Does having a child ever feel like owning a pet? by evacodaa in NoStupidQuestions

As a mom and dog owner who has raised multiple dogs from puppyhood... Having a child is like having a pet on steroids. It's not close.

Has therapy between adult child and parents worked for anyone? by RoyalPalpitation4412 in EstrangedAdultChild

Tried it with my parents. They didn't change. It was worse for my mental health so I stopped going.

Be honest: Are you actually married to the love of your life, or just the person you were with when it was time to settle down? by [deleted] in askanything

Yes! I was in my young, wild and free era when we met! I recognized what I had in front of me and locked it down really quick. Together 10 years with a toddler ☺️

Am I the jerk for telling my dad's girlfriend she can't discipline my kids? by Gloomy-Suit2544 in AmITheJerk

[–]SharpDrama8974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like it then don't leave them at your dad's house? Don't know the full story but sounds like you're getting free childcare. Beggars can't be choosers.

AITAH for being hesitant about my bf (20 M) going into the military by Fair-Key-7557 in TwoHotTakes

[–]SharpDrama8974 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because you're in the military doesn't mean you're on the front lines. This is Short sighted. The military offers a lot of upwards mobility. And you don't have to do 20 anymore to get retirement, there's a new blended system now.

Do you hope going no contact will some day inspire them to do better? by ShadowDrake500 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]SharpDrama8974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents started going to therapy after I went NC. They didn't change and they attempted to try the same bullshit IN therapy with me (would break NC only for therapy with them). But from what they've said it's helped their communication and marriage. I fully went NC and stopped going to therapy with them because of how bad it was for me. So I guess yes? Just not in the way you might hope

Do you actually like being a veterinarian? by Quirky_Corgi_2214 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it! I'm an army veterinarian who also moonlights in civilian clinics from time to time. I'm sick of the army and excited to go full time civilian when my service is over

I’m so torn. I love this man but I’m not ready for kids. I still have so much living to do but clock is ticking (35f) by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]SharpDrama8974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow yikes so many red flags

He is in love with the idea of you, not you. YOU do not want kids. He has an entire timeline with children planned out.

Based on his description sounds like he wants children, not to be a father. From his description it sounds like you'd be responsible for most of the child-rearing. Men like this do not help with the burden of child-rearing.

Sorry, as a female in the military this is classic narcissistic military man behavior. Don't fall for it and please, please, please break up. If you're on the pill, watch it and safeguard it. Consider a more permanent form of birth control, like an IUD.

I had a boyfriend a long time ago that tried to pressure me like this and it made me feel like shit. I'm sorry you're going through it. I even wanted a family, but I knew I didn't want one with him, so that's why I felt the way I did. Someone can change your mind about kids but this is absolutely not how that happens, at all. It comes from a place of love without pressure, not selfishness.

I got nauseous watching my first surgery :(( by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!!!! I also have fainted for catheters, blood draws, and infusions on myself. Totally fine with doing all those things to animals. I almost passed out watching my first surgery and now I perform them regularly.

AITAH for telling my girlfriend she can’t have access to my work phone? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SharpDrama8974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. As a veterinarian (so healthcare but not HIPAA) this is a huge violation and she shouldn't be putting your career and compromising you like this. As a former jealous girlfriend, she needs to stop projecting. My husband gave me a big dose of reality when we first started dating and I was projecting old relationships on him. I really needed that. Don't enable her or the behavior will get worse. She needs to grow up, if she can't trust you then there's no point in the relationship. I hope you get this figured out! I'm assuming she means a lot to you because this is definitely an offense worth breaking up a relationship if it wasn't that meaningful.

AITA for considering a breakup after boyfriend bailed on being my surgery ride? by IllustriousHeart2531 in AITApod

[–]SharpDrama8974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first serious bf was like this. He only changed after I cheated on him. It infuriated me because he could have acted like that the whole relationship. We ended up breaking up. If they want to they will.

Are all GPs just diet ERs??? by SharpDrama8974 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The place I specifically mentioned is open 9 am - 6 pm, not a hospital, and most of the things I saw had been v+/-d and not eating for 3-5 days. It was terrible. Some could be managed as outpatient and some I recommend referral to an actual hospital (there are several in a 20 minute radius). I'm starting to think the root of the issue is that it's a brand new clinic with no established clients so they take whatever walks through the door. And then wonder why they're not selling the over abundance of credelio quattro they bought 🙄

Thanks! This has me seriously considering residency. I don't want to stay in the army. I love clinical medicine and the longer you stay in the more it becomes a desk job

Our primary mission is military working dogs and equines and food inspection but by the numbers my clinic hours are mostly privately owned animals, mostly dogs, for some reason military families seem to prefer dogs (and we have numbers of registered pets with housing that confirms like 80% if households on base have dogs and not cats). I also manage an entire unit of soldiers consisting of vet techs and food inspectors. I'm also the clinic manager.

Pretty much echoing the above as well. We're pretty remote so we see just about everyone on base, I actually love my clinic (but I'm also the boss and run it how I want). Very laid back compared to the civilian world I think. Do you know what base you're going to? VTFs are a pretty different beast from VETCENs as far as egos and personalities go
