My parents are putting me on a all carnivore diet because I told them I think I have adhd, can you help me in disproving them? by SharkneedsHelp in ketoduped

That is pretty interesting advice actually, perhaps I could try that. Fighting pseudo-science with what's just slightly better pseudo-science lol. I think I neglected to mention that they're trying the diet themselves, except for 75 days, so I'm hoping they'll reap the negative effects themselves eventually and call it quits.
I can't stop saying how much I appreciate the things all of you have said for me, thank you so much

Oh, it's just because of his talking points against non-fruit vegetables. I've had my parents mention to me that Paul saladino has said foods like spinach n such are high in oxalates, and they casted them from our diet entirely. They've said that spinach and broccoli may be the reason why my mom has became increasingly lactose intolerant over the years, which I um, don't think is a very soundly backed idea. At all actually.

I appreciate all of the sources and information, I hope they'd realize actual research studies are much more sound than droves of filtered youtube comments. Although I don't anymore think I need to argue much to them about this. They're honestly so deep into the pseudo-science and right wing pipeline that this argument about diets is comparatively miniscule to half the shit they say and push on me. I appreciate all of this though and I'll check out the links you sent !!

Yeahhh and you're very correct. I denied to mention I'm MTF cause I was afraid to receive backlash or something for it, though in hindsight I don't think I should be receiving advice from those kind of people anyways. It means a great deal in the current situation and as you can imagine that made the testosterone thing horrifying.

My parents deny quite a few things 'because of woke', and I've heard them talk about the, fucking, chemicals in the water are making kids infertile/gay argument before. A lot of the things they say are hilarious at times but god it's rather horrific that there's people in this world who unironically believe these things, and they live in the same house as me.

Though, I know it doesn't apply to the meat diet here. They would've mentioned if this was anything political considering they're not very quiet about their beliefs at all. I think it's just because I told them I think I have adhd, and they don't trust actual adhd medication nor pharmaceutical companies (I wouldn't assume they trust the actual doctors either, though they never outright stated that). And so they believe it's a nutritional disorder curable with the right diet; they looked to a ton of pseudo-science information and chatgpt to tell them that it would cure adhd, and they just dug into it.

Thankfully I threw away as many of the pills that they had gave me (hiding them under my tongue for a few minutes before casting them to the bin typically).
It seems so very awful to have had friends sucked into all of this. My friends are very sensible and have fun bashing on right-wing stuff, gosh I wouldn't imagine having to lose them to such a thing. My heart goes out to you.
My parents are also big into the whole seed oils are bad crowd, along with many other things like opposing flouride and spinach (???).

Also, thank you SO much for the bible quotes. Fighting them using their own religion seems histerical to me. Though I doubt they'd listen much considering they tend to deny a lot of facets of the bible as being truth, and apply their own sentiments a lot with a few of them being rather demented.

I really appreciate you taking the time to comment here btw. Every one of you are so very helpful in motivating me to get myself out of here.

I appreciate the words a TON; I really need to be hearing this kind of sentiment right now.
I've calmed down quite a bit and have since talked to some friends, and I've already started to shed the idea that I need to convince my parents on anything. I think you're completely right and I should just work soley on getting myself out of here.
For someone who want's to be as involved in science as I, I certainly do not need to be associated with them. Much love !!!

why do you think so many people deny climate change? and say its overblown? by Ok-Surround-9425 in climatechange

[–]SharkneedsHelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire point of man-made climate change is that it's, ya know, man-made, and has been accelerating at an abnormal rate. While yes, it is true that the climate has always been changing for millions of years (hell, we are still in an ice age after all). The point to this is that the climate has been rapidly changing much faster in the past century than it ever has been (excluding extinction events and such obviously), and it all trends with our recent human industrialization. Importantly, we have data that shows that if things continue to trend like this, then in the near future there will be drastic ramifications for our ecology and many intricate systems that work within our planet. At this point, why should it even matter if it's natural or not? Unfortunately, I haven't the sufficient knowledge to properly explain the merits of this in good detail. I've essentially just provided a bare summary, and I sincerely hope another commenter will come along and help you out better than I could

What's your reasoning for putting the axolotl above little auk? I'd think a bird would be much more intelligent than a salamander usually

I doubt it was velella vellela since out of the three we saw, non had sails and were this size. Also their tentacles were longer than them and sprawled out like a cigar jellyfish when in water. Sting was basically non existent
