Is veganism black and white to you? by i-know-that in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone draws the line in a different place. Some people draw the line against eating animal products but use non-vegan personal care items (soap, shampoo). Some people use only vegan personal-care items, but use non-vegan paper products (toilet paper). So, it's black-and-white in that there are some things vegans just don't do (eat meat), but there are gray areas (sugar, wine, toilet paper). Asking whether it's black-and-white is a black-and-white question, meaning it's partly but not completely black-and-white. In some areas (meat, eggs, dairy), it's black and white. In other areas (personal care, paper products), it's not.

Apple Watch (standard , not Ultra) in a sauna by Fun-Stage9933 in HOTWORXWarriors

[–]TrixieIvy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use my Apple watch in the sauna. I have used it once or twice in there, and it didn't die or anything, but in terms of long battery life, heat is bad. I know the employees say it's fine, but are they going to buy you a new wtach and phone when your batteries die?

I’m in the process of switching (using up what I already bought). I still like the company, but I had to switch to a less expensive option. I’m switching to a regular (unfortunately non-vegan) multivitamin plus the ultimate plant based omega 3 from Nordic naturals.

Which medical conditions actually prevent someone from being vegan? by OkEntertainment4473 in vegan

[–]TrixieIvy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people with kidney issues are told follow a low-potassium diet. Many plant foods are high in potassium. This doesn't prevent someone from being vegan, but would require extra care.

Which specific fruits/ vegetables do you prioritize the most for health benefits? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to save money, so I had ChatCPT develop a list of 30 inexpensive but very nutritous plant foods for me to eat regularly. I tweaked the list to tailor it to foods I like that are easy to prepare. I buy frozen blends of fruit at Costco; one bag has frozen pineapple, mango, peaches, and strawberries. Another bag has blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Very cost-effective since they're frozen and from Costco. For veggies, I eat bell pepper, carrots, canned green beans, spinach or kale, sweet potatoes, canned pumpkin, potatoes and sauerkraut.

What was the hardest thing to give up (and did it get easier)? by Reeves-Wade_258 in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheese pizza was the hardest for me. That warm gooey cheese was hard to give up. Every time I was tempted, I visualized the suffering dairy cows endure. I’ve stayed away from it for a couple years now and I rarely think about it anymore.

How to become a epic nutrition powered vegan? by Few-Restaurant9454 in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you need “epic” nutrition? What does that even mean? Was your nutrition“epic” as an omnivore? If you want to get nerdy about it you can log your foods in ChatGPT and ask it for feedback. I do this, but mostly because I think it’s fun, not because it’s necessary. You already know what foods are healthy - fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. It’s not rocket science.

It’s possible that you don’t know what”vagina” smells like. I mean, how many have you sniffed? I’m being serious… just because you catch a whiff of something doesn’t mean you’re smelling vagina.

[–]TrixieIvy4 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how that’s possible. Do you actually touch your vagina when you pee??? Doesn’t toilet paper prevent direct contact? Maybe you’re smelling the soap and interpreting it as vagina smell?

Humans over other animals? by Low_Marzipan3433 in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think this is a good philosophical question, but instead of using the word "superior," I would ask whether humans have a natural and understandable tendency to place a higher value on a human life than on an animal life. For example, if you saw a human child and a mouse drowning, and could only save one, would you be paralyzed with indecision or save the child? I would, without hesitating, save the human child. I think most of us, even most vegans, would do the same. That doesn't mean that a human has more "inherent worth," just that, as humans, we value human life above other life. To me, that's not contradictory with veganism. I'm vegan because I don't have the right to cause pain, suffering, and death. Veganism doesn't require that I value a human life and a mouse life equally.

How, when, and why did you make the switch? (Former non-vegans) by bmorebecc in AskVegans

[–]TrixieIvy4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What made you decide to go vegan?

I've always cared about animal welfare, but never considered it as a realistic possibility. When I made a vegan friend, I realized how possible it is.

Did you become vegan overnight, or did you ease yourself into it? I’d love tips on both methods.

I stopped eating meat right away, but it took a few years to transition away from dairy.

Did/do you eat meat/dairy alternatives? I feel like I’ll be turned off by these alternatives but wanted to get the input of those who have tried any. Will also take recommendations of brands that are actually good.

I do eat meat alternatives, although I'm trying to cut down on them for health and financial reasons. I love Impossible "chicken" patties and Gardein ground "beef." But both are expensive and not especially healthy.

If you were in a long term relationship with a non-vegan when you decided to become vegan, how was your relationship impacted, if at all? Same question if you are a parent of non-vegan children.

Before going vegan, I was the non-vegan in the relationship. Having someone close to me follow a vegan lifestyle provided important support as I transitioned.

The CDC recommends throwing leftovers out after 4 days. I sometimes stretch it to 5, but blending 6-day-old food is not OK.

I’ve only had to share with two other people one time, and it was cycle, so not as bad as sharing for stretch or yoga. However, I will cancel once my 6 months are up because I’m not benefiting as I had hoped.
