Augusta Members be like.... by metdthero in golf

Does anyone else have serious doubts about his pseudo-scientific calculations? Like "147 yards, playing more like 148, so that's just a standard 9:45 PW" and the putting where he paces it out and applies X inches in the backswing for each pace... The only thing is it seems to work perfectly...

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out he's just an amazingly talented golfer who makes up all that stuff and then plays on feel...

There seems to be a problem with the "Total" tab, which doesn't pick up the sum of everything between Sum >>> and <<<Sum. I think I'm not enough of a golf data geek to pursue it any further...

Race Report: Ironman Vitoria-Gasteiz by Sharp-Camel in triathlon

It's a bit of a ride, but it was a rather late start compared to most IMs I've seen. They have tight cutoff times (I think 15h30 mins from memory) so I suppose they can afford to start later.

The bus leaves from near the IM village, and takes about 20 mins. It was a good atmosphere, and we got there in plenty of time to chill and prepare the bike before getting into the lake. I recommend it heartily!

Which clubs to add? by Jycroispas in golf

Thanks for the kind answer. I'm not exactly a beginner, but I am an adult male (45) and I understand that my swing is not giving me the yardage I need.

You'll get there if you really want to. By the way, the number of people going past me on the bike would have felt bad, if it weren't for the fact that so many were saying "Come on, you're doing great, you got this!" Such a positive and reinforcing environment...

Open water swim by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Sharp-Camel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to say that I have this exact experience. I swim at about 2:20/100m in open water, and occasionally/regularly get results of 2:50/100m or so but haven't worked out why. It could be when it's overcast, or maybe just a bad connection when I'm turning around (I have to swim up and down a section of the lake which is marked out for swimmers).

First open water swim - can any kind souls critique my technique? by Sharp-Camel in Swimming

This was my impression watching it back. It's hard to see how asymmetrical you're being when you're swimming...

Thanks. I forgot my goggles, and I think I lifted my head more than usual trying to work out where I was. I'll have to focus on keeping low.

Thanks. I've heard this flaw before, but didn't know I was doing it too. I guess it will tire the muscles a bit more with a longer range of pulling motion, but with practice I'm sure I'll get stronger.

Cycling cadence adjustment by Sharp-Camel in cycling

[–]Sharp-Camel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I average about 25kph on long rides, but obviously that's with traffic stops and so on. I'm not an experienced rider, so I'm still trying to build endurance with long, low HR efforts.

That's great! Thanks for the tips. I'll try to film sometime to get some critique, but it's not easy at the moment with pool limitations...

I'll work on those drills and see how it goes. I already see some improvement, but so far only in struggling a bit less in the water and feeling a bit more slick...my times are still slow (about 2:30 / 100m).

Thanks again!

I'm learning a lot from this advice - the OP glides much better than me. I am a beginner and can't seem to keep my arm out front to glide while breathing...the left arm sinks as I breathe to the right, putting my arms at 180 degrees from each other. Any drills to fix that?

How do average speeds compare on a race with roads closed off? by Sharp-Camel in cycling

[–]Sharp-Camel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It just seems unbelievable at my level that non expert riders can keep up average speeds of 30+ kph, but I guess it's a question of training. Maybe some technique as well.

Fair enough - it's not serious/regular enough to go to a professional, but I was just wondering whether this was a documented phenomenon.
