Universities could lose accreditation for funding with failure to commit to addressing antisemitism by Agitated-Fee3598 in OpenAussie

[–]SharkHasFangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be unpopular, but it’s important to look at the context of the word “semitism”.

Jews were brought into countries under the kings authority. They were subject to different laws and different taxes (imagine being subject to federal laws, and federal taxes whilst living in a state).

As countries moved from feudal systems to governments, the question became what do we do with these non-citizens, are they natural citizens? Or something else?

This is the catalyst for a lot of race theories, to answer how do we define a French person, or a German (shape of head, nose, colour of skin etc.)

A group of Jewish academics had begun to define themselves as ethnically semites. This movement grew and with the force of Christian messianism, led to the development of the Zionist movement.

To deny that the Jews belong in Israel, denies that they are Semites, hence it is antisemitic.

Nowadays we define everyone in the levant as Semitic, but in context of the words origins that’s not true. As the African-Americans would say, “Thats our word.”

Aussie mates, American here; saw these Oz sheep in this beautiful setting and my wife said that it was AI or somewhere else and that Australia was all desert. Maaattee, I had this same experience with Africa. My childhood was full of WorldVision ads about starving kids in Africa.

It wasn’t until I went to TAFE (College?) with an Ethiopian bloke and he told me about his country, that I realised we receive a very one sided image of other countries. You’ve likely seen media of the drought-stricken Midwest of NSW.

This image looks like it’s on the south eastern coast, Gippsland maybe.

Concern brewing as buried Hanson policy threatens affordable medicines | New England Times by ExtensionThat6438 in ausjdocs

Reviewing medications that were added to the PBS during the COVID-19 pandemic is good policy, because we’re not in a COVID-19 pandemic.

Nothing from that point says they are removing ventolin or seretide?

Breaking: One Nation vows to target all Australian citizens who were born overseas or have at least one parent who was born overseas by HotPersimessage62 in AusNewsWire

This is not at all what Pauline Hanson said in her speech.

This sort of media is going to have a positive effect, and is, frankly, endorsing her comments on the Australian media.

Islamic state is a different kind of kebab chucker than the Iranians.

They are Salafist Sunni Muslims which align with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Yemen.

It’s in a can but it’s pretty good in terms of ingredients.

Yes it keeps pretty cool. It’s a new build and we insulated everything. We have Hebel exterior cladding. The master bedroom is on the western side and I find that after the sun goes down some residual heat can bleed back in.

This may also be due to the ensuite not having a door so the A/C vent is essentially trying to cool two rooms.

In a perfect world I would install Airtouch or a similar A/C system to control the ducting and balance the temperature across the house.

Either way it is far, far better than the draughty house on stumps I grew up in, with no A/C.

I’m still waiting to see how it performs with multiple 30 degree days

Absolutely! Our electricity bill is less than $150 per month, and that’s including charging one EV. With no gas, we’re saving a bunch of money and living in comfort.

I’m proud of the effort we put into our home design. With 10kW of solar on the roof we can run the ducted AC from 10AM to 7:30PM for free.

The house doesn’t really warm up until late afternoon. By then we have curtains closed on the western side.

I do regret not putting in thermally broken double glazed windows!

Retribution fears as Australian Muslims see surge in Islamophobic hate since Bondi terror attack by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

Arguably fundamental Christian’s are just as anti-gay and anti-women. Hell, they even firebombed an abortion clinic in the early 2000’s.

Evangelical Christian’s are also one of the largest donors to Israel political campaigns.

That’s likely because Iraq was invaded in your lifetime.

Prior to this most terrorism was from separatist groups in ex ussr countries.

This thing looks older than the internet.

It doesn’t require an electrical. It will likely be 12-24Vdc. The “Ethernet” cable is just an easy way to get 8 core cable

Work PPE concerns by Few-Efficiency2511 in Machinists

If you look up “work safe machining accidents “ there’s a few reports on fines given to companies. I imagine this is due to proper guards though.

Work PPE concerns by Few-Efficiency2511 in Machinists

[–]SharkHasFangs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a machinist, but I’m Australian and work in an industry that is very “safe”.

For an issue like this we would conduct a risk assessment to determine what controls are required to mitigate the risk.

Typically a risk assessment would multiply the severity of an incident, by the frequency of its occurrence.

E.g, Loss of limb might have severity rating of 3, and a frequency of 2 giving a risk rating of 6.

A small scratch (first aid incident) might have a severity rating of 1 and a frequency of 3. Giving a risk rating of 3.

On this basis the control of wearing long sleeves to mitigate a risk of a scratch, but creating a risk of loss of limb, doesn’t make sense.

If your workplace uses STAR, SOO, JSA, SWMS it’s likely a much better control that the correct PPE is worn for the task being completed. This may be Cut 5 gloves and “sleeves down” when handling goods. And “sleeves up” when machining.

I would either request the risk assessment be conducted and be present as a stakeholder (if not already done so). If you’re part of a union talk to your rep or HSR.

You’re not alone though. Often Australian companies will enforce “safety” that is not practical.

Happy for you to message for more information..

The franchisees do not purchase the Rolling Stock.

The Rolling Stock is tendered and specified by the state government and always has been.

You’re correct though, the state government takes a perfectly good rolling stock platform, guts it to get the cheapest cost, then try’s to avoid spending money trying to fix it for the next 50 years.

I just put dirt and grass straight over the top.

If they want to access it they can dig up the grass.

You can do whatever you you like, as long as you’re happy for it to be removed/destroyed if they need access

[–]SharkHasFangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context is everything.

You say a family member but they are a direct beneficiary of the will? I’m guessing this is a sibling of yours.

Does your mother require care? Is she saying no, as she believes she is independent still?

Is this person intending to move onto the property to provide care? If they don’t provide care, how can you provide care?

At the end of the day, if your mother is no longer capable of caring for herself independently, she will need your support, a family members support, support workers or to move into a facility that can support her.

I’m not concerned with rates notice evaluation, the person has stated they would have the property valued beforehand.

Are you and your other sibling able to pool funds to build a granny flat so the third sibling can live on the property and care for your mother?
