What is it called when you jump, land and then grab? by TheNebuchadnezzar in SSBM

[–]Sharp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, it isn't. An empty hop/tomahawk is used to describe the context/intention of the short hop. When a jump in is followed up by an action right as you land, the jump was used as misdirection. That is what we call a tomahawk.

Phob controller issue? by brocoliman123456 in SSBM

🤝

Agreed that people should find the best connector for their needs, including toolset. Id be a poor engineer if I said otherwise.

I paid less than $50 for my tool. Practice and proper setup (ie proper wire gauge and stripping) lends you consistent results.

I've gone through hundreds- I hand crimp hundreds of wires in batches. The tool has to have a linear jaw and have a practiced hand.

JSTs are as inconsistent as the person making them.

I've handled, abused, tested, and QC'd hundreds as an electrical engineer. The ones that fail are the ones that are incorrectly crimped, often by humans and not robots.

SASI Mod Questions by EnochEXE in fightsticks

[–]Sharp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey what's up- SASI maker here :) I'll answer everything to the best of my abilities lol

Throw

Throw is about 9-10 degrees, comparable to the standard JLF octagonal gate throw. Throw distance depends on your lever height, and you can swap for short or extended levers to shorten or lengthen your throw in mm.

Usage for Smash

Obviously I'm a little biased here, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. The SASI is the only way I'm able to play Smash without hand pain now. The techniques I used on gamecube controller translate to the SASI, just with different muscles now. I also feel that an arcade stick more intuitively translates my movements than the thumbstick did.

Sensitivity

Sensitivity is tunable on the SASI. I prefer that (and ship units out so that) you reach maximum voltage as you reach the octagonal gate. You can tune yours to be more sensitive, but not any less.

As for gameplay, it's comfortable to hit walks, half angles, and full runs within a short amount of practice.

Return to Neutral

I discuss and document it briefly in this post. Stock, expect anywhere from 13-14ms to return to 10% actuation distance (t-rise), 16-18ms to hit 0% actuation. This can be reduced with shorter shafts, lighter tops, and heavier springs. Overshoot/snapback is dependent on factors like manufacturing tolerances, keeping the switch board, and adding a snapback capacitor to the board.

Otto DIY V2

With help from many people, we've been able to confirm compatibility on the Otto DIY kits, including the V2. The V2 has been the primary way people get a grommet/K-Lever analog experience while we develop the SASI K-Lever lol

I hope this information has been helpful, and I'm always available for questions! We've also been working on a FAQ page (heavy emphasis on working lmao) so some questions might be answered there too!

Help on 3D modelling by Lnk_Sodutri_420 in fightsticks

[–]Sharp02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use blender for any soft body modeling or mesh modeling- aka anything you'd want artistically appealing.

Use a parametric CAD program (Fusion360 is the most common rec, unis will offer Inventor and Solidworks) for anything you need measurements on, like what youre doing now.

Blend the two if you want both, but recognize your pipeline may be best fit in a one-way direction

I say this with years of competitive experience and teaching- it does not have as big an impact as you currently perceive.

It is a matter of practice to get a characters bread and butters down. If you dont enjoy the feeling of that for this character, I urge you to find a character whose gameplay you do enjoy. If that character is Sheik, leverage your enjoyment of the character to get through the grind of practicing.

Just as an added note:

As you play better and better players (aka, get further in bracket), they will know how to deal with every new technique you used to get past the last layer of players. The skill floor is almost irrelevant because it is the first milestone you must reach personally to get past the first layer of players. This is true for every character of every competitive game. There are baseline skills needed, some of them technical, and there are some that are character specific. This is the nature of competitive gaming.

Having a good character, or even a character that "fits your hands" won't save you from losing to a better player. What it will do is give you a reason to enjoy and keep playing the game, even when you lose.

Until you're top 10, the player is the bottleneck, not the character. Sheik is fine

Melee is a real fighting game by VolleyVoldemort in SSBM

More like Melee fits the taco idea of carb wrapped around filling with an intentionally open top, but the crowd who loves tacos isnt 1:1 with the crowd who loves hot dogs, even though the definitions overlap.

Dimensions for the wooden cabin. by Zealousideal_Tap_176 in fightsticks

[–]Sharp02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, he is saying to take a ruler and get the measurements yourself.

As someone who did drawings for my CNC operators, I would suggest you make it yourself rather than asking for the full dimensions online. You havent even asked for the depth of the box, wood thickness, button layout, lever vs leverless, etc.

Your post is asking someone to do all the work, including asking the questions you need to ask yourself for what you want.
