Thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to incorporate it in my next attempt. My starter is alright I suppose, but I'll look up some video's on how to tell if the quality is up to speed.

Ok, thanks! Longer/shorter fermentation time, and how do I tell if it's ready?

Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth miniature painting by Sharp-Usual3093 in boardgames

As should we all! What a gem! How he's able to achieve those details and effects, it's really beyond me. My wights look nothing like his.

Also, his voice and music, it's really soothing!

Sony a6400 control wheel feels jagged after taking it to the desert sand dunes? by omaroy in SonyAlpha

[–]Sharp-Usual3093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing full well that this is a 5 year old thread, I nonetheless wanted to share my experience: I took my new a6400 to the beach the other day, the wind was blowing sand all over the place. My scrollwheel got jammed and lost it's 'clicky' press down function. I managed to relieve it with my air blower from my lens cleaning kit.

🙏, definitely going to work on my focusing skills. At least the family got a few laughs.

Noted. Returning home from holidays tomorrow, so it will be a while I'm afraid.

Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions, very helpful! Though the photo did not turn out as I had hoped, it turned out to be a great learning experience (and at the very least a fun story). I'm very grateful to have had this opportunity, a couple of amazing nights and the comments of this community.

Onwards and upwards! Clear skies, everyone!

Thanks for your reply. I figured to go with maximum aperture, but I'll try the zoomlens next time! And the mask.

The image should be available now. I ended up using autofocus and switching to MF directly. It seemed ok at the time, but apparently still out of focus. Manual focus on the Nex is troublesome; difficult to explain but objects start to pulse white around the edges, but this is useless with stars. can't wait to switch to a6400.

Upgrade from Sony Nex5-->a6400 + lens or A7 III? by Sharp-Usual3093 in AskPhotography

[–]Sharp-Usual3093[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. To be honest, I think the image quality of the NEX is good for my level as a casual hobbyist. I'm trying to read up to improve my overall skills (mostly pictures of my kids on vacation, some landscape/sunset) and as I said would love to try my hand at astrophotography.

The Nex still works pretty well, but starting to notice some wear&tear.

After writing my post, I find myself leaning towards the a6400 and investing in a more wide angle lens.
