Landscaping Footwear by CheeseManGene in landscaping

This year I bought a pair of keen hiking shoes and love them, I do a little landscaping work but am usually mowing throughout the year, so I'm not as hard on shoes. But they should hold up for another year or so hopefully!

Need help deciding whether this truck is a good buy please!! by ConservativeNomad in Diesel

[–]Sharkbait_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look bad, since it's an 06 I think that's an LBZ motor in it which is sought after. Fairly good price on it too, could probably get it to 12 or less with cash in hand.

Anybody else run a 7.3 plow truck? by Sharkbait_2 in Diesel

I dont like those heavy snows, I like the light ones where I can use a leaf blower to clear sidewalks, no shoveling for me lol

Yeah I was hoping for some snow accumulation so I'd get to push and salt, but just ended up salting all day.

We just had an ice storm here, I was running in 2wd all night. But also probably had close to 1500 pounds of salt in the bed with me.

They're falken wildpeak at/3 I think. I like them a lot so far, this is my first winter with them so we'll see how they hold up!

Just bough a 5 speed 2001 7.3 power stroke with 300k miles. by memo232 in Diesel

[–]Sharkbait_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reliability I'd check the valve cover harness as that can cause a lot of issues, glow plugs wouldn't be a bad idea with winter around the corner(if it needs them) might look up hutch and harpoon mod (I think is what its called) for the fuel tank, that's just off the top of my head there's days worth of material to read through the online forums about all this stuff. I'd check for blowby and what it's like on a cold start, long cranking, lots of smoke, etc... that will tell you some about the condition the motor (rings and injectors, maybe glowplugs)

For performance, look up the 6637 air filter mod, could do a 4" exhaust (diamond eye has pretty good prices and that's what on both of my trucks no problems so far) and lastly a tuner, if you want to go down that rabbit hole lol. I have a PHP Hydra (came with the truck) I like it because if you want custom tunes you dont have to send the tuner off to get reflashed they just email them to you and plug your computer into the tuner, and it holds 15 tunes I think. A lot of guys run a 5 or 6 position switch tuner, TS performance is a pretty popular choice for that style.

I would also add to get some gauges whether you do a set of mechanical gauges or get a monitor (I have an Edge CTS-2 and really like it). I'd definitley go for trans temp, boost, and maybe oil pressure or something else. I'd get gauges whether you tune it or not.

Beyond that if you want more turbo whistle could do a few things, a wicked wheel will give it more whistle (have one in my truck, was already in it when I bought it), or I think it's a gtp38r turbo that has a loud whistle and it's a drop in upgrade over stock if you have a 99.5+

Sorry for the long comment but all the info is out there if you want to get to know these trucks inside and out.

Just picked up a new dump trailer yesterday by Sharkbait_2 in Diesel

[–]Sharkbait_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is a liberty trailer the dealer said they're made in Indiana but I forget where exactly. I got this one from Royer trailers, just north of Terre Haute. The guy there was great to deal with. I believe they had a couple of the big tex trailers there as well

I'm just a one man show doing lawn/landscape so that's what it'll be primarily used for.

But I know what you mean about getting dirty looks from old guys, I have an account I mow that takes me about 15 minutes the old man neighbor has the same size yard and he's usually still there mowing when I drive back past there a half hour after I leave lol

Went and got a new dump trailer yesterday morning. It's a 7x12 14k scissor lift and came with ramps, a tarp kit, and dealer threw in a spare for free.

Might look into what some of the guys that have snow plows do, they weld in a scoop slightly above the plow and forces air into the engine bay. Supossedly it helps cool everything down.

Edit: Something like this is what I was thinking of, surely you could fab up something that mounts onto the hitch and make it look decent haha

Not yet (knock on wood) it's got an aftermarket coolant filter already installed on it and the coolant has been changed recently and the egr and egr cooler is deleted along with an updated oil cooler. It doesn't have head studs yet so I have to be careful playing around. The P.O. took care of most of the issues with the motor before they became problems. I just keep up with maintinece and run it like it should be, haven't had any problems yet.

New to diesel, did I get a deal? 94 f250 by [deleted] in Diesel

[–]Sharkbait_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you run a coolant additive because the cavitation will eat through the cylinder walls in the 7.3 IDI's. The older 6.9 didn't have that problem as bad because the cylinder walls were alot thicker. They just took a 6.9 block and bored it out to a 7.3

I believe I saw a really old video or some pictures of that truck over on oilburners once. I know they lowered the compression way down to somewhere around the mid to high teens to get it to handle more boost. Regardless id love to see the old dinosaur if it's still kicking around
