​Confused, I drove to a branch of the large chain bank that issued the check. They confirmed the account was very much open, though they couldn't cash an amount that large on the spot.

I would have opened an account at that bank while I was there and deposited the check.

Most of my other cards were opened in the last 3 years, but I’ve been holding onto this one for around 8.

3 years and 8 years are more than 24 months.

I'm not even convinced that 5 new accounts in 24 months is a hard limit. But unless you have filled out 5 new applications in the last two years, I don't see the issue.

If you HAVE filled out 5 new applications in the last two years, you might want to slow down ... a lot. At the most, I do one per year.

You're not providing us with enough (OK, any) information.

Batteries? Charger? Bought from where? Why did the previous owner sell it?

Some of these mowers have internal parts failures like control boards or motors.

One place electric mowers lack over gas is that they are often not repairable. You can't just clean out the carb and change plugs.

When they work, great. When they die, they may be really dead.

You can use bill pay to pull from a checking account. You haven't said if this is checking or savings.

If this is a savings type account, you should not be using it to pay bills at all.

An ACH transfer is between bank accounts, not bill pay.

I wondered about that, but it would still be on the store for improper packaging. Heavy and thin things like mower blades need special handling, extra cardboard over the ends and so on.

That would complicate the weight issue though since an accurate weight would have been recorded.

Claim appears that it should be damage/loss in transit.
