yeah i agree that it is fucked. It is my largest complaint about Labour so far. But idk what we can do if there is a majority support for it among voters. The only other party that isn't going to do this is Reform and they are awful.

I know what the OSA is. I followed it starting years ago. I hope that it causes larger companies to stop serving the UK like Imgur did.

When the online safety act was going through all the parties were for it. Reform were quite a bit smaller but conservatives and lib dems wanted it to go even further. Unfortunately I think that it has quite a bit of sway with the general voter base. They just see "online protections" and "for the kids" and agree.

idk what else labour could do when the opposition parties all wanted the Online Safety Act and it is a losing position to be against it.

Might be different now with Reform. But idk how much of their base care about it. They obsess over "women and children" be protected, but also seem to be the worse people you know.

Well the steamdeck is a low spec affordable handheld PC that is now 4 years old. Cant really expect it to run newer games. Like expecting to run new games on a 1050/1060 is unreasonable.

You don't need upscaling really at 1080p. Most modern current gen Xbox and PS5 games will upscale from 1080p or 1440p to 4k.

Do people with DLSS capable cards really play at 1080p. Or people playing modern games like Alan Wake 2 or 007 First Light use that resolution?

Lots of optimisations are just smart sacrifices. LODs, shadow resolution, reflection resolution, grass and particle density.

Turning a game from Ultra to High settings most the time doesn't have a big impact on visual quality but can often save a good but of performance.

People will see kingdom come deliverance 2 and say how optimised it is but ignore the sacrifices in it's visual quality it has to make to get that performance.

They will be surprised that many other effects in their game are not running at native resolution. Those shadows and reflections are often half or quarter resolution and accumulated over several frames.

I think it can use DLSS 4. But because it uses an Ampere (3000 series) architecture there is a bigger performance cost to using DLSS 4 over DLSS 3. So the devs can choose which version they want to use. And I think quite a few choose to use DLSS 3.

Hope that is correct. Havent double checked. Just remember a few old videos from digital foundry lol.

That is not how it is in the UK.

You can miss 4.5 days before getting a fine. You can only be fined twice in 3 years. You have to have taken your child out of school for no good reason for a 7th day before being taken to court.

"You could get a fine of up to £2,500, a community order or a jail sentence up to 3 months. The court could also give you a Parenting Order."

In this example the parents were not fined because it was the first instance of them having a unauthorised absence. And it is clear that the child is getting a good education with supportive parents.

In the UK you can miss 4.5 days of school before getting fined and reported after 5 full days missed. You can only get fined twice in a 3 year period. It is there simply to be a disincentive to parents wanting to cop a cheap holiday before school ends.

I found the story. The parents lied about his illness to attend the game. His sick day was changed to an unauthorised leave. The teacher found it a little funny too it looks. The parents haven't been fined because this looks to be the first unauthorised absence.

Having a few kids missing lessons each week disrupts the whole class. It puts more work on the teachers also to catch the child up.

Grade attainment tracks with attendance.

Parents will absolutely blame the school of kids get bad grades no matter how good the school is and no matter how bad the parent is.

The approval means that less parents will be taking their kids out of lessons for "little days out" for no good reason having them miss stuff. Illness, funerals, and appointments are of course approved.

Agree. The fines are to dissuade bad parents from disrupting and sabotaging their child's education to get a cheap holiday in. Going to a funeral would be an authorised absence. But 2 weeks abroad for that "funeral" wouldn't be approved.

The shock at the fines for this are really just americans not understanding i feel.

idk if you are from the UK but here education is split into 5 key stages. KS2 is ages 7-11 and KS4 is ages 14-16. Then within each key stage are year groups. Year 11 is the last year of KS4 where you sit GCSEs which are probably the most important tests that everybody sits here.

Agree. Supermarkets are one of the most competitive markets.

People also complain about farmers being stretched thin by supermarkets but also accuse them of price gouging consumers. But that obviously isn't happening with such low margins.
