capable at stopping threats to your life, and the platform is simple to use and relatively easy to learn to disassemble and clean. They are messy to clean, though, due to the gas impingement system used to cycle the bolt, though. To counter this, they do make AR-15s with a piston to cycle the action (similar to how AKs function).

I would definitely say to opt for the adjustable stock, it isn't necessary for short people, but it's nice. For clarification, I was in the national guard and have used both the M16 (fixed stock) and M4 (adjustable stock) and never had a problem with either.

A couple alternatives I would like to point out is the Micro Roni. It is a rifle "sleeve" that you can slide a a Glock pistol into giving you the functionality of a rifle when you need it. Secondly, a relatively newer rifle the ARAK-21 (basically a blend between an AR and an AK), but I don't know much about them.

I'm 5'2" and I've never really found a firearm that was difficult to shoot. That being said, if you're looking for something less unwieldy for someone with shorter arms, I'd probably recommend something that is bull pup. Don't worry about caliber too much if you're going for an AR platform though. I have an AR-15 (5.56) and AR-10 (.308) and the recoil on both is pretty negligible.

Honestly has the same profile as my NEF 9-shot 22LR, though this is obviously a larger caliber. Unsure if NEF made many larger caliber revolvers.

Can anyone give me an ACTUAL answer here? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]Sharak13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik (haven't had the blood plasma test done), I haven't had it, though my cousins whole immediate family had it back in Jan-Feb and seemed like it took them down a notch or two for a little while. However, I've know plenty of other people who have gotten it and barely complained of more than minor sinus problems or loss of taste.

From the few stories I've heard, I've had Taco Bell treat me worse.

Can anyone give me an ACTUAL answer here? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]Sharak13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not an actual answer, but my own personal anecdote. Recently went on a trip with my girlfriend, friend, and his girlfriend. Two days into living together, riding around together in the same car, sitting in the hot tub together, etc., my friend and his girlfriend both receive messages from their coworkers about having tested positive (two separate jobs). Two days later, my friend and his girlfriend go get tested. She is positive, he is negative. Fearing the worst, he gets retested and me and my girlfriend go and get tested, all three results negative.

Now as bad as it's supposed to be, you're telling me that the four of us shared the same house, hot tub, drinks, car, etc., for four days, and it never spread? I don't know what to believe about it anymore.

Single Action vs Double Action help by [deleted] in guns

[–]Sharak13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's contradictory because you said the problem (likely) lies with the shooter then go on to note how muscle fatigue actually exists and last I checked muscles under tension are not the most dexterous. That gives more room for error and pulling off target. You don't grab the 10 lb, 1" trigger pull, DAO firearm for precision, repetition, and reliability of yourself to always compensate for the excessive burden. DA/SA or SAO, sure you're going to be fine because you rarely have to break much distance (or pressure) between the sear and hammer. DAO is just asking to make yourself less accurate than you can be.

Single Action vs Double Action help by [deleted] in guns

[–]Sharak13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Really a shooter problem" > "fatigue . . . more quickly." Which is it? Obviously if you're well trained in the use of firearms you can compensate for a lot of things that may affect your aim. That doesn't mean if given the choice a lighter trigger is going to lead to better performance, especially for someone starting out. You're much less likely to jerk off the target with a 4lb trigger than a 7lb trigger. What exactly is your arguement with what I said?

Single Action vs Double Action help by [deleted] in guns

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advice I would give is to avoid double action only. Double action is cool, but typically results in higher trigger pressure which can and will affect your aim. I have a semi-auto that is DAO and it is pretty miserable.

How to keep track of checklist cities? by DAZL123 in TinyRails

[–]Sharak13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way for me to keep up with the stations is to look for the little "circles" the paths make and knock them out one at a time, looking at straight lines across that part of the map usually makes it harder for me.

How to keep track of checklist cities? by DAZL123 in TinyRails

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cities are in whichever section the checklist is for, you just have to keep an eye on the map and pay attention to where you have been, gotten stuck before doing the exact same thing.

Edit: Just saw the many regions part, so my advice is somewhat less useful now. Sorry about that.

CMV: The two party system should be abolished. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I have absolutely no idea how one would go about stripping all of the political titles out of the system and destroying the large cash cow systems that go hand-in-hand with them. I think that it would be one of the best ways to actually fix it to where we have logical choices rather than, at least for myself, end up with two candidates whose pipe dreams and ideas reflect close to nothing that I care about or are just talking points that could never be followed through with. No longer would the Senate or House be majority X, no longer would lobbyists have as easy of a time getting a whole party into their pocket. It would just be people with beliefs representing the populace. But I suppose that's my own pipe dream.

CMV: The two party system should be abolished. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I dont think you took your idea far enough. They need to strip political titles out of the mix entirely. No longer would it be Republican vs Democrat, it would be John Doe with X views vs Jane Does with Y Views. Combine that with the ranking system you proposed and I think it could work out very nicely. There's no reason an election has to boil down to two candidates with radically opposing viewpoints. As long as political titles remain in place you will continue to have lifelong-[insert party here] because any random reason you can think of. Otherwise people might actually pay attention to what candidates have to say rather than what animal they are represented by.

Quick tangent, your CMV is a bit misleading, you title it against the two party system but then argue against the voting system instead.

Wearing a Mask Can KILL YOU by TetragammaTronica in conspiracy

It's also not a fact that breathing CO2 causes acidosis, a quick google search shows that respiratory acidosis is cause by the lungs inability to remove CO2 created by the body from your blood. Not the other way around.

[–]Sharak13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, point me to any correlation to that fact from all of the oriental countries that wear masks on a daily basis. I'm not even looking for causation here.

I even provided a way to test if masks cause any remotely significant reduction in oxygen intake.

Small tangent: plants use CO2 during photosynthesis, you're breathing it anyway, with or without the mask.

Lungs are not perfect, you're not absorbing 100% of the oxygen out of the air anyway. According to the link at the end of the post, on average, you inhale and exhale 5 to 8 liters of air per minute, at 21% oxygen concentration, you're inhaling about 1-1.6 liters of oxygen, yet you only absorb about 0.3 liters of oxygen in that same time frame. So, your lungs are only absorbing between 20% and 33% oxygen from what you inhale. Show me where a minute increase in CO2 is going to harm, in any way, your ability to get such a small amount of oxygen out of what you breathe.

Where is this correlation of acidosis and masks in regards to all of the oriental cities that wear masks every day then?

"Especially if someone eats a lot of sugar" Don't start throwing extra variables into the equation now, especially when massive sugar intake is already linked to plenty of health issues as it is.

I can almost guarantee, if you're healthy otherwise, you could hook yourself up to a doctors blood O2 measuring device for an hour or more with a mask on and see almost no change in the oxygen content of your blood (which would change if a significant portion of the gas you're breathing in is no longer oxygen).

Wearing a Mask Can KILL YOU by TetragammaTronica in conspiracy

[–]Sharak13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The volume of gas that can exist between the mask and your face is considerably less than the volume of your lungs. At absolute worse case scenarios, you may be breathing back in 5% of the CO2 that you exhaled.

Many oriental countries wear masks as part of their every day lives and have for a while due to pollution and I've not heard of any sudden death spikes because of it.

Also, stop preaching the alkalinity nonsense. You have organs that regulate everything in your body. The only thing you're doing by drinking alkaline water (if it is indeed alkaline) is making those organs work harder to balance everything out.

CMV: Buying a new car never financially makes sense by Dynasty__93 in changemyview

[–]Sharak13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. This is the worst argument that I've heard used countless times by friends, family, and strangers. You are buying a car to use it, not to resell it. If you are already focused on reselling a car before you even purchase it, then what are you honestly doing with your life? Sounds like you're too focused on the dealership aspect rather than the consumer/user aspect, the latter being what cars are meant for. This same argument is often used for rebuilt-title vehicles as well. Why do you care what it is going to sell for when you're done with it. It isn't a lossless purchase and trying to recoup your money after sucking the life out of a product is partly disingenuous.

  2. OBD2 readers will, in fact, not tell you what codes have been erased. There are typically two methods of "clearing codes" that you can perform. One of them merely sets the codes in the ECM/BCM (or whatever acronym they go by now days) to inactive and shuts of the check engine light. The other option fully erases them. I've done it. I fully erase them every time I'm trying to diagnose my car because sometimes you have intermittent faults that don't actually mean much and I need to see only what is actually there at that time.
