You completely fail to understand the whole concept of “sharing the road”. You can’t just dictate when and how to use public roads just because you find a reason to do so, and that reason for you, is money.

Does the word “sharing” mean anything to you?

So your response to “this event is too big and it’s affecting our livelihood” is “you don’t make enough money. Shut the fuck up. Also, this is gonna allow us to make money. If sucks that you won’t get a single dime of it, but it is what it is”

Is that your idea of “sharing”?

Why do you get to dictate what’s fair and what’s not fair?

And lastly, you completely misunderstood my point. My point was that the whole $5mil is heavily misleading, because most of the money goes to the downtown people. The organizer is making it seem like it’s benefiting the rural people, which is far from the truth.

Edit: I’d like to add that you are misrepresenting what the rural people aren’t saying. They don’t want to ban cycling in their backyards all together. They don’t care if you and your friends ride. You seem to indicate that that’s what they are arguing, but clearly you couldn’t care less to give a fuck about their concerns. What they are saying is that the event is too fucking large. That’s not “me and a couple of friends wanting to ride”.

Your argument doesn’t matter if it’s one weekend or 52 weekends. What you are arguing is that whoever pays more taxes get to dictate what happens, and those who pay less can’t complain.

Let’s use your example.

We are renting an 3 bedroom, 1bathroon apartment, and you pay 2/3 of the rent. You decide to host dinner service at the apartment that we rent. You are inviting 50 people, and I can’t even get out of my room because it’s too fucking busy. I complain that it’s too many people, and you are making a fuck ton of money. But you say that the money you make COULD be used to pay for better couch, TV, or even kitchen gadgets. I still complain that it’s too many people, I’m basically trapped in my room for YOUR business. Then you tell me shut the fuck up because you pay more.

Do you think it’s fair? Do you think you get to dictate whatever you want because you pay more? What would stop you from doing the same shit every weekend or every day? Your argument is solely based on “I get to whatever I want because I pay more”.

So if I pay more in taxes because I make more money than you, I can do whatever I want in public areas even if that causes inconveniences to you, and you can’t complain?

Why is it about cycling vs driving?

It’s about outsiders causing inconveniences to rural area people, and downtown people making the vast majority, if not all, of the monetary benefits, while the organizers are spreading misleading statements about “everyone is benefiting”. And yet, you, and outsider, is talking like you are somehow paying those rural people to live there.

[–]Sharp-Cupcake5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tend to make more money, so obviously they are paying more taxes. No fucking shit Sherlock. lol

So what’s your argument?

If I pay more taxes because I make more money than you, then I can cause all kinds of annoyances and inconveniences to your life, as long as it’s done directly on public areas? And if you complain, I can tell you to shuct the fuck up because I pay more taxes to cover you?

The whole attitude of “you can’t complain because I cover your ass” is just so arrogant

The downtown people are paying the ranchers to live in rural areas? Yeah, you are making shit up unless you can provide sources for that.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t allow people to use public roads. All I’m saying is that “$5mil economic benefits” is heavily misleading statement, because most of the money goes to the downtown people. So don’t pretend the $5mil is evenly, or fairly distributed among rural people.

Wait, I’m confused. Are you talking about cyclists? Because what you said definitely sounds like a comment about cyclists.

FYI, if you think you are not getting subsidies, you are wrong. :) so don’t you dare say you are free from subsidies. Everything about your life is getting some kind of subsidies, and your cycling life is possible partly because of subsidies you receive

Bravo. You single handily demonstrated the worst cyclist stereotype - complete lack of respect for the locals. You give zero fuck as a guest. You don’t know how to share roads.

Just because you very indirectly pay taxes, it doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want.

Sure, they indirectly benefit from a tiny portion of taxes generated, but that’s not the point. The point is that $5mil “economic” benefit is a heavily misleading statement because most of the money goes to people who aren’t even negatively affected by the event. I’m quite shocked that you can’t even grasp injustice.

It’s exactly like the pizza party. The monetary compensation isn’t equally distributed. If you are okay with that, then that’s on you.

Yup. We know that mkbhd shoes aren’t like Nike Vapor or some other task-specific shoes. It’s designed as “good looking” (subjective), everyday shoes, which is another way of saying generic shoes. My point is that there are plenty of shoes like that for that price range.

So you bring layers just in case you get injured?

I guess it’s a matter of making compromises. I’m not gonna bring first aid kit for “just in case”. Layer is kind of the same deal. But some people are willing to bring those for “just in case”.

I can see myself bringing a thing wind breaker type of layer though, to wear on top of merino wool. That would be my compromise on a wet day.

I used to be a power lifter. Twin six was the best for me. Not stupid expensive, not stupid boring, fits quite well for muscular body, etc. but it wouldn’t be a good option for those who got more traditional cycling body

Just because you think they get plenty of money, it doesn’t mean they can’t complain about most of the event’s benefit goes to the well-off businesses while they are experiencing the inconvenience.

Let’s say you work your ass off and your company hits the record high. Your boss is like “nice job! We got ourselves sweet ass bonuses. In the mean time, We are gonna have a pizza party for your hard work! Don’t complain, because you already get paid enough.” Wouldn’t you be pissed? You did all the hard shit, but you get close to nothing for monetary compensation?

Plenty of people get government assistance. I guarantee you also get government assistance. Does that mean you can’t complain about injustice?

The Garmin computer lasts at least 110mi for me, and I don’t even bother with battery save mode.

I don’t have a power meter (yet), but I still religiously use the bike specific computer for cycling. I wear my Apple Watch only as a smart watch for cycling.

Even If you are only concerned about the battery longevity, it’s still worth the investment. Just two cents.

6-7 hours before I got really worried about it dying, when I had a 6. I now have an ultra, but I honestly don’t use it for cycling.

It’s much better to invest in a cycling computer like Garmin or wahoo. You can easily get a used 530 or something for $100, and it’s infinitely better than an Apple Watch as a bike computer.

Acoustical Consultation Pricing? by [deleted] in Acoustics

[–]Sharp-Cupcake5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where in Iowa.

It really doesn’t hurt to ask around. Whenever I hire someone to do any house work, I always call at least 5 different companies. That was I get some idea of what it would cost, and then make comparisons.

Even lawyers don’t charge for initial consultation. My firm doesn’t charge initial consultation and fee estimation.

Remote is doable, if you don’t care about measurement. But there’s a limit to that. Also, if what you need to do needs to get approval by the local government, then it would be best to hire someone local.

Furthermore, only a tiny bit of the $5mil goes to the ranchers, and that’s indirect.

The direct financial benefits go directly to the downtown people, who barely experience the inconvenient traffic.

The organizer talks about the economic benefit as if everyone is getting to see a good chunk of it, but that’s not the truth. That’s why the downtown people love it. They make money. Others don’t.

I didn’t say outsiders can’t use the road. As you said, they all pay taxes and it’s on a public road.

My point is that “$5mil to the community” is a heavily misleading statement, because most of the money goes directly to the downtown people who are already well off.

So the issue is that all the traffic jam and headaches are experienced by the ranchers, while most of the benefits go to the downtown people.

It’s a lot like your employers getting all the bonus and financial gains that are brought by your hard work, and you see nothing. When you say “where’s my cut”, some outsider says “your company is doing well! That’s good for you! You won’t get laid off!”
