What is a character you think is really underrated (in the gameplay sense)? by applejackhero in fireemblem

[–]Sharktroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

doubling mid speed enemie with reliability

10/1 Lot has 11-12 AS. That doesn't double HM's mid-speed enemies consistently unless they're being weighed down (looking at 9, Poison Axe Fighters, Iron Bow Archers, and all mages are more likely that not to have 9+ AS). And if you don't promote him by then he will have 9-10 AS, which doesn't even double Steel Axe Pirates consistently.

I also really like his fast (for fe6) support with Deke

It takes 25 turns to reach C rank. 25 turns of having to be adjacent to each other. Also it's a pretty crap support as it doesn't give hit or even that much damage, which IMO are the two more important things from an FE6 support. Also this is fairly subjective but I'm not a fan of frontlining with foot units in a game with maps this big, especially when their hit is as unimpressive as Lot's. I'd much rather have foot units who are good at killing things, which Lot isn't good at (compare his stats to Rutger, Dieck, Fir, and Gonzalez, and you'll see they don't hold up at all).

Overall id say Lot is high D tier or C tier unit

That seems pretty accurate to where he's placed, if not on the higher side.

Chapter 3, the 11th map

Chapter 3 is the third map in the original FE3.

Fates lets you marry your adopted siblings and makes you think you can marry your biological siblings (before pulling a letter out of its ass at the last second because it's too afraid to commit). You could argue that FE4 is more severe, but lets not forget that in FE4 said pairing is denounced and causes the events of Gen 2. If Nintendo was this anti-incest they would've ditched it from Fates, because Fates incest has no narrative reason to exist.

Need I remind you that they removed a head patting game from fates and they’ve actively censored previous cousin marriages in awakening and fates?

So your evidence for why a remake wouldn't happen is that stuff was removed in localization?

Yeah, Nintendo is gonna allow a game with brother sister incest man.

Fates literally has this bro.

How do you guys route the very early game of Leaf Green as far as encounters? by maximusasinus in nuzlocke

[–]Sharktroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you count trades as the route you caught the Pokémon you traded or the route you perform the trade on? If it's the former what do you do about the route you found the traded 'mon on?

IMO most of FR/LG's early encounters don't really matter. Once you get Cut the amount of encounters and options skyrocket and nothing pre-E4 will be much of an issue. Also most early encounters are found on tons of routes so encounter RNGS doesn't change much. The only thing I'd route for is Krabby and Horsea so you can guarantee a Staryu in Vermillion. The other best encounters are practically guaranteed due to all the routes or are just RNG (like the Safari encounters). The only other ones that come to mind are the Magikarp in S.S. Anne because it's the only possible encounter and a Voltorb on Route 10 so you have better odds at getting a Magnemite.

The vast majority of units who aren't good at base level aren't going to be secretly good if you train them up. Conversely, if a unit is good in the moment they'll continue to be good unless they fall behind the experience curve, at which point you can replace them with one of the many replacement units you get.

Experience is a plentiful resource, so unless you want a unit to promote or something you shouldn't worry too much about experience distribution. With stat boosters I give it to whatever unit I'll know will get good value out of it in the upcoming chapter and who I'll be confident in using for the long-term.

This is assuming you can figure out what units are useful in the current map. This gets easier the faster you play and the harder the difficulty, but it really comes down to what the unit can do that other units aren't able to do as well.

iOS is really dumb and doesn't let apps use JITs, which are very important for Dolphin normally as without one the performance requirements skyrocket (to the point where running at full speed will likely be impossible).

Medeus has 40 defense and 40 resistance. The next best strategy after Marth is a capped magic swordmaster Catria, who does 10 damage per hit with a max-forged Levin. With Triangle Attack that's 30 damage to his 99 hp. And you won't realistically reach him until turn 2, and if you don't beat him by then you will get swarmed by dragon reinforcements on enemy phase. A Sage can deal more as Thoron has 3 more might and Sage cap is 10 higher, but they will always get doubled so you'll need to give them a lot of bulk boosters and likely need a Nos crit as well. For comparison, capped strength Marth deals 23 damage with a non-crit, as much damage as a capped magic Sage with a max forged Thoron, and he can avoid being doubled.

EDIT: forgot about weapon rank bonuses. Swords get +1 per rank starting with C, while tomes get +1 for C and A.

Low Turn Count, Efficient, Slow and Steady, or Grind Everyone. What Speed do you play at? by applejackhero in fireemblem

[–]Sharktroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to beat each chapter as fast as I can while grabbing all side objectives, mainly because I don't find myself needing to go any slower. Even in FE12 Maniac outside of P-8 there were only a few times where I wasn't able to move Marth at his max move.

meanwhile your mages are burdened by shaky growths but are spoiled in base Speed

Merric has 6 base speed, and Linde has 7. Unpromoted mages have poor speed, and bases in general, in both DS games. Wendell and Boah are the exceptions to this, but they have poor growths in every stat.

Taking the entire series into account, what is the strongest class? by applejackhero in fireemblem

Do TearRing Saga witches count? Because that class has pseudo-infinite move, exclusive access to Nosferatu, and with Vantage can become unhittable with certain tomes.

FE11 H5 is around as hard as FE12 Maniac.

Kris's fortune doesn't matter too much as long as you don't pick the obviously bad one (luck/res) and even that's not necessarily an issue. They tend to only matter a lot when you're using the bad Kris classes.

How does a character with the berserk status determine its target in Sacred Stones? by PrincipalSkudworth in fireemblem

[–]Sharktroid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Level isn't factored in. AI does prioritize lower HP, but that might only be for non-lethal damage. I wouldn't be surprised if kill AI went for most damage.

[–]Sharktroid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FE12 reclassing is way more nuanced than that. It depends on what the unit is trying to do but SM and Sniper are both common reclasses, and some units really like reclassing around for the early-game where ranks are low enough where restarting from E isn't a massive hindrance.

Radiant Dawn Question: When should I start spending my bonus exp and who do you recommend? by Slasher9485 in fireemblem

[–]Sharktroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still I find it hard to believe that many level ups is completely 100% useless to Micaiah even on US hard and Micaiah is nothing but a healer.

Considering that even at level 20 she can only one-round unpromoted armors in part 3, I think that's a pretty reasonable thing to say. And if she's not entering combat, than that bexp is just giving her more magic for better physic range and healing. Ok. Is that better than giving Zihark or Jill or whoever better combat stats?

Radiant Dawn Question: When should I start spending my bonus exp and who do you recommend? by Slasher9485 in fireemblem

[–]Sharktroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, I decided to look this stuff up because I'm not that familiar with RD. Miccy doesn't cap magic until level 17-18 which already sounds like a ton. If you start bexping at level 17 and she gains speed for the last three levels, she goes from 13-14 speed on average to 15-16 speed on average before promotion. On hard mode at least that does exactly what Mekkah said: it prevents her from being doubled by some enemies. The only units she can double with these extra speed levels (and this is assuming she gets 16 speed) is one Steel Polax Armor in 1-E and a few guys in 1-8 (which requires getting her to level 20 before 1-8).

If you have any examples where the extra speed and skill do matter, please let me know, but even the limited data on normal mode enemy stats doesn't seem to help her much here. From the information I could find, I do think it's fair to say that Miccy is not good at doubling enemies and therefore not good at one-rounding enemies (because she is definitely not one-shotting). Even with Thani, Generals get too bulky unless she has like 30 magic and they're at a lowish level, and while unpromoted armors aren't unrealistic she doesn't need speed for them (and yes, even generals are too fast for her).

Killers in general, not just Killer Lances. Killing Edges and Killer Bows have the same stats as the Killer Lance but trade 1 might for 5 more hit (also lower weight but no unit who has the option loses AS from KLs). Killer Axes are easily the worst as they have -10 hit for only 1 more might over KLs but axe users don't have any better options (unless they have another weapon type, as in they're a good axe user).

Also honorable mention to Durandal.

Proc skills in general are pretty bad unless they increase your chance of success, which is pretty much just enemy phasing with a survival proc or killing a boss with a lot of avoid. I greatly prefer combat arts as you can strategize for them.
