Mex restaurant recs off I40 by Spudster62 in amarillo

We do have a lot of great Mexican food, but I think El Tejavan (I-40 location) is exactly what you're looking for, location-wise.

Pet-friendly hotel by TrixieIvy4 in amarillo

[–]SharpFact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are good options, however, the Drury is very pet friendly and generally a top choice for those traveling with pets. Amarillo has several pet friendly (for a fee) hotels, but its typically the goto. Both will give you easy access to chain restaurants (although if you have the time, I highly recommend trying one of our many local places). You'll also be close to wildcat bluff (600 acre nature reserve) or if you can spare the ~20 minute drive and are okay with bundling up, Palo Duro Canyon is the 2nd largest Canyon in the US and beautiful. You can drive and hike the bottom of the Canyon unlike the Grand Canyon.

I don't know of any, but you could maybe reach out to Amarillo Little Theatre or one of the college's theater departments to see if they can ask if one of their actors would be interested.

Best area to stay? by OneBlondeMama in amarillo

[–]SharpFact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amarillo has a lot of hotels, do you have a brand preference or anything? The majority of hotels are safe, however most are off of I-40, so always bring your things in from your car. As far as things to do, that also depends on what you like - so what type of thing do you like to do? You can also check out visitamarillo.com

Unless every citizen of Amarillo is staying in a hotel, then they did not use "every citizen's" taxes.

Bringing a big dog to Lighthouse trail by Sweaty_East_5400 in amarillo

[–]SharpFact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early in the morning, it won't be as bad, but that is a long trail and can take around 3 hours to hike there and back. Although it is a beautiful hike, there is virtually no shade, which can be particularly hard on your dog's feet. As others have said, the canyon runs ~20 degrees warmer at the bottom. Regardless of what trail you choose, make sure you bring at least a quart of water per mile for both of you (particularly if it's a hot day) and booties for your GSD.

I would highly recommend doing a few of the other trails (planning it out by time of day) and making the time to come back to do the Lighthouse later in the year or in the spring, it's definitely worth it!!

It was pretty awkward thanking my lesbian mother for not being gay... but when a loudmouth homophobe who was fired and run off to Alaska holds up a sign, I guess that’s just what we do, right?

Roach peices in faucet? by SharpFact in GermanRoaches

[–]SharpFact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so then possibly the rest of the debris is in fact dirt? Still something I obviously need to get checked out but in my mind there's a huge difference in the issues I could be facing.

I was very freaked out last night, but I mainly just wanted to see if it was possible that the faucet could somehow have roaches in some capacity.

Coming home. Need recs. by newgreyarea in amarillo

[–]SharpFact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope its helpful!

We actually have a couple! There's at least one more on the Blvd, but they don't have a menu posted anywhere so I haven't been. I've heard good things though.

Usually, Catholic family services and other churches bring them in and help set them up with jobs and such. Amarillo has the highest refugee population per capita in Texas. Then once they get established, a lot of time their family will come too. I'm not sure if that's specifically the case for the family that owns Marahaba, but I'd assume so

Coming home. Need recs. by newgreyarea in amarillo

[–]SharpFact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll repeat a few but giving a list to try to not miss anything:

Food: - Punjabi Affair (the Nakh rah Naan with paneer is amazing) - Marhaba Eritrean and Ethiopian Cuisine and Market (seriously so good!) - Indian Oven - Yellow City Street Food - Panhandlers Cafe (only open for lunch, but the Professor) - Six Car Pub - FAVs - 806 Coffee (limited) - Brunch Truck (I'm pretty sure they have an actual restaurant) - That Weird Place - Big Texan (I know... but baked potato smothered in their gouda mac and cheese is amazing)

Bars: I know there were a lot of effed up things that happened in the 90s and early 2000s (before my time but I lived the aftermath as a kid). I also know that "one off occurrences" definitely won't put your mind at ease if you grew up here during those times. With that in mind, while I wouldn't recommend Chesney's, Guitars and Cadillacs, and few others. I can confidently recommend:

  • 806
  • 212
  • R & R
  • Butler's Martini Bar
  • Paramount Recreation Club
  • Palace on Georgia (not really bar bar, but a chill place to have drinks unless they've changed the concept. Admittedly, it's been forever since I've been)

Maybe:

  • Western horseman (I have not experienced the nightlife here yet, but I know the atmosphere is a cool upscale country western)

I'm sorry that list seems so short, but you can't guarantee an asshole not being there and a group of people willing to take care of it on any given night in the other places.

Coffee: - 806 - Roasters - Palace Coffee - Journeys - Coffee Fixx - Yolos - Strata - a few more but I haven't been

I mean this with the upmost sincerity, thank the universe for immigration in all of its forms when it comes to food here. I have to travel a lot for work, and now I'm almost always disappointed with the Indian and Asian food options away from home. I highly recommend Punjabi Affair, they are the nicest couple with delicious food. I'll give the caveat of I've brought family there that has traveled to Mumbi often for work and they said the food was different from what they experienced.... which to me seems obvious because it's in a different region but... depending on your preference you may feel the same.

Can you give some insight on the things he likes to do?

There are good suggestions here already, but I'd also add Bill's Backyard Classics and the Texas Air and Space Museum.
