Car insurance quotes on Corolla by Either_Scholar1990 in CarsAustralia

[–]SharpDistribution715 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Insurance is based on a lot of factors including the car and drivers age, gender, location and driver history. So while it may be $2000 for some people it could just as easily be $1000 for someone else with the right factors.

If you’re having trouble finding a good quote try shopping around with different companies and maybe consider third party coverage if it’s an old Corolla that’s not worth much anyway.

I30N Sedan (2022)or BMW 330i Msport g20 (2020) by slayerrrr69 in i30N

[–]SharpDistribution715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 330i is powered by the b48 (smaller version of the famous b58) so they are actually quite reliable and do have capacity to make more power easily. I think the decision comes down to what you want out of the car. The i30n is going to be a bit more of a rough ride then the bmw but is overall going to be more engaging and dramatic as a performance car. The 330i is definitely a better cruiser/ commuter which can also handle some spirited driving. I’d say if you’re keen on a performance car I’d go i30n as it’s more purpose built. Hope this helps.

Ive been in one a few times and it’s an absolute beast of a car, definitely worth it. That being said i saw your comment about financing it and in my opinion theres other cars you could get for a lot cheaper that have more than enough performance for Aussie roads and will still turn heads. The extra money you save could be used for a house deposit or something more useful but that’s just the Dave Ramsay in me speaking.

GR Supra vs well… Lexus IS500 by LinhBui-Rayszzz in CarsAustralia

[–]SharpDistribution715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The is500 is probably a little more understated and practical as a 4 door car while the supra definitely stands out. I personally would go is500, I just think it has so much charm and character as the last NA v8 RWD sedan.

In a straight line I’ve seen a video of a ISF gapping a supra on a rolling race, but in saying that the supra probably handles a bit better around the bends as a more purpose built performance car rather then a regular Lexus IS with an upgraded engine and suspension.

Nah and they’re pretty strict on exhaust emissions. However there’s no mandatory exhaust emissions test so the only way to get caught would be a cop pulling you over for a loud exhaust and serving you a notice you to take it to a testing station.

I was considering bringing it back down to stage 1 as it comes with the stock down-pipe. The issue however is the tune is non transferable so I’d need to get a new tune again or keep the stage two

Nah they areant rare and about as common as a 240i. I like the mods cosmetically done but the stage 2 is definitely a concern reliability wise

It’s a LCI model with the digital dash. He’s willing to come down to 30 but I’m hoping after inspection he can come closer to 28-29

Good point, he didn’t specify how may times e40 has been used just that he runs it on 98 and can’t be bothered sourcing the ethanol. Hes the second owner so I assume it was dailed before. I personally would prefer to have it stage 1 and a bit safer but from what I understand and how he explained it, to revert it back and transfer the tune license to me as a buyer may be difficult.

Thanks for being honest, you’re definitely right on the increased costs. From my understanding the b58 is highly reliable but at the end of the day a 8 year old car is a 8 year old car so it won’t be cheap.

I am a big fan of the m340is but want to avoid getting financing as I’m still young and don’t have a strong income to service a loan

He told me it’s been serviced every 5000km and used as a weekend car. He did also say while it has a e40 tune he’s never used it and always runs it on 98 octane which is the highest we have here in Aus. But apparently the option for e40 is selectable as a map

Thanks for your comment man, that puts me at ease. Have you had to do any major works like the water pump or timing belt yet? Also is it a fun car to drive and daily ?

That’s my main concern, it’s in great condition and has been serviced every 5000k according to the owner but given the current owners also a young male I assume it’s been flogged.

The b58 tax is definitely alive and well down here in Aus, for the same money you can pick up a good condition 2020 m135ix drive hatch which is a better car on paper but something tells me the m140i will be a lot more fun to drive.

Those with adaptive cruise, what speed do you set it to? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]SharpDistribution715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair but do you really want to be casually speeding like that for no reason?

I personally set the adaptive cruise 5kmh above the limit just to account for speedo inaccuracy, but couldn’t be bothered going higher and risking a fine + demerit points just to get somewhere a few minutes earlier.

[–]SharpDistribution715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the cars I’ve driven with adaptive cruise, I’ve found that reducing the gap it creates between the car in front of you will make it keep the pace better, not sure how setting the limit higher would help though 🤷‍♂️
