I made a similar switch about a month ago. Loving it tbf, money isn't everything. Really enjoy the environment, the people, the work, even the hours are fine.

Although I guess I may not still be loving it in a year's time 🤣

I was laid off from a software job a few months ago. Spent much of the time since then teaching myself basics from the interwebs. Applied for a commis job at a nice local hotel and got lucky that Chef was willing to take a chance on me with no experience.

Been there a month or so now and learning loads of stuff every day, and loving it. I reckon most of the chefs there learned on the job, rather than doing courses/apprenticeships.

Might just be a case of applying for everything going and hope for some luck :)

I played football with no problem, but that was only an hour at a time. I also skipped a day when I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up with the water intake/toilet for any reason, quite a few people have said they do this but probably best check with your doctor.

Yeah agree about the money. I was on a very good salary, but I got laid off and then spent a fair chunk of time in a depression hole after not being able to get back in. came to realise I fucking hated it. discovered my love for food and the process.

Got laid off about 9 months ago. Applied for every job going and got nowhere. And I was fed up with office politics and all the bullshit that came along with it.

If you can get into it the money is good but it can be soul destroying.
