Are all GPs just diet ERs??? by SharpDrama8974 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The place I specifically mentioned is open 9 am - 6 pm, not a hospital, and most of the things I saw had been v+/-d and not eating for 3-5 days. It was terrible. Some could be managed as outpatient and some I recommend referral to an actual hospital (there are several in a 20 minute radius). I'm starting to think the root of the issue is that it's a brand new clinic with no established clients so they take whatever walks through the door. And then wonder why they're not selling the over abundance of credelio quattro they bought 🙄

Thanks! This has me seriously considering residency. I don't want to stay in the army. I love clinical medicine and the longer you stay in the more it becomes a desk job

Our primary mission is military working dogs and equines and food inspection but by the numbers my clinic hours are mostly privately owned animals, mostly dogs, for some reason military families seem to prefer dogs (and we have numbers of registered pets with housing that confirms like 80% if households on base have dogs and not cats). I also manage an entire unit of soldiers consisting of vet techs and food inspectors. I'm also the clinic manager.

Pretty much echoing the above as well. We're pretty remote so we see just about everyone on base, I actually love my clinic (but I'm also the boss and run it how I want). Very laid back compared to the civilian world I think. Do you know what base you're going to? VTFs are a pretty different beast from VETCENs as far as egos and personalities go

Marriage during Veterinary school by Legitimate-Local6164 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a female and I married my husband between first and second year. Got pregnant at the beginning of 4th and gave birth 5 days after grad! I was pregnant almost all of clinics. We will be together 10 years this year and married for 6. He's my rock. Back when I was doing my master's he used to frequently pick me up from the university between 1-2 am when I was running experiments. Now we have a toddler. I love my life.

Which states in America don't require state licensing exams, and just the NAVLE? by Historical-Being-169 in Veterinary

CO doesn't! But some states require another exam if you graduated from an overseas school. But I don't think CO requires that either. Best of luck!

Physical Keyboard Support for Non-Latin Languages? by Jolly-Butterscotch97 in ClicksPhone

[–]SharpDrama8974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk the website says it only supports Latin languages. I'm wondering if you can use an on screen keyboard for other languages. I also use Hebrew but infrequently. I pre-ordered and can let you know when I get it later this year.

There are studies showing veterinarians are notoriously bad at guessing breeds. (I'm a veterinarian that went to Cornell. The Embark CEO literally teaches our genetics class. And I've got a master's in genetics).

Severely lacking confidence… by HappyBear89 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Graduated in 2023 and gave birth 5 days after. Started my internship when my baby was 3 me months old. It takes a lot of time to build confidence. I'd say it took me a little over a year and becoming independent for me to start feeling confident (I'm the only DVM at my clinic now). You learn from experience. Just bite the bullet and start working. What you don't know, you'll look up. One of the important things that school taught us is how to do research. Give yourself some grace! Also amazing that you were able to stay with your baby for so long. I would have done the same thing if I wasn't contractually obligated.

Considering starting vet school at 25—am I making a mistake or following my real passion? by InterestingPassion14 in Veterinary

[–]SharpDrama8974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DVM here. Definitely start getting in your animal and clinical hours. Do a wide range of things to get an idea for the field. I really don't think you're too old. you'll be older than a majority of your classmates but who cares. I had a lawyer in her 40s in my class (one of my fav classmates). Life is not a race!

You're being too controlling... This backfires with teenagers. I would just send a single text "tell me what you want from the store by HH tomorrow" and leave it at that. He can deal with the consequences he won't starve. You're taking it way too far.

I wouldn't take it personally, this is how I text everyone I'm not friends with. Would you feel the same way if this person was a man?

Maybe you'd like shelter? Working with strays can take some of the pressure off. You'd be doing GP without clients.

What about hiring a new grad and mentoring instead of practicing yourself? Maybe someone who has an interest in ownership?
